My mom is an 84yr old retired teacher. She believed that a teacher should never insult a child or undermine a child's ability. She believed in encouraging children to do their best because they could be anything they wanted to be. And she lived and breathed those beliefs. So many of those kids approached my mother to remind her of the pivotal role she has played in their lives and how she encouraged and believed in them. Many are graduates and have successful careers because they believed they could, and they did.

RLee, thank you for your kind words. Yes my mom was and still is a great teacher. She forges ahead tirelessly to teach and help her great-grandchildren to this day with homework. The pandemic restarted classes at home. 😄 Had it not been for her, they would not have had the foundation to understand many subjects and to embrace learning. Thank you for your service to our children too. Teachers don't understand their worth. You are the unsung heroes of this world. Oh, and she knows how to Google just about anything! 😂😂🙏

Your mother sounds like a primary school teacher that i had for some years. She was the best and ever so caring. I even have to admit she was like a mother too as mine wasn’t plane sailing. Thank you to your mother. I’m now older too (46+), I’m 🇬🇧, I’m also black(its not about race, but just wanted to add this in the current climate of things). This teacher was/is white and she was the best.

As a former senior graduate of 2022 this is so heart felt and heart warming. I hope that everyone else who’s a senior also respects their teachers because they struggle a lot helping us seniors graduate and it can be very emotional and can also be our final goodbye to many of our senior friends. Congrats to all the seniors who’re graduating or have already graduated. Best of luck to everyone

I was homeschooled during my senior year in high school unfortunately, but I became friends with a lot of my teachers in elementary and middle school on Facebook! My top favorite teacher taught second grade, Carrie Ann Cain, and she was SUPER nice!! If she came in the room and we were feeling bad, in a few minutes, she would have us feeling good! She had the prettiest and shiniest blue eyes and the prettiest blonde curly hair in the world! She would give us hugs every day before and after school, and would pass out candy canes and other treats about once a month! Unfortunately she left on maternity leave in 2011, and haven’t seen her since 2010. I really hope I see her again💙💙

My high school did something similar, we went to our prior elementary schools to talk to all the old staff and kids also to find any teachers we had there; if the were still there, also they put together a very special thing for us, they went through all 5 years of our yearbooks and picked out each individual photo to show our growth throughout the years, it was very moving and I got to finally say thank you to my first grade teacher who shared a room with my 2nd grade teacher. Luckily for me they were both still there and remembered me, I got to thank them for always believing in me especially when I didn’t and for pushing me to always put forth my best effort each day.

My youngest brother just graduated in 2020 and decided to see a very special teacher in our lives that we ironically all shared. Mrs. Fillinger was our first-grade teacher and impacted our lives each in different ways either in school or even outside of it. After my brother's graduation, we each pulled out our cap and gowns and made our way to her house to surprise her. Needless to say, she was overjoyed and honored by our visit. Appreciate the teachers that impact our kid's lives, they make a difference.

Teaching early head start in low income neighborhoods and being a positive male role model for children of color was worth it despite being overqualified and underpaid. For me, it was the single mom's working hard who seemed to appreciate my role moreso in a female dominated stressful environment. Folks often ask why I quit, I respond its truly sad that its the low pay. For someone like me with a bachelors and CDA earning less than a liveable wage, loaded student loan debt is a disgrace and diservice to our children... the future generation. But the number of heartfelt cards I've collected over the years remind me that my role mattered for most parents... especially single mom's. I'll always remember Jack who was toddler at the time (now at least 9 years old), a kid all the female teachers expressed difficulty handling. Everyday it seemed this kids mom got some bad news from them which no parent wants to hear. Though my classroom was school aged kids, his mom and others noted under my care he had less behavioral issues and whenever he threw tantrums... i had way of getting down to his level and keeping my cool. Well, on his last day at my center, his mom mustve seen mr leaving in her rearview, turned round and pulled over by the sidewalk. She said in tears, "Mr. Chris, thank you so much for being patient with Jack. His dad and I recently divorced and I'm moving to Houston. You will never know how much your presence and time matters with everything going on.. me working and his dad moving out. Thank you. We'll miss you!" That's probably the most touching of moments and memories I'll never forget... where i truly felt valued and appreciated. On the rare occasion, run into families in public and its great to see my stidents growing fast. While he won't remember me, I hope Jack is doing well and his mom knows the impact she had on mine by showing gratitude.

I wanted to do this so badly but with the coronavirus pandemic and the closure of schools in March and the cancellation of our graduation ceremonies, we unfortunately were not able to. I wanted to let all of my favorite teachers know they meant a lot to me in school and helped me shape to who I am today. If things with the pandemic start calming next spring and it'd be safe by then, I'm gonna try to do this
