We bought this exact car mid May. Our driving is done at 50-55 mph. We have averaged 70.1 mpg over 2000 miles of driving. We are astounded at the fit, finish , and incredible fuel economy.

I own a 2017 Ioniq Hybred Limited and love it. I am averaging over 2000 miles per month driving primarily on I95 between Broward and Palm Beach county. I am a left lane driver and push the speed to whatever traffic allows. I still get over 45mpg even with this hard driving and get more if I am driving around town. The car is comfortable and handles well. I am most impressed with the cargo capacity behind the second row. I test drove the Prius but was turned off by its looks whereas the Ioniq looks and drives like a normal car. If getting high milage in a comfortable, competent small car is your goal then the Ioniq deserves a look.

We purchased an Ioniq hybrid (not plug-in) in September 2018, brand new 68 plate. Overall, it is a lovely car and very comfortable to drive. However, within a few months of owning the car, we started to experience intermittent engine problems. Whilst driving and without warning, the engine orange light would come on (static) as well as the HEV triangle - "check hybrid system". After this happening 4-5 times, and taking it into the shop on these occasions when possible, the engineers finally found out there was a problem with the two hybrid engines 'talking' to each other. This was remedied in August 2019 and the car had been running smoothly. That was until yesterday, when I turned the car on and the engine orange light came on again (static) with no explanation as to why (no warning signs telling me what to do appeared). I called Hyundai who said breakdown assistance would take a look. I managed to drive it the short distance to my home, in which time the car was lurching as if an invisible force was putting on the brakes gently (not a 'bunny-hop' lurch). The AA man ran diagnostics and discovered there were two unknown faults (codes 047200 and 047100). He didn't know what that meant so we've taken it into the shop again where it's being assessed today to find out what the problem is. All of the usual things (oil, water, radiator) has been checked. In addition to the engine problems, we also have found on 2-3 occasions (very infrequently) that the speakers will suddenly stop working. This happens when we turn the car on - sound from media, radio and car SatNav doesn't work, although the onscreen system seems fine. If we leave the car for a couple of hours, and start it up again, the sound will reappear. Anyone else had this difficulty? I am very disappointed by this. This was our first time buying a new car, and we've had more problems with it than the other 3 second-hand cars we've owned put together. Has anyone else experienced these type of engine difficulties? Has anyone else had those fault codes listed above?

I own a 2019 Ioniq Blue model and got 70mpg on a 160mile trip. 25 dollar fillups will get you 650-700 total range miles which is the best bang for the buck you can get as far as MPG. Love the car, only thing I recommend for the newer models is an improved suspension, because this thing feels everything on the road, but beyond that, you cannot go wrong at this price range. Also, Hyundai offers a LIFETIME warranty on the hybrid battery, which is incredible. If youre looking for a hybrid sedan this is the one to give your attention to.

We've had ours for a year now and no issues or regrets. Drives great, we live in New England, MA and yes it gets less mileage during the winter, but still average around 48-50 mpg during winter. Normally we get about 58-60, but my wife is a zippy driver, so its not optimal. Still car is great all around.

I bought a 2019 Ioniq Hybrid SEL in August and have not been disappointed! Just had my first 7500 mile service at the dealership which extends the power train warranty another 100K miles. Fuel efficiency was my #1 consideration, and the battery warranty sealed the deal. It's a fun car to drive, too. The black/gray interior was my preference and the silver color makes for a good looking car. The back seat is adequate, but it's just me and my husband up front. The hatchback storage area accommodates plenty for travel. The Ioniq Hybrid offered everything I was looking for with the right price tag. I am 100% satisfied and would buy this car again!

I have had zero trouble with my Ioniq since purchasing it in August 2019. I travel with work, and I currently have a little more than $170,000 miles on it. Gas mileage remains just as good as the day I bought it.

I bought a non-plug in 2019 SEL, and am generally satisfied with it. The best reported avg MPG is achieved under 65mph, the best range is 55-62 mpg more or less. Over 70 and specially between 70 and 80, the mileage does plummet to low 50s to high 40s. I found the switch between the electric motor and gas engine not as smooth as expected, since it is a 6 speed automatic and not a CVT. The ride is a bit noisy, and the suspension does not feel as solid as other weight class equivalent compact car. Acceleration is somewhat anemic, if you really need to get out of the way and get up and go, you need to punch it hard. Sometimes I drive in "sport mode" which gives me a tachometer and miles in miles per hour. The interior is acceptable to good, I have taken a long (400+ mile) road trip and was not uncomfortable. The sound system and electronics, collision avoidance, etc, are worth having. If you drive in cold weather, you will love the heated seats. ABS breaks work very well, the radar warning is interesting and alerting. In closing, I believe I made the right decision.

