As a woman I appreciate you talking about men issues. We are seeing a lot of changes in our society and it's important to understand eachother. I'm very happy for you, you have so many wonderful projects for 2019. I'm currently in the process of writing a French poetry /illustrations book for people with Alzheimer's. Have a magical year Marko!

Take it easy Marko. It is way easy to overdo and make things too hard. I am a champ at it. Don't burn out. I think most of us would rather wait on content than that. thanks for being so honest

You maybe 33 but from what I can tell you are well educated, traveled and mentored. Having these quality can create a well rounded thought provoking book. It can also educate others who have never even left America, who only watch the very bias news. People have moved mountains and changed the world as teenager; so if age is what's stopping you it is just a number. You also have an incredible platform to encourage great change. I know that probably comes with a lot of stress and anxiety but nothing will ever be perfect just be your honest, humble and intelligent self. If you fail then you learn and do better next time with a wonderful support system around you. After all most of your fans are younger than you so who are we to judge. I know all this is easier said than done but I hope it gives you atleast one ounce of encouragement.

I think after a certain point age matters less in the amount of varied experiences you've had. You've not only travelled a lot but read a lot as well. "Staying curious and exploring" must've given you many unique experiences and insight. Moreover, think of all the people who wait for your videos and content. We are so excited for it so please don't hold yourself back in any way.

Thank you for this really amazing video. It really speaks to me cause I’m finding myself in a slightly similar situation. 2018 was a year when I rediscovered myself and now I’m working on my dreams to come true. Which is harder than I thought. I’m constantly feeling like I’m not doing enough and I’m way behind my schedule of starting my writing blog and posting new articles regularly etc. But at the same time I can force myself to write when I don’t feel like it cause than nothing good comes out of it. So I’m looking forward to see the story behind your writing cause I find it very inspiring. So thank you once again and keep doing that great job.🙂✌️

Ever think about doing a Master’s in Literature? With your experience of travelling the world, I would imagine it could be interesting to look at how travelogues have changed over the past couple of thousand years (When I hiked the Camino de Santiago I took the original 11th century guide book with me-it was still surprisingly accurate) or perhaps New Romanticism in travel literature within the context of global issues such as climate change and the digital era. I think you would make a wonderful professor and that you might find the life balance that comes with it quite healthy. Or just write your book-a masters, PhD and post doc are quite the commitment!!

Laid back is great :) And I love how you'll be speaking about Men's issues. Men's issues are women's issues, and vice versa. When everyone feels confident and seen, it helps remove violence and abuse. If you haven' read it, I think you would like the new Brene brown book Into the Wilderness. She speaks so much about de-humanization. So glad to see all your personal growth and that you're listening to your own needs :) And i'm excited for your book! I'm 31, so I agree, sometimes it's a "what the hell do I know about the world" kind of thing. But I think young people will enjoy being able to connect to someone who is also young. It's nice to know you don't have to be 65 to have had valuable experiences in growth and life. :):)

This was a great video - it felt like catching up with a friend. Looking forward to your new videos on this channel. I'd love to hear your views on how toxic masculinity is affected by literature. For example, you've said in the past you're a huge Kerouac fan but when I read On the Road and Dharma Bums, what stood out to me was that the female characters were basically sex objects. I liked the books and it's not a criticism of you or those who love them (I'm clearly not the intended reader as a 30 something woman). But by celebrating these books as classics are we also fuelling a nostalgia for that era and the gender norms that came with it? Curious to know if this kind of thing is something you've thought about or will explore in your book club.
@MarkoAyling6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, I totally agree. I recently reread On the Road and realized the same thing, which I was less conscious of when I read it as an 18 year old. Hence my hesitation to recommend the book despite my appreciation for the cultural importance of the best generation as a whole. Might recommend Dharma Bums instead
@portia3316 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying and considering this issue! I definitely preferred Dharma Bums to On the Road and the story and style is probably more accessible to a broader audience. Looking forward to more videos from you and good book recommendations. 😊

the idea of toxic masculinity or redefining masculinity is a very interesting. It's something that the feminist movement has already started to work on with trying to eliminate toxic manifestatons of traditional femininity that puts women into a certain box that does not fit in modern progressive society. I do think outside of very extreme examples of MeToo movement, there are many manifestations on how traditional masculinity is harmful, especially what comes to mental health and coping mechanisms that are taught to boys in early ages. I am for equal rights for both genders, a feminist and I with both hands support the idea to explore and study the issues that traditional masculinity puts on men, and the whole society. In Estonia we have a saying: "men don't cry". I don't have kids but if one day I should give birth to a boy, I want him to not be scared to show feelings, to cry, to be himself and not have to be alone in his struggles to portray a facade of a "strong man" that is expected by society. I can't say for US, but in Estonia, 70-80 per cent of suicides are commited by men. I am no expert and have not read any studies in relation between suicide rates and these taught attitudes but for me it is a clear evidence something has gone very wrong here and we should take notice of this. sorry for the essay, didn't expect this to grow so long. anyways, looking forward to the new format of the channel and of course the book! all the best, Marko!
