2019 Limited Edition Fender American Professional Stratocaster Review and Demo

In this video I review the 2019 Limited Edition American Professional Stratocaster.
We start with an overview of the guitars specifications and features and conclude with a musical example featuring the guitar using a variety of pick up settings and tones.
The signal path is the guitar into a Helix LT. We are using a stock preset which is based on a the Fender Deluxe Reverb amplifier in the vibrato channel. That signal runs straight into garage band with no EQ's or after effects applied to the guitar tracks.

When you switched from the bridge to the neck my mind just exploded hearing that beautiful, classic, glassy tone jump out. Wonderful playing. I just picked up one these on a trade from a drummer who barely played it. I’m stoked!

Beautiful guitar, is this guitar neck/headstock heavy because of the full rosewood neck? is it still nice and balanced like most strats? please let me know, Thanks.

I just bought 2 of these guitars (one for me and the other for my son). The first one has a dark chocolate neck and the second has some lighter grain stripes that almost match the body running down the neck. The tone on these things are excellent and the color combo is just awesome. Not sure it's true or not, but on a dealer ad he had said that there were only 350 of these made. Not sure how to verify this but would like to know.

Hey Rick. You are correct. These were made in limited numbers. Very nice guitars. Before I shot the video I reached out to Fender and provided the serial number. Their rep told me 400 were made. You could do the same just to double check. I hope you and your son have years of fun with those guitars. I really enjoyed that one.

I like the two point trem better personally. Haven’t spent time with any other American Pro series so I can’t really say.

Hi Lucas, not many vids on the rosewood neck American Pros, so first and foremost thank you. I've been reading up on all-rosewood necks and people say that they are as bright as maple but more boomy in the low end. I didn't hear that on your demo track. It sounded warm and punchy to me. What are you thoughts on the tonal characteristics of this neck? If you're feeling generous, a comparison to all maple, maple w/ rosewood fingerboard, and/or roasted maple necks would be welcome. Maybe this is a topic for a future video? Cheers

Hi Steve! That's a great suggestion. I would have to ask Jeff if it would be ok with him if I did that since it's not my guitar. The only way to make it a fair comparison would be to swap the neck on the body and because this is a new for sale guitar I cannot do that. The best I could do would be to compare it to my highway one. My 77 has an all maple neck but its also not an alder body. My Highway 1 is an Alder body with a maple neck and rosewood board. The pickups are Tone Emporium Big City Blues. They are an Alnico 5 magnet with a DC resistance of 6K for each pickup so they are in the ballpark of the Pure Vintage 65 Pickups which are also a low output Alnico 5 .......do you think that would be a helpful comparison? If so, I will ask if I can keep the guitar a little longer so I can make the video for you. Let me know ok? Thanks!!

​@@LucasCrossleyGuitar Hey Lucas, I think you're right in that the most accurate test would be to stick with one body and swap necks, but I get that you can't take Jeff's guitar apart! Imo it would be worth waiting until you can do it that way in order to isolate the tone of the neck wood as best you can. Hope that you keep this in mind. Comparing the neck wood tone is not new to KZbin, but majority of videos are maple vs maple w/ rosewood fretboard, and many of those aren't even executed well. You are thorough with the topics you cover in your videos and it would be interesting to take that same old comparison and throw an all-rosewood neck into the mix, or roasted maple for that matter.

Hey Steve. Have a look on google at Phil McKnight. He's a pretty sharp guy runs a youtube channel called Know Your Gear. He did a comparison using the Professional Series Rosewood Versus the Pro Series with a Maple neck (I think) Now his audio isn't the greatest but its the same guitar with the same everything just two different necks. Have a look at that and see if it helps you out. If I get a chance to do a direct comparison someday I will gladly do that. As a small channel I'm lucky to have Jeff being willing to lend me stuff to demo for him otherwise I'd be out of luck eh. See I through the eh in there for ya. LOL. Hope you're well man. It’s a good question. I think it is possible due to the limited runs they make but honestly I’m not too sure. Usually a rare Fender that’s a good guitar will be something folks are always willing to pay for.
