The original #Hyundai #Tucson was late to the compact SUV party about 15 years ago and even though it doesn't sell in the same amount as rivals, still represents a solid choice in the ultra competitive compact CUV segment. When the current generation came out in 2016, Hyundai went with a more mature design language and a new turbocharged engine paired with a segment first dual-clutch transmission. For 2019, the #HyundaiTucson loses that unique engine option for something a bit more mainstream and while the design also gets more conservative, their are rumors of a possible #TucsonN being in the works and it should add some fun to an otherwise bland segment.

@Steve Robertson yes the Rav4. Thought the Tucson was quiet. Actually if you see a few reviews on the Rav4 (2019) you'll hear that comment. I also found the comfort of the Rav4 seat to be annoying, kept trying to find a good setting but never did. One reviewer said that he took it for a 3 day roadtrip and never found a good setting. Says something. I wanted to like it, but even with leather seats and sunroof, it wasn't worth the nearly $40K price tag on Limited, could have gone with the XLE Premium but the Tucson Ultimate beat that one in price and had more to offer. I think today you pay for the Toyota Rav4 name and people do. They are in there throwing money at the sales people with no sales going on.

Rented one this summer for a 15 hour trip both ways. Loaded down with 3 adults,2 huge suitcases, full size ice chest,at least 4-5 tote/duffle bags, a few back packs and 2 big purses. Unfortunately my mother became ill on our trip and we had to add 4 full size oxygen tanks to our trip home. We were able to store all of this with the driver backseat folded down. Was great on gas too. I believe we only filled up twice both ways. We felt safe and comfortable as well.

I just bought the 2020 Ultimate. My wife and I are in our 60's and this fits perfectly for us. I found that if you're going on the highway, putting it in the sport mode makes acceleration a bit better and the steering tighter (mpg will be lower tho) . Only complaint is the backup camera at night. The back lights make it blurry to see. And now that you said it, seat memory adjustments would be a plus.

Just purchased the Tucson last week and I love it. I really enjoy the fact that it’s a smaller suv. I didn’t want the larger model. The drive is exceptional imo. Very smooth and comfortable. The touchscreen tablet for a radio is great for my older eyes but man there is a lot going on there. I haven’t even begun to figure it out yet. It has a really cool feature called blue link that works off an app for your phone. It allows for remote start as well as things like setting the temperature of the interior. This is our third Hyundai and I see no real reason to ever buy anything else unless you just have a preference. All my Hyundai have been super reliable and of course the warranty is exceptional. As a matter of fact it’s actually gotten better since the last Hyundai we purchased!! Who does that? Take a great warranty and make it even better! I love it. Super happy with my purchase.

Why your point of review is to diminish and talk down the brand and their features. Looks like every comment that you make about anything on the car is OK, cheap, you know basic for the segment, a just refreshing, etc. I would like to know against what are you comparing it to? how high is the bar of comparison here? Are you trying to compare the Hyundai brand against MB, BMW or any other high end vehicle brand? Because this should be compare with the price point and segment that is directly competing with. Definitely Hyundai is well know to offer better quality, reliability, safety features and technology than the competition base on what you get for the money you pay. So if you are nick picking on personal preference and taste, you are not being neutral on reviews. I understand not every vehicle please the taste of everyone but talk down every single stuff about the brand it is kind of disappointing from the viewer stand point. The viewers that watch reviews want to see the how well equipped and the features a vehicle come with and not your personal opinion about what did you like or not.

I have a hyundai tucson 2011. Becareful people, the switch/stick shift from drive to neutral to reverse gets jammed often. That's one thing in common about tucson (I've had mines jam for lord knows how many). And then I got a letter from Hyundai stating that they recalled my car engine. Which is why I think my mechanics could never permanently fix that problem, it might be the engine after all. So, be ready for a car company to recall your models 8 years after being bought brand new. I only have 120,000 miles. Though, I keep maintenance up and other then the stick shift, the car is up to date and in perfect condition. Love the car, wish the company wouldn't have waited 8 years to tell me this.