I own a 2019 SEL, already have 15k on it. No rattles or squeaks, more than adequate acceleration and passing power, great MPG. My main reason for buying the IONIQ over the competitors? LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE BATTERY!!!! Why anyone would choose another hybrid with only 100k on the battery baffles me but we do keep our vehicles as long as possible, on average 250k. I'd hate to be the hybrid owner of anything that needed a new hybrid battery out of pocket, you'd be looking at about 6k....crazy. Yeah, lifetime on the battery, nuff said.

The ioniq is sportier, better mpg, and its quicker in sport mode which makes the 139HP feel closer to 175HP when the motor gives you 200ft-lb torque instantly. Also the ioniq drive battery has a lifetime warranty. which is easily its most crucial selling point

A guy and I at work both bought ioniqs and he got the better version then this one and I got the one tested in this video. He bragged about having leather and bigger rims but admitted the cloths seats felt and looked better, and my car rides smoother due to the rims being smaller and not having more tire to absorb the impacts. I drive it about 350 miles a week and a lot of on the freeway. I get 52mpg at 75mph

Automakers need to advertise suspensions better. My grandmother bought a Camry SE not knowing it had sport-suspension. She doesn't like the way it rides, and barley ever drives it. My dad has a 2017 Sonata, and it rides nice, unlike the stiffend up 2018 and up Sonatas. I don't get why automakers are putting stiff suspensions on commuter cars, it just doesn't work.

(joke) :) indeed you're wright bro..many years ago the most cars had soft ,comortable suspensions and that was way better than now..Nowaday's..the people are getting older..the backs are not good anymore and instead more soft and comfortable suspensions the make them all much stiffer..it's no present to drive on the bad (broken) roads of today..unbelievable..and..the Ioniq with 17" wheels is way too stiff..it's not pleasant to drive that car.. :(

Im in Britain, the industry and buyers are obsessed with big alloys/low profile tyres. Far too many cars have this nowadays, especially small low powered hatchbacks where they try to make them look sporty. Roads over here are terrible because the councils don’t spend money repairing them. I would rather have smaller alloys for comfort. I know some cars look better depending on the size of the wheels but its hard to find a balance.

My 2019 IONIC blue gets between 65 and 70mph without even trying. 10 gallons of gas can get me close to 700 miles before I have to refill. I used to have to fill up my last car Ford Focus a couple times a week. But this car I’m filling up once every 2 1/2 weeks. It’s literally a free car.

I bought mine in 2018. Great car to drive. Really comfortable, even for those sitting behind me. I'am tall 187cm. I have learned how to drive a hybrid car, trying to get the most out of the electical motor. With one full tank I managed to clock up 1144km. ( 715 miles). Some people don't like the spoiler across the rearview window, but I've found that it blocks out the headlights from the car behind me. So, i'ts not that bad.

I'll admit, I was impressed by this little car when I test drove it. And I'm not a hatchback/hybrid fan, they all look ugly. This is a bit more sensible in design. I've owned jaguar, bmw, and just bought an infiniti hybrid, but the ioniq is a nice car even by my standards. I tested this car because I drive 150 miles every day. I would totally take one over a prius any day.

Yep as far as the ioniq hybrid is concerned I prefer the 2018&2019 over all the other years the 20-22 has a bigger screen but they down graded the way the regen braking works it’s very limited when used with out the steering wheel paddles and when it is it’s either on or off cannot modulate for smooth regen with the prefacelifted ioniq the regen has the same amount of max regen braking as the facelift but for some reason unlike the facelift it preserves the smooth regen with brake pedal modulation in that respect the older ioniq is smooth as a Prius the engine clutch set up on these cars sucks I wish Hyundai would have used a set up like Toyota synergy drive as that’s soo smooth and reliable

I have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. I chose the Ioniq over the Prius because it’s a little bit cheaper and the Ioniq looks better. The front and rear of the Prius look weird to me. Also, I heard the front windshield of the Prius is on the thin side (to save weight) and prone to chipping/cracking.

Also, the Ioniq has surprisingly good hill climbing ability. Won’t zoom up the hill but don’t have to worry about making it up a steep hill (with a full passenger load). Even from a full stop, will power up the hill without any slip back. Brakes are a little grabby (works too good sometimes). Worry free braking going down a steep hill too. Will come to a full stop when you want, while going down a steep hill (my old car, literally standing on the brakes and pray the brakes will eventually stop the car).

You chose the better car. I used to have a Prius before I dumped it for a BEV. Prius is an underpowered, uninspired, ugly piece of junk. It was comfortable, but that's all I can say for it.

