Happy New Years Eve everyone! Just wanted to clarify this... The vehicle in the video is actually a 2018 model, when Ford dropped off the car we were told it was 2019, but the 19 model year has a very subtle tweak to the front and rear fascias, including Ford removing the chrome bar that connected the rear taillights together that we didn't like and the Platinum trim was renamed to Titanium. At the time of filming, this info was not yet confirmed, we apologize for any confusion and thank you all so much for watching! See you all next year ;)

Also one small detail - the MY2019 Fusion Energi has a revised battery pack that goes from 7.6 kWh to 9 kWh which grants a ~30 miles EV range. Not a huge increase but enough to keep it competitive for the last year it would likely be on sale.

This is a ‘17-‘18, ‘19s have a slightly revised front and rear and the Energi is only available with 17” wheels now as the 18s are no longer an option. They’ve also deleted the Energi badges from the side of the car for ‘19 and they killed the Platinum trim this year. Plat was essentially a loaded Titanium plus the quilted seats and brown dash but that’s been deleted this year in favor of heavily simplifying the lineup to assist in making ordering easier. For ‘19, all Fusion Energis are Titaniums, the SE has been killed on the plug-in version as well.

This is still a good car. Good looking, comfortable, spacious, well priced and high trims are very well equipped. So what if the interior is slightly dated, the materials and tech is good. There’s still a market for this car and ford isn’t known for changing their cars every 2-3 years, they often have long lifecycles.

Yep, if you looking for a car that has a long life with you and plan to run it into the ground.. .. say 10 years of ownership?.. the older the model is the more parts you'll be able to get later on, say used from a junk yard, or aftermarket. you could have a 2019 Fusion and have a dear hit it and schmuck its door up, and you could pull the door from a 2013 non hybrid in a junk yard to repair it.. Also these hybrids drive systems are mechanically very simple and have very few to no wear parts like traditional systems... one guy here on KZbin has 400+k miles on a Gen1 volt, with no mechanical issues with the drive line, (he had one computer module to replace due to a accident with a loose tire on the freeway).. and he replaced wheel bearings a couple times in that 400+K , now finally the battery has been cycled to many times and is failing .. but he still drives around just fine in "hybrid mode" using the gas engine to make power for the electric drive.. Not to mention if you can drive these in mainly EV only mode you have way less oil changes and fuel costs... and if you use the regen brake all the time your break pads last for what seems to be FOREVER! My reason for owning a electric is reliability, nearly no fuel costs, and very low maintenance costs (oil, break pads) not for the "green save the planet " part of it because a power plant is still making the emissions unless its a green source of power.

For being as old as it is, it definitely is still competitive. I see a ton of Fusions driving around, was shocked to see Ford ditch this car (not as surprised with the others). All of his gripes here just relate to the fact its a car that stems from 2013, I guess what do you expect? I think its still a competitive car and sales show, wish it wasn’t being discontinued

We've driven a loaded 2015 Fusion Hybrid SE since we bought it new. It's been reliable, had the space for a family of 4 (including truck space without the batteries), and well put together. The only complaints we've had are the passenger seat sits too low and is not adjustable, the engine runs a bit too loudly, and we get an average 0f 37 mpg instead of the 40 that was promised. We've taken it comfortably on long trips and it's run fine. No reason to ditch it. Plus we got considerable money off the original price, no money down, and a 0% loan from Ford. We've been very happy. I regard the Fusion as a winner.