It's sleek, it's modern, and looks better than anything in its class as far as I'm concerned. Interior is well thought out with good cargo capacity, comfortable seats and a very modern and contemporary looking instrument panel/center stack design. Material's quality is as good or better than any Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru or other vehicles in its class. And it drives and handles very well & is quite nimble for its size. First things first. There are no hard and fast rules that define a "compact" SUV in terms of size. When a manufacturer designs these vehicles they have take into account (a) how it compares in features and size to competitors from other manufacturers; (b) how it fits into their own overall line-up of SUV's; and (c) in the case of Hyundai and KIA how to differentiate very similar size vehicles drawing on a common set of parts and components so they capture somewhat different market segments. With those factors in mind, consider the following... () Size. At 176" in length the Tucson is among the shortest vehicles in its class. In fact, it's a couple of inches shorter than the CX-5 while offering slightly more overall cargo and passenger space. Comparing the Tucson to the Nissan Rogue is really a stretch (pun intended). At 185" in length the Rogue is much closer in overall size to the Hyundai Santa Fe (188") than to the Tucson. Even if the Tucson matched the Subaru Forester in length (at 182" it's arguably among the largest of the "true" compacts) it would run the risk of impacting Santa Fe sales. Clearly Hyundai would not want that. () Engine choices. Why did Hyundai drop their 2.4L turbo engine option? The answer may well be because that exact engine is offered as an option in the near identical Kia Sportage. Hyundai and KIA have a strong incentive to differentiate those models in order to broaden the Kia conglomerate's overall market coverage. Among those differences is offering somewhat more "premium" features in the Tucson versus stronger (optional) performance in the Sportage. Why not add the 2.0L turbo that's in the Santa Fe? The answer is the same reason the Tucson isn't larger. () Bottom Line. Though Sofyan admits it only reluctantly, Hyundai seems to have aimed the Tucson at precisely the market sub-segment to whom they want to appeal. It's small with efficient interior packaging and upscale features. It's quiet and easy to drive. For those who want more performance in a vehicle the size of the Tucson, the Korean manufacturers have the KIA Sportage. Want something with significantly more room and performance? The Santa Fe (and the near identical KIA Sorento) appeals to that market segment without reaching the level of larger "midsize" crossovers.

You keep saying its small, but if it has same leg room as competitors and is smaller outside, why should anyone complain? You compare price of Tuscon to Nissan, which blurs the strength of Tuscon. Then you compare the size and standard driver assistant features to Rav4 to make it look bad. What kind of comparison is that? Rav4 can top out at 38K. So they're basically not in the same category in terms of price. It should rather be compared to the Santa Fe in that sense and Santa Fe beats Rav4 on safety or size.

We have a 2017 Sport with the turbo coming up on its lease end so I enjoyed getting your opinion of the Tucson without the turbo. By the way, there is one other trim option Hyundai offers that gets many of the same goodies as the Ultimate, including the pano roof, but with a much sportier all blacked out appearance package and a lower $30,800 price tag and it is called the "Night" package. It was discontinued in 2018 but is available for 2019. We're also considering a few other cars, including the Santa Fe, but the Tucson Night is a serious option for us. Great video, as always! LED *interior* lighting is actually a huge negative if it is proprietary. It is laughably trivial to swap normal incandescent interior bulbs with *YOUR CHOICE* of LED bulbs. For example, I put extremely warm tinted (phosphor-based amber) for the interior, so the light is usable but does not attract bugs. Things get slightly messy for brake bulbs, but it's generally not a huge deal. Now, turn signals, can be a bigger mess, due to the decades old per-side (as opposed to per-bulb) dead-bulb detection mechanism, leading to hyper-flashing.

He seems to be lamenting the loss of the 1.6T in the Tucson, but from what I understand, Hyundai stopped offering that engine because of reliability issues with the dual-clutch transmission it's commonly paired with. If that engine/transmission combo wasn't working out, kudos to Hyundai for ditching it in favor of something else that might be more reliable.

I believe Hyundai put a conventional torque converter auto because so many people complain about CVTs. Funny thing is CVTs do tend to get better mileage and now some people complain about the lower mileage in conventional autos. So to silence the complainers and attain better mileage, Hyundai has started to make the change to CVTs in their compact and sub compact cars and CUVs. We will start seeing them in the new Elantra/Forte, new Venue, etc. I have a feeling the MPG complainers will bemoan the phasing out of the conventional autos when the CVTs arrive, but there is a reason why most others cars/CUVs in this class use CVTs. They get noticeably better mileage.

I'll defend stuck-on screens for two reasons. The first is it locates them in the right place, at the top of the dash. The example he showed of a molded in screen is two low. Two much eye diversion. So if you want the screen hi up but still integrated into the dash, you now have a really high dash, and that can feel a bit claustrophobic. I think more and more you will see a hybrid of the two. The screen is up high, with just enough dash around it, to make it appear built in rather than added on. I also recall when car features were adding up combined with an explosion of audio input sources, and critics complained about over-complicated instrument panels with too many buttons. Face it, there three choices: too many buttons, control screens, or a 90s level feature content. And when your life consists of driving a car for a week, reviewing it, and then driving something else...sure trying to figure out screen menus can be annoying. Fortunately, the rest of us buy cars and keep them for a few years, giving us all kinds of time to figure out how our car does things. It is hard to find a reviewer that doesn't forget this.

Laughable review when you are judging the sound of the door closing on an economy car. We bought a new 2018 Mercedes GLC and a new Elantra (with basically the same interior as the Tucson) around the same time. The Hyundai feels like a more expensive car than it is. Not Mercedes good because it only costs 1/3 as much but it compares amazingly well. This guy is worrying about piddly things on a low end budget SUV. Ever sit in a Honda or Toyota in the same class? They are a step below yet I bet he never says a word. Its called confirmation bias. Complains about the Tucson size but loves the Mazda cx-5 that is no bigger. Yes its boring, its an appliance designed to get you places. Its also quieter and smoother riding than many competitors. Its a trade off many buyers like because who is racing around in rush hour traffic anyway?
