I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that... it did irk me a bit, ya. But, let's be honest- the only thing they are "sort of" copying is the aesthetics and basic layout. I say sort of because the back color isn't the same as my guitar (my ocean turquoise/scraped binding model has a black back and satin black neck). The woods are all different, there's no locking tuners/graduated posts (there's even a string tree on the copy).. no nickel pickup covers and who knows what the pickups are, and the bridge is different, and it's not mahogany and... ok so it's a very different guitar.
@mpexus6 жыл бұрын
The target buyer of these guitars are Pete Thorn Fans but they cant afford the real deal. To them its not important that it not exactly the same specs as long as it look's similar its ok enough. Maybe its time Suhr to come up (again) with a cheaper version of their guitars or at least on the Signature Models. Musicman seems to be very successful with their Sterling line, especially on the Petrucci Models. Are they the same thing? Sure not but they are look wise 99% identical and its enough for majority of people that cant afford the 3k ones. Instead of Musicman "loosing" revenue for third parties builders, they have their own cheaper versions that are Artist approved.

i have Suhr classic pro,saved my pennies and bought it used, would love a PT signature... just outta my price range...I won't be buying a Harley Benton instead....something a little wrong with this in my opinion. Lets call a spade a spade, an artist designed and released a sig model and a company "copied" it, made it cheap and are making money on their shoulders. EVEN CHRIS LOOKS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS.
@IgnoresTrolls6 жыл бұрын
They say several times what the pickups are and it does have locking tuners. If you make 3 different superstrats and 2 of them are in multiple colours you're going to hit on someone's sig aesthetically.

That is so true. In the beginning what were there? Strats, Les Pauls, and Teles. Everything today is just copies of those anyway. It reminds me when the early guitar processors came out in the mid-'80s. The Scholz Rockman stuff (with I still have two Sustainors and still use the Chorus/Delay in my current rig because it's the best chorus ever conceived) comes to mind. All of the advertising was: "Sounds just like a cranked Marshall amp." But at Marshall prices, not every kid guitar player could afford a $3000 Marshall stack. My point is, all of the early (and now into the modern ones) guitar processors are by and large based on either something Marshall or Mesa Boogie.

Come on, the strategy is plain to see: they started with very cheap models, then they improved little by little until they could get to their tele and LP models that are decent. Their next move is to copy higher end guitars. They're moving their way up steadily and slowly but surly (no pun intended LOL). They're building their name until their reputation will allow them to enter the higher end market. Soon they will be competing with Chapman, PRS SE, Epiphone, Fender mex... In the mean time, they'll be every where on the market from super cheap to mid range price point. This strategy is well known and has been rolled out successfuly before. Anyone remembers how Ibanez started? I think they will have to face a critical point when they will have to come up with models of their own. This will be the big test when everybody will be expecting something from them. Maybe they will get their own signatures HB people, if you read this, i personnaly encourage you to keep on your way. Nothing wrong can come out of it. I wish you the best. I have been very lucky in acquiring HB gear (a mini looper) and I'm seriously considering getting a HB guitar. Who knows!?

Terrible analogy. Big difference Between one company taking liberties with another companies design and what HB did with this. Every company, Fender included, has borrowed from body shapes from other companies. This is a blatant rip off of an artists signature which in my opinion has some very unique and immediately distinguishable features. They may have well just put his picture on the guitar.

Yeah i got a First Act neck i put on my fender american deluxe(can't adjust the neck, trush rod nut stripped) and it has a thick slab of rosewood on there too, like way thicker than I'd expect, i thought itd cost more money to layer it on that thick, but wow what a nice neck, so they can be had for cheap too... it fit tighter in the fender pocket aswell resulting in more contact so its a lot resononate/sustainey! But now but I found a dead fret on the 18th so its a deal breaker, shame i thought I found the perfect replacement neck a cheap first act neck. Funny thing is i could sell that fender neck and buy a Harley Benton for the same amount of money, with stainless steel frets!! And probably not a wimpy little nut that strips if you dont take it out perfectly level, i stripped it by trying to take it out of the socket, not by turning it too tightly , i was really careful to go slow it was my first time, but when id try to take the allen wrench out it as getting caught for some reason so i had to twist it a little too take it out, which stripped it. This was the first time i ever adjusted a truss rod so i had no idea what to expect, but after adjusting the first act neck i put it in, what a difference! it adjusted with barely any turning, and the nut was big and thick which held the allen key nicely without fear of stripping. So i've concluding the truss rod was broken on the fender considering how many times i turned it without barely any movement on the neck. But when I took it into a shop they assured me it wasnt broke, just had to get a new nut, which they said fender sold kits for $40 to do it. Which I thought was wierd, like he didnt offer to fix it, some guitar fixing shop! Eitherway I only had the guitar for 6 months and theres already fret dents in it, crazy to think I could get one with stainless steel frets for the same coin. haha, boo Fender! boo! and people ragged on Gibson for quality issues, i never picked up a Gibson that didnt feel right in a store, perfect action with no adjustment out of the box. 3 cheers for Gibson, hip hip! hip hip ! horray! Im still going to try and fix that fender neck, give Fender another chance after a proper setup.