@@m.c8038 The avg mpg is around 46 miles/gal (instead of 51 mpg). But, otherwise, no problems. At almost 69k miles. Had to get new tires and hit a microwave on Hwy 5 a little over a year ago (had to replace the lower half of the front bumper area and radiators. Looks new). A few very minor dings. I had 2 break-ins the first year and had to replace side windows. Then someone scraped my rear bumper (had that fixed and repainted). Original brakes. Overall, no problems and looks nearly new.

You got well over 50 MPG! That is impressive. Usually you report lower gas mileage figures than most other reviewers. It's a good review of a well designed car. I don't like the looks very much, especially the rear, but it is way better than the hideous Prius. I think the Honda Insight looks better, but it does not get that high gas mileage.

it feels like IONIQ has more travel back and forth on the front seat track compared to the Prius why it seems the Prius as more leg room for back seats passengers.. i think 🤔 the Hyundai can better proportion the space especially if your a tall driver

I just bought a 2019 Ioniq in the Limited Edition after owning a Prius for 10 years. I don't notice any size difference in it and I am very impressed with how it drives so far. My only disappointment was that I could not get the Plug in version in Kansas. Come on Hyundai, get with it, Kansas is moving into the 21st century too. They just announced charging stations on the turnpike.

@@ShellyGunderson It's interesting, I read some comments that say they're at 200k miles with no issues so maybe it won't be an issue. I'd imagine as long as maintenance is kept up it'll be fine. I had a 2015 Kia soul base 1.6L same engine in the Ioniq hybrid but without the hybrid system and it had 267k miles. most major thing to go wrong was the exhaust manifold converter as the car ran too rich, which kia corporate covered at 255k miles to my surprise. it having a GDI engine and running too rich I don't know why it ran too rich. other than that it was solidly reliable. it had the automatic (sportmatic) transmission. I made the mistake of putting down CVT in previous comment, corrected myself to DCT.

the plug in ioniq only gets about 40 miles of all electric running before the engine kicks in. And considering the plug in has a lower mpg on fuel consumption than the plain hybrid because the larger plun in battery that adds about 400 pounds. The normal hybrid is your better bet.

Alex B depends on your driving habits. I have a cmax that only does 22 miles on the ev yet I haven't put any gas into my car for the last six months and my mpg is 200mpg! You can't do that with a regular hybrid.

@@br33zy771 lol now youre negating what you said. "Always" isnt "well it depends on your driving habits". The average person doesnt only drive 20 miles a day. Unless you want to stop at every charge station and wait 2 hours, its not convenient to wait 2 hours to travel 20 miles. And unless youre doing that you'll get better mpg with the standard (lighter) hybrid. My Ioniq has a 630 mile range on a full tank, and thats not dependent on a fully charged battery.

@@br33zy771 MPGe is not the same as MPG. The sticker that tells you that you get 88mpge is factoring in the full charge of the battery and one gallon of gasoline. Which means that great fuel economy only stands for the first gallon. Any subsequent fuel usage you get 39 mpg combined. That's not that great. In your car model. The plain hybrid version only gets slightly better mpg. But in other car models like the ioniq. The plug in gets 52 mpg vs the hybrid which gets 58 mpg. 6 miles difference X 11.4 gallons = 68.4 miles more in range than the plug in. I'll take 68 more miles in my tank than 20 just off electric. You didn't find anything cause you didn't cross reference anything.

Most if not all of the review is focused on the SEL/Limited trim which avg about 55 mpg, but the Blue trim gets you to cross over to 60 mpg, best value. Weakness - acceleration is poor, but if you care then you can use the Sports mode, the reviewer in the video said it didn't drop below 47 mpg, I haven't tried the Sports mode so I cant comment on it

This hybrid has plenty of pep and will get you into traffic quickly, you can pass other vehicles easily on long trips. I have never felt the need to put in sport mode, it has plenty of power without shifting into sport.

Ive driven both when I worked for a car dealer. The Prius was a lot more economical and more relaxed on motorways but the Ioniq has a much nicer interior and the DCT works well, plus handling on country roads was sharp. I wouldn’t buy either of them though as I prefer the character of Subaru boxer engines over the economy, so the XV (not the new Crosstrek in the UK, hideous dashboard with that massive ugly tablet touch screen) hybrid would be my choice.