I have an 18 Hybrid Titanium White Platinum Color. I have had the car for 6 months. These are my first impressions. Love the paint color. Looks awesome when its clean. Also love the LED daytime running lights and the LED nighttime rear lights that extend the entire length of the taillight unlike most cheaper fusions. Regarding the interior, I actually like the seats that are about the same as your tester. I am 6'3" and about 200 pounds and the seat holds me in nicely. The heated steering wheel is nice and turns on automatically when its colder out. I also like the rain sensing wipers and auto bright lights when you enter a very dark area. Regarding the engine. In the warmer months when i do not have to use heat or AC i have been getting over 46 MPG which is awesome. The tank is about 12 gallons and right now fills up for under 30 bucks and last for almost 600 miles! In the winter months when the heat is on the car gets around 39-40 MPG. My major negatives about the car would be the power off the line and the trunk space. Your really need to punch it to get on the highway. That being said you get used to it. Regarding the trunk, the battery takes up a lot of space so get a smaller golf bag. Overall I am happy with my 18 Fusion Titanium and would get it again.

I have a ford 2014 Titanium Energi. It’s a great car. Your stats and comment were spot on. I kinda felt some favoritism going on with this guys video review. It’s his opinion I guess. Regarding the seating. My son and I always fall asleep and nap in these seats from time to time. I have driven for 5 hrs straight in this car no complaints. This cars just so comfy compared to our other cars. It has heated/cooled seating. It’s been great. Less repairs and more reliable then my wife’s Chevy Cruze 2015. I don’t mind the CVT transmission I’m not a speeding junky I don’t need the feeling of changing gears. It’s silky smooth. It’s quick when overtaking other cars and changing lanes because it combines instant torque using the battery with the engine. And when placing your foot full down on the pedal and using combined battery/engine mode it goes from 0-60 in no time at all.

The problem is, overwhelmingly the fusion is voted as the best looking sedan, but gets highly mixed reviews leaving it behind even nissans. In addition, the pricing just isn’t there. as a person that owns a ford fusion energi and test drove soo many hybrids from mainstream to luxury before choosing, he is severely misinformed. For one, you can definitely hold in battery mode while in hybrid if you arent lead footed. it tells you how long you can hold in hybrid. He literally had nothing good to say about this car which is ridiculous. the engine doesn't make that much noise during normal driving (sometimes i dont even notice and i hate harsh noises) which is why i bought it over the Honda Accord hybrid. The Honda couldnt make it up a hill on battery whereas the fusion could. the honda made weird noises when braking whereas the fusion doesn't. The honda felt like a tin can whereas the fusion felt much more substantial. It's also quieter. P.S. the Fusion did not replace the Taurus in 2006 the ford 500 did which then got rebadged back to taurus. He acts like he knows what he is saying but he is so misinformed. His opinions have no backing.

@Jonathan A I suppose if we look size for size then it would replace but when we look at all cars in general they are all getting bigger. size for size the Lancer would replace the old galant but the galant got bigger. The altima got bigger than the old maxima but then the maxima became larger until just a few years ago. The malibu is bigger than the old impala but then the impala was redesigned and now is bigger than the malibu. However, the Taurus is technically full size but is as cramped inside as a women with the gout tryina put on heels. It, for sure, has no place here.

I did over 1600 km for the whole trip and it cost me $98.00 for gas and that's in Canadian dollars. This really opened my eyes. The car was comfortable, quiet and drove very nicely. I spent over 7 1/2 hrs driving almost non stop, just taking a couple breaks. It felt like a big car and just cruised down the highway at 110 kmh or so. I never had a problem with the touch screen. The car looks good, mine was black. I am seriously thinking of buying one in the platinum white. When you get in the car and it says 960 km to empty, they are not kidding. It's a Hybrid, drive it like one and you will smile everytime you go pass the gas station. The only negative and it's a small one, I wish the lumbar support would go up and down also., but I did spend nearly 8 hours in the drivers seat. This got better gas mileage than my Fiesta. Yes I know, I do need a new car.lol.