It's really too bad you can't get your hands on one in the USA to try before you buy. I am intrigued by the guitars, but have heard nightmare stories of guitars arriving in the USA damaged in shipping, having serious QC issues and basically, you are rolling the dice as to what kind of guitar you're getting when you order from them. The word "lemons" is being thrown around A LOT online about these guitars. I've also heard that returns are difficult from the USA, and that even when the guitars are replaced, the ones that are replacing the first guitar, are no better than the first. Thoughts/comments? Something else that's interesting is that Ibanez just rolled out their AZ line, some of which are also made in Indonesia, for about 4 times the price. They are very nice guitars. I'd love to get my hands on both to see how different they are.

Well, I see there is a legitimate trend to find the minimum imperfection on a Guitar, and really mostlikely all guitars have their imperfections, does not matter how expensive it is..... the thing I do not understand is why people think they have to spend over $1500 to find a great guitar, a good guitar is a simple thing, big part of the tone are coming from the pickups, great looks is awesome, but what it is ridiculous is people saying, for $350 a HB is a great guitar, I am sure if that guitar would be under Charvel, Suhr, Ibanez name with a price of 2K most people would say is a badass guitar and will give more credit to that Guitar, most people need to spend lots of $$ to feel confident with their instrument..... and the truth is that the guitars of today's are better than the vintage guitras, Vintage guitar just sound and feel great because the wood is old and is a mature/settled instrument, but the components, presicion and parts of today are superior.

18:32 fun fact, the Toyota MR2 was not sold in France under the MR2 name but just MR. Why? Because if you say MR2 in French it just sounds like you’re saying “Shit” (Merde). And nobody wants to buy a “shit” car ;)

Google it, I don't have it. He is a pseudo celebrity so it might be difficult to talk with him. They don't make custom instruments so good luck.

Thomann could have sent a better rep. He's acting like he's hiding something. I think he should be of the attitude: "Yeah. I inhaled AND I drank the bong water too!" Harley Benton has nothing to be ashamed of by being able to produce well-made guitars the musicians can actually afford. Even though I can afford one, I will never own a Gibson Les Paul. The new ones that are selling for $5000 plus currently will never appreciate in value like the $500 ones that were produced in the late '50s and early '60s. The guitar I'm playing in my photo at left is my 1975 Ibanez Deluxe '59er I bought from the Ibanez catalogue for $262. It's now 44 years old. Is it worth a genuine 1959 Les Paul Standard? Not even close. Would I trade it for one? Not a chance. Were I given one I'd sell it immediately and buy 1000 Harley Benton's. Stock up...

Thinking of someone drinking bong water makes me want to throw up Although I do remember some kid drinking a bunch of bong water out of our gravity bong for a couple hits of pot back in high school 😖 I wonder what that guy is up to these days On the other hand, I totally agree with what you said. It seems to me like people are mad because these companies are finally figuring out how to build INCREDIBLE guitars for an incredible price..which doesn’t make sense to me. But to be honest, a lot of these Harley Benton models are still hit or miss. One thing is for sure, their pickups are worthless..but I think they’re starting to get ahold of things. I personally love charvel and suhr, but I must admit, these guitars look great.

I'd love to buy one of these guitars, but Thomann is still selling them with the shitty retaining bar, shitty nut, and shitty tuners, all of which add up to a guitar that simply doesn't stay in tune. It's a real shame that neither of you mention this in your fawning demo. I'd rather hear it how it really is. As soon as Thomann sort out these manufacturing screw-ups, I'll buy one

Just a FYI ... HB has used the "PT" name on there instruments for awhile now & i dont think is in any way to reference mr. thorn. Also .... as others have said ... guitars from other companies are ment to be admired & or even imitated .... I dont see Slash complaining daily about the THOUSANDS of texts & tweets about him using a "copy/clone" of a LP as he did for quite a few years in G&R. Or as mentioned ... why are peaple not crabbin at gibson for making a " clone " of a "copy/clone" of 1 of there guitars ?? Thats kinda a oxy moron dont you think? Anyone whom seems to be "offended" i feel more along the lines is feeling its wrong cause of there " patriotism " for there own country's produced products. Sorry, not sorry if other countries develop better producing methods of instruments then your country's has to offer. Like this & MANY other things online im reminded of the old saying ... "suck it up buttercup" too many peaple making outragous claims about something with NO MERRIT or FACTS.

It's copying the aesthetic of the guitars, just like Suhr copied the aesthetic of fender with the classic line. But John Suhr himself will tell you they are two completely different guitars. So there is no reason at all to be upset about any of this. Tom anderson guitars also look a lot like Suhrs and even more like Schecters, but again, completely different guitars in feel and sound, and everyone is fine with it.

So Thomann is not making enough money selling all other brands? Or they do that just for the sake of filling the gap in an already super crowded market? These people even seem having fun admitting they just copying other brands. Just some quick thoughts.
