The SUV business saved Porsche from going bankrupt. SUVs are the most practical vehicles and sell like hot cakes. The Macan S is really the sweet spot between luxury SUV and sports car.

This engine is also in the VW Touareg TSI. So the Touareg and the Cayenne shares the same platform and so it is blast to drive as well.

Loving the collaboration. If you had a 4runner for road trips/hauling kids, would you pick the Macan or Cayenne coupe?

Regardless of Macan using the same 2L engine as Audi Q5, there’s a considerable price difference between Q5 and Macan that juts puts Macan quite a notch above Q5 - at least here in India. And it’s smaller in dimension than Q5 as well. The top end Macan S costs as much as BMW X5 xDrive40i in India (almost 4 grand premium over BMW) which is a segment above Macan and is a fairly larger vehicle. The 30d model of X5 is even more cheaper than Macan S. And let’s not get down to Cayenne that sits at the top of astronomical price tags of premium luxury SUVs in India. What’s interesting is that, regardless of such an extortionate sticker, these SUVs (Cayenne especially) are pretty popular here and are in great demand. Do you think Porsche is being unfair in pricing their SUVs in India?

Thats the Indian govt's levies and taxes put on top of the cars not made in India. Also, I'd drive a macan S over an X5 anyday. But, thats subjective.

@@araina999 : Maybe it’s the Indian government’s policies that make such small car to cost as much as or more than the car larger in size but in the same premium segment. And I don’t really blame Indian government for that because the government of any country has its own market and interests to take the first priority. Every country does that. Personally, I too would prefer a Porsche over Germans trios if price was no bar.

I’ve tried to like the new rear strip lights on the new Macan, great on the new 912 and Panamera but nope, its fugly. Because every model has to have one for continuity reasons they’ve backed themselves into a design dead end. The strip light doesn’t suit every model. I hate the Cayman for the same reason although that’s always had an awkward looking back end since it’s conception. Hope they don’t build the transfer boxes out of egg cartons theses days too!

Only other costs were annual service and one set of brakes. That's it.

I used to love Miami Blue now I think it’s played out, I think it’s going to age horribly especially for resale, it will only survive well on cars like Ford GTs and so on. Even on 911s I think it’s going to age terribly.

Nope, if you can afford the extra get the new GTS, it comes with the better “turbo” based 2.9 liter engine and the usual GTS upgrades.

How would you compare the Macan S to the Audi SQ5?

Both are great choices. On paper the SQ5 has more power but the handling of the Porsche is fantastic. I say try both and see what you like. SQ5 is cheaper for sure.
