People tend to forget that it was motorcycles, not cars, that originally brought Honda to America. Their 1960’s “you meet the nicest people on a Honda” ad campaign, not only did wonders for them, but for motorcycling in general. We sent Two Wheelin’ Brian Robinson to find out if that still rings true; but as usual, we found him just monkeying around.

Pretty sure the supercub was sold as the c70 passport in the US until 1983

Back in 1983 I bought a Honda CM250 Custom as my first motorcycle. It had a 250cc parallel twin motor, (same as the later Honda Rebel), and was belt drive. It only weighed 285lbs. so it was too light to ride on the freeway but man was that little bike fun to zip around town on. I miss it a lot.

Horizontal cylinder engines arent typically over 140cc, and the frame on these bikes do not leave room for a non horizontal cylinder engine.

Wish Honda would have gave the Monkey a larger analog speedometer/gauges. I don't like the digital speedometer.. and the winking Monkey on the Digital speedometer is a stupid gimmick. After you have seen it a time or two it would get old quick..

I'd love to have either one as a town hopper for fun. I'm not a motorcycle rider but these make it accessible for us non biker boys

I love the Monkey, really considering it as a 2nd run around bike but I’m struggling to think of times when I could practically use it; guess practicality is not the point which makes it desirable

I think it has practical use in a really urban area.
@MrDarkoiV

@Phil M Not really, motorcycles are quite practical if you can lane split, and you live in place where is a lot of traffic jams.

Was so close to getting the Honda super cub 125 but the stealership in NYC wants $5000 OTD on a $3600 bike you have to be mental to pay that much

Wow, astronomical prices! 3599 USD for the Super Cub, when it costs the equivalent of 1495 USD in Thailand. EDIT: Looks like I was mistaken, this 125cc version is more like 2850 USD in Thailand.

@Phil M True! But over double the price is a huge markup by any standard. By contrast, five years ago my Honda Forza 300 (also made in Thailand) was roughly 5500 USD in the US and 4500 USD in Thailand. Only about a 25% markup. EDIT: Whoops, see above, markup is actually about the same %.

@@courtneyjohnsonhaber4591 Wow, you are right! I didn't realize there were two Super Cubs, the standard one and this special C125 model, which apparently goes for the equivalent of about 2850 USD in Thailand (according to Checkraka). A much more reasonable 25% markup then. Sorry and thanks for catching that!

Wish Honda would have gave the Monkey a larger analog speedometer/gauge. I like anaolog better then a digital speedometer.. and the winking Monkey on the Digital speedometer is a stupid gimmick. After you have seen it a time or two it would get old quick.. And wish it were a bit bigger. At 6'"3 175 lbs., I'm afraid that I am to big for the Monkey

@Phil M Thanks Phil for the good info. Comfort is a major thing for me and the Monkey seat looks comfy and it looks like I would be able to scoot back a bit. The Grom is out (not comfy enough).. The Super Cub is a nice bike but you have to sit on the seat in that one position. Wish they would have given the Cub a longer Monkey style seat so you can customize you seat position. Oh, right now I have a Zuma 50cc which is getting old, but has been a good bike. I like the one speed (no shifting required) on the Zuma. But if I get the Monkey looks like I will have get used to shifting.
