I borrowed a 2018 H2 SX SE for the day, and by the end of it I couldn't wait to get back on my ZZR1400. I found the H2's seat bum-numbingly hard, and the power delivery a bit unpredictable. Yes, the H2 is more agile, but it didn't feel as planted as the ZZR. I realise that it's like comparing apples and oranges, but give me the buttery-smooth never-ending pull of my 1400 any day.

Still not convinced on these filling the same role as the ZX-14R/ZZR1400, even if the purchase price wasn't so far out of my budget. Those big bore engines seem to be extremely durable, but I wonder about the longevity of 1000cc supercharged engines. Especially given the lure of so much additional performance available with little more than an ecu flash.
@K-carbon
@K-carbon 5 жыл бұрын
No complacement for displacement hey 😁
@Joric78
@Joric78 5 жыл бұрын
@@K-carbon Something like that. I mean I know they've detuned these to @170rwhp from the H2/R (which specifies conrod and exhaust valve changes at 60 hours over 8000 rpm), but apparently that can be increased to @220 (and back again) with nothing more than an ECU flash. I'll be interested in whether we will see these getting around with over 100,000 kms in a few years, as you do with the ZX-14Rs.
@petertakov
@petertakov 5 жыл бұрын
@Joric78 I have a Versys 1000 with 78k km on it. Bought it brand new 3 years ago and a friend of mine bought the same bike at the same time but only has less 10k k. on his. I've tried his recently and mine runs better. Obviously it's not the same 1000 cc engine as the one on the H2 but 100k should be nothing for these modern engines.
@Joric78
@Joric78 5 жыл бұрын
@@petertakov Well I assume the engine's are good in stock trim if the maintenance schedule is adhered to. I'm sure Kawasaki has tested them for endurance. I doubt the increase in compression ratio and new pistons would decrease service life when the engine was originally designed for considerably more power. It's more about whether they'll still be reliable if you flash the ECU for an easy extra 50+ hp. People seem to assume that the top end power was tuned down for emissions, noise or fuel economy, but seem to ignore the durability question. I guess my concerns come down to whether H2 SX engines are relatively "overbuilt" and understressed in the same way as ZX-14Rs or Hayabusas? There's not many production forced induction vehicles where you can just flash the ECU (or wind up the boost) for an extra 30% power without an impact on reliability.
@alexlindberg88

I actually just traded in my 2014 ZX14R on a brand new H2 SX SE. Stock it's obviously not as fast as my 14R was but mine was modified with full exhaust, ECU flash and a BMC air filter. Dynoed tuned to 202whp. My H2 will be faster than old bike when im done though as supercharger adds a whole new level of power to be gained. I will tell you the SE is the way to go as you get way more shit vs base SX but this bike checks off every gripe I had about my 14. I'm a tall guy and the riding position is a bit more neutral than 14 and about 2 more inches of legroom than my 14 had. Cruise control, Bosch 6 axis ABS system. This bike is a work of art and electronically superior than the 14 was by far. So far I have 260 miles total on the H2 SX SE. Quickshifter is also badass as I've never had a bike that was equipped with one till now. 14 has more bite out of the hole and more torque. The supercharger really comes on around 7k though and feels like it will give the 14 a run from a roll. Unless kawi updates the 14R with similar electronics I'll stick with the H2s from now on.

I can only assume your referring to the Lockheed SR-71. There are so few people who have actually flown one of these when they were in service and even fewer now that they are not in service. I have to say my BS meter is twitching... you may be able to tip the scales in your favor by going into detail about what they use to keep the tires from going flat and in relation to this question once the U2 was shot down over Ussr in 1960... how did our government explain not still flying spy missions despite the unique substance periodically going low which these planes need for the wheels. (part of the U2 pilot being released from captivity was that we would quit spying and of course we said "why shure thing!" but you know that was BS and we just did it more sneaky). I doubt you can find this on google so if you are faking busted, but a pilot who flew one of these will know! I do because my relative worked on the U2 supplies back in the 1960's. They all are alike when it comes to what they use for the tires. Not saying if you know you are for real but a lot more believable.

Need some advice. I currently have a 2019 GS1250 Rally TE Adventure, had it 3 months but I can’t live with the agricultural engine noice and front end road noise. Looking at changing to a more sporty tourer, had in the past mainly super sports GS1000 ect. I’m thinking of H2 SX In Grey 2019 kitted out with full tour kit, including heated grips. Registered new, or 2018 SX Se 3,000 fully kitted with tour kit but not that keen on the green. Other option BMW 1000 rr m .or GS1000xr I don’t do much long distance touring but when I out I like to run for about 200 miles but I want the smile on my face back. Had it once with a gixer1000 k5 but also rode it too fast, that’s why I like the idea of cruise control. I value your opinion as you have ridden and owned a few of them .

Lamb Chop Rides This is my dreambike. I rode the cheaper, black, 2018 model that is a bit lighter when it was brand new 2018. If I remember correctly the seating position was pretty close to the standard BMW S1000R not the "M" version. Would you agree or do I remember a bit wrong ? I remember that you were canted forward a bit more than my MT-10 and Ninja 1000SX was for instance. I think just like you it is much more comfy for long distance touring to take some weight of your a$s and balance it out with having some more weight on your wrists so I just love this semi aggressive riding position that the S1000R and H2SX has. So much better than the Ninja 1000SX, MT-10 or GSX-S1000.

commented before but just found something out that owners or even potential owners need to know. since it is a single sided swing arm you need a c style spanner but kawasaki doesnt include the spanner. oh and its $240 usd... supposedly you can use another manufacturers spanner to work on it but the manuals do not include torque specs or at least that i have seen. bout to spend $120 to just get my chain adjusted because i cant find a fitting spanner or the specs.

I went full tilt and bought the H2. I should have been more sensible and bought the SX or SX SE, but I am a bit mental.

How is this bike when you are in town? I mean Im driving a gtr1400 (concours14) and I hate it whenever I have to be in traffick because it gets quickly heated up and starts the fans to cool the engine.

Great review. It's an impressive machine & piece of engineering without a doubt but it's physical size & weight would put me off (because I'm a weed lol). I'm also not sure about the looks, I think it might date but either way it's undoubtedly a special bike. I also like your version of running it in & "taking it easy" lol.

Will be interesting to see if they put cruise control on the Z1000SX as that’s their cheaper sports tourer. It won’t be this year, though hopefully in 2020. H2 is a lovely bike.

I think they will probably fit it for 2020 too, I’m just about to trade my Z1000SX for a H2 SX, I rode one at weekend and you are not always hunting for extra gears on the motorway on the H2 like you are on the Z

Just got rid of my H2 SX SE 😊 Not actually a dump valve, the chirping is via a hole Kawasaki engineered in to make the sound from the impeller fan tips audible. Loved the bike but when you’re on it it drinks petrol which limits it as a serious tourer unfortunately.

@LambChopRides 5 жыл бұрын
Have to say Kurlach been really impressed with the fuel economy. I know its an area Kawasaki have worked on for this year. Riding a spirited ride to Weymouth which is about 200 miles fuel consumption compared to my buddies BMW S1000R (naked bike) was more or less exactly the same! I was expected to be at the pumps constantly but was impressed. Think on the MPG bike said average was about 36 mpg I think..

What is the purpose of having such a powerful bike with all the speed limits? For touring there are much more comfortable bikes with enough power. I had z1000sx and it was great fun but not good for touring. Think it's the same with this one. Of course it is a pretty bike