I’ve been using my new Ford Fusion Energi 2019 for almost two months already and here are my thoughts. 1) car is really pleasant to drive. Soft to handle and responsive to maneuver in ev mode. 2) high end interior. Everything is made to please. The finish is great, interior has been crafted using high quality materials. There a few exceptions though such the sunroof cover and the sunglasses compartment both lacking of the same touch and feel and seemed neglected. Tech. The car is full of gadgets and the app complements the whole allowing to track your usage and adding some other stuff such remote start or feo locate your car. Some very cool safety elements are added such as adaptive cruise control and lane keep sign, blind spot mirror alert, etc. Exterior. It looks great the led lights and the latest facelift gave to the 2019 fusion the ultimate version of this -already- nice car, people turn their heads to look at the car... however it is not perfect, in heavy winter the snow and ice and because the aerodynamic design, get stuck over the trunk making very difficult to open and when you do, a bunch of snow will fall onto the trunck space, which is by the way seriously reduced because the battery. Please be sure to look at it yourself before buying is quite shocking. The charger little door is definitely the worst on this car, the lock is constantly not able to close when even a small qty of snow or ice is stuck there, I find myself continuously driving with this door open because it gets open on my way. Ford should revise the design of this. Fuel consumption. This is where all gets weird. With a 1000kms and making in average 75 km per day and 2 charges (35 to work + full charge there + 35 home + full charge + 5 km for random trips) the consumption is not even close to what I’ve expected. In total I got 937km for 47L (considering 600km on EV from the total) I am very disappointed so far, as this type of consumption does not justify at all the high investment I made and if I go a little further it gets even more expensive than a regular sedan. How is posible that when the engine kicks in the consumption goes as crazy as that? I know in Canada we have rough winters, but this is not even that, the car charges and gives an autonomy of 29km per charge in average which is decent considering the weather. But the consumption... I don’t know.

I love my 2017 Energi SE Luxury edition. In hindsight I would have just gotten the regular hybrid due to the only 20 mile full electric range but the rebates are so much better on the Energi it is a much better deal. Also, I drive this car in the way it is intended, easy and efficiently, I have no problems and plenty of power. No children so the trunk space is not an issue. Hope they will continue it for 2020 which is the latest rumor, I may trade in for another when my lease ends.

I am so glad I chose the regular hybrid over the Energi. I was considering both but went with regular hybrid for 3 reasons. 1. Trunk space. There is literally NONE whatsoever due to the bigger battery. I didn't expect this when I seen it. HUGE turn off. 2. Lack of models. Almost all Energi's are loaded models. I didn't want leather or a moonroof. The SE hybrid still comes standard with all the tech stuff. 3. Charging. The regular hybrid charges itself and I still get between 55-60mpg in city driving. If I were to go through the trouble of paying to have a charger installed on my house, I would just get a full EV. I stop at a gas station every 6 weeks for less than 5 minutes.

I bought a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium Energi a month ago. Got an incredible deal and it was a fleet vehicle with low miles. I see this is technically a 2018 but you noted the 2019 has minor changes. So I feel like I got a great car and a great deal. The regen braking is great IMO. It allows the car to run on battery about half the time so I'm content with that. I like the tech as well. Glad I made the purchase.

It’s still crazy to me that they’re canceling all sedans as here where I live I see at least 10-20 fusions a day. Focuses are really popular too, but not as much as the fusion. The fusion is more popular than every other car in its class where I live. Camry, accord, and Sonata are popular too, but nowhere near the fusion. Though we do have the best selling ford dealerships in the tristate near me.

I own a 2018 fusion plug-in. Reviewer is a little negative regarding the car. It does have two real downsides. (1) trunk space is very lacking. It cannot be sugar coated it is small. (2) engine is loud while under heavy acceleration. That being said 188 combined hp is adequate acceleration compared to most ev’s. I was asked why I purchased this over some of the competitors... here is why... (1) Ford is pretty much giving these away. So much car for the price. We leased at 2k down $320/mo 36 mos 12k a year residual of 13k. That’s cheap. (2) I like the EV even though right now gas prices are so low it hardly matters. It’s a hedge against the dreaded $4+ a gallon everyone remembers. It gets me to work and most of the way home. 12mile commute each way. (3) $4000+ tax credit (4) best looking EV car for reasonable cost. Looks like a luxury sport sedan, not a Prius. (5) it might sound silly but I try to buy American cars if they are comparable.

