I remember a PvT of Myungsik vs Maru where Myungsik went phoenixes and dominated Maru the entire game. Maru lost most of his drops with no success but made zero vikings and only bio. By the end of the game some widowmines landed on all the phoenixes and maru just won the game.

The fact that Maru dominates this stupidly hard shows that most of the protoss or zerg pro these days in Korea are just lazy to experiment with new styles of plays. They automatically go into midgame 2 base mode every freaking game. What about one base timing? 4 gates? fake expansion into timing push? carrier rush? stargate & battery rush? how about being more active on the map? or making 3 oracles to kill stim upgrade? or making tons of collosus like artosis suggested? Except for classic & dark, the other pro these days, they probably think it's comfy enough for them on the ladder and thus too lazy to find novel ways of play. Tbh, trap getting in here was just a dumb luck because Ty got pissed of on the technical difficulty game 1 and it's a shame Ty never regained the composure which ultimately costed him the series. This semi final would have been much more entertaining if Ty got in. One sided series sucks.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet that it was a confidence thing. He played SO well against TY and Innovation, but didn't even put up a fight against Maru. Maru helped him prepare for those great wins, and I think that lead to him believe that he could not win against Maru. Trap was defeated before the game even started, he seemed like he was satisfied with his run and didn't mind losing to Maru.

@@Sapreme Agree with those points but i think another big factor is that not every player is a great strategy-guy and maybe their team do the strats for them, so trap being in the same team as maru have grat strats-people, but for the intra-team-duel the stratpeople probably dont want to help either of them to much which cause trap having to come up with builds on his own, which he might not be used to anymore and some other small factors like that. Like every MMA-fighter got a coach that will watch tape on the opponent and detect flaws and tell his fighter, but if its two people from the same gym they wont reveal the flaws obviously.

@@vir042 Yeah, totally. And there is also the issue of having proper practice partners too. Maru could have practiced with sOs, but there isn't a terran a similar skill for Trap to practice with. Also tying in to the MMA example, mentality is a HUGE factor in competition. When GSP fought Matt Hughes for the first time, he could not even look at him in the eye because he was in awe of getting to fight somebody he looked up to. GSP ended up submitting to an armbar before pressure was applied, with seconds left in the round. In the rematch, GSP came back in confidant, looked him in eyes, and won pretty convincingly.