I have a 2019 SEL. 75 MPH is not the maximum speed for driving in Electric Mode. I have driven at speeds up to and including 85 MPH in Electric Mode, and cruised at 80+ MPH for several seconds. Being able to go these speeds in Electric Mode -- compared to up to 45 MPH in my 2013 Prius c with 170k mile and the Ford Escape Hybrid AWD that I used to own -- is a game-changer. I consistently get 10 MPG above the EPA rating (i.e., 64 - 65 MPG) with my Ioniq. With my Prius c, which is rated at 53/46/50 (city/highway/combined), I averaged 55 MPG (e.g., 50 MPG in cold temperatures and 58 MPG in warm temperatures and achieved in the low 60s MPG a few times) on the same commute. The DCT is not good. Wish it had a CVT. I think the DCT is holding it back from getting better fuel economy -- even though Hyundai went with the DCT (and supposedly plans on going with DCT in more vehicles) for fuel economy purposes. The price increase from the Blue trim to SEL is more than justified due to the safety features alone, in my opinion. This is the first vehicle that I've owned with these safety features, and they take some getting used to -- i.e., lane departure feature tries to jerk the car into the deceleration lane to the right and brake hard when someone cuts in front of you when using smart cruise control (something to be aware of if someone is behind you) -- engineers need to tweak. The only I have is it is reluctant to go into Electric Mode. I have to "force" it on many occasions. I plan on having the dealership look into this issue. If it wasn't so reluctant, I could see me achieving 70 MPG every so often. Several hours after submitting the above posting, all warning lights came on. The malfunction indicator light (MIL) remained on even after others went away. It is currently at the dealership to get diagnosed. 7/3/2019: The technician has been in contact with Hyundai technical support working on my car all day. The service advisor thinks it will probably be Friday morning that Hyundai contacts the technician with tomorrow being a holiday.

@@stanobert3475 the only drawback of this car is that it sits quite low. Cars with a higher floor are usually easier to get in and out of. You may also want to look at the Kia Niro hybrid as it is practically the same technology with the exact same drivetrain from the same company, except it is higher and more SUV-like.

I love the fact that this will do 70 on the emotor alone. That means it can contribute a *lot* when you mash it down to get out of Dodge. I'm all about evolving hybrid systems forward. Along those lines, I hate the enslavement to the old that is the 6-speed transmission. People only like discreet gears because that's what they're used to. LAME REASONING. CVTs are always faster, everything equal. The many-geared systems you see now are basically CVTs impaired with shifting, because that's what people want. But people don't know what's really good until they've switched to it. It reminds me of how most LED bulbs are not as great as they could be because the common denominator thinks they should copy old bulbs exactly. I dunno, I guess I'm always more in favor of engineer-led design instead of driver-led or user-led. Because users don't know what's possible. They don't know when they're shooting themselves in the foot. Technology progresses or else it's not technology. In the free market and tech, conservatism--staying the same--is antithetical.

You managed to forget how woefully unreliable the average CVT is. The CVT is not an improvement in any way except for two, mpg and cost. The entire design is weak, there's a reason they don't put them behind powerful engines. The only good CVT isn't really a CVT at all, the Prius' eCVT is fantastic because it's a totally different beast.

65mpg ish. Sometimes up to 67 or 68. Just watch the acceleration is all. Learn to utilize the electric motor more at higher speeds and you can do 700 miles on a tank.

Heated side mirrors are very important for folks who live in colder area. The mirrors can easily get fogged up or covered in ice. The heat prevents that from happening. I hope that helps..

You aren’t much of a guru, for a complete misunderstanding of dual electric motor in Prius. It is NOT a cvt with pulley and belt as you assumed. The transmission is simply done by increasing or decreasing the voltage/current to the drive electric motor. So much for a car guru.

Sorry, did not see this until now due to answering a direct question. I have driven through a lot of wind, I am in Kansas and we are as if not more windy than Chicago and no issues. Have never had issues in rain either. Handles fine in the snow, they do not plow our roads very well and I have never gotten stuck, we don't get as much as Chicago though so depends on how deep you try to drive through on that one.

I had a test drive with the Ioniq PHEV, and I loved it from a technological point of view. However, what I want is a good looking compact SUV with the PHEV technology. The Ioniq is a fairly good looking saloon, with great technology, and the facelifted version includes one pedal driving capability, which makes the car even more attractive. Hyundai offer the Ioniq as a purely electric vehicle, as a hybrid, and as a plug-in hybrid, so why don‘t they offer a sporty compact SUV with the PHEV technology and one pedal driving capability ? The Kona does not fill this vacuum.

I would choose the Prius because of the extra space but Toyota's stubborn refusal to include Android Auto is a dealbreaker, something I thought I would never say. I wonder if they ever sat down and calculated how many sales they've lost over the years by refusing to include this feature? If I bought the Hyundai the first thing I'd do is replace those wheels which I believe are safety hazards. Low resistance equals loss of control on slippery roads.

Craigslist Seller I call bullshit. There are two dealers here who specialize in used Prius cars. They're all over the county, being used in several commercial applications. I bought one at eight years old, and it's probably the best car I've ever driven. They'll go over 300,000 miles, no problem.