I don't have a Fusion of any type bit my mother is dead set on a plug in car. She drives most days but rarely more than 20 miles. I can see how the plug in Fusion could be a good choice for her. This reviewer approached this car in a stupid way. Flooring it in auto mode then complaining about the gas engine doing the work. He doesn't have the attitude that it takes to appreciate what this car offers. Sure. A Tesla has beeakneck full electric acceleration but also cost a lot more and is ultimately limited in range in a way this car is not, due to need to find a charge and time required

Hopefully the fit and finish has improved across the board. We test drove a fully loaded one a few years back with 10 miles on it. The trunk and hood were not aligned right and the interior had issues like the leather on the upper door section coming apart. At that time, the comparable Accord, Sonata and Altima was flawless during their test drives.

I loved my 2015 Fusion Energi. It was one of the very few plug-in hybrids at the time that wasn’t butt-ugly like the Prius. I went Chevy Volt in 2018, and while it isn’t as pretty as the Fusion was, it blows the Fusion out of the water in terms of features, electric range, storage capacity and safety tech. Of course, Chevy has now killed off the Volt, so in 2021 when my lease is up, I’ll probably be looking at Volvo’s plug-in hybrid options.

Good review and I agree with the summary: not the best combination of features compared to the competition with the worst being the trunk space. That being said, I recently picked up a low mile one owner used 2017 Energi Platinum as the price was incredibly good and can live with the short comings. To and from work: 15 miles - no gas consumed. Yet have enough range for the few long trips I do ~ 600 miles without stress of searching for a plugin location (EV). Originally wanted EV - but price and range for long trips still unacceptable for my use case.

As an owner of a 2019 Fusion Hybrid (the regular one, not the Energi), I am actually somewhat pleasantly surprised by this vehicle. It is not sporty at all, that's true - it handles ok, but it doesn't accelerate particularly well and the engine indeed is noisy when you floor it. However, I am surprised about the fuel economy I'm getting - in the summer I got about 49 MPG average (with about 70% highway and 30% city driving). Now in the winter it went down to a little below 46 MPG, but that's still good for a 6 year old midsize sedan design. I'm not flooring the car, but I'm also no slouch - you know, just flowing with traffic. Also, regarding the problem with the combustion engine turning on too often: if you switch the car into eco mode, the first half or so of the gas pedal lets you control only the electric motor (unless the battery has no juice). That way you can easily drive significant distances in electric mode only. On my 20 mile commute, I usually manage to get 7 - 10 EV miles - and I only have the regular Hybrid, with the smaller battery. So, all in all, the Fusion Hybrid still seems to be a decent choice from a fuel economy perspective. In other regards, it certainly is dated. However, I got a huge discount from the dealer on my Hybrid, probably because I bought it shortly after Ford announced it will discontinue its sedans and so I "offered" the dealer to take this slow selling sedan off his lot and trade it in for my comparably fast selling SUV. ;)

I expect others will point out more of your glaring mistakes so I won’t make a list. However, your misstatements about the electric range should embarrass you. It’s 26 miles in the 2019 model. About the only thing you nailed is that the trunk capacity is dismal for a family sedan - although it works for a couple - and that Ford puts a lot of incentives on the Fusion Energi - so they can sell trucks in California. With those Ford incentives and, dealer discounts-along with the Federal tax credit-you can’t afford to ignore this car. The Clarity specs seem attractive but compare price with no incentives from Honda and then drive both cars back to backYhe Fusion will expose The Clarity for what it is - you want to talk about a raspy engine and poor transition between gas and electric? Particularly if this video is an indication of your driving style - foot to the floor, then release - of course you’ll notice the engine kick in with the Fusion, but you'll still have a better ride. Drive the Energi like you own it instead of like you rented it and you’ll be fine.
