When Èlia started playing, my first thought (looking at Joan Chamorro) was "how can he just keep playing?" I would have to be bending down to pick up my jaw off the floor! Of course, I guess having rehearsed this a few times, maybe he's "used" to it, but wow she is a great jazz violinist! And the rest of the gang supports her very nicely on this one. Nice solo by Josep, too. Good stuff!

Now then. Where do I start with this? It's a given than Èlia is fantastic. The same goes for the rest of the group, we know the standard will always be really high. What that doesn't tell you is just how well the group works together as a group, always perfectly in time, moving as one. Oscar Peterson once said of The Count Basie Orchestra that it "breathes as one", and it's the same here. Also special mention should go the wonderful guitar duet between Josep and Carla. You guys are awesome!

During my life I have enjoyed the work of many violinists including the leading classical virtuoso of his day Yehudi Menhuin. Before I was born he visited locally and played with our municipal orchestra and I have a photograph of him with my late grandfather who played Cello and Eflat clarinet and performed with Menhuin. Menhuin was no 'stuffed shirt' and enjoyed performing on TV in the jazz genre with Stefane Grappelli. In the 1950's we had a very celebrated radio violinist, Max Jaffa, who appeared weekly from "The Palm Court of the Grand Hotel" playing light orchestral music. There are many others including in Jazz Stuff Smith and of course Stephane Grappelli. These were all seasoned musicians compared with whom Elia is just starting out but on the evidence so far she certainly has the potential to become a leading international violinist. She obviously take her music very seriously and deserves success.

Wonderful rendition ..... not too fancy .... just right. The playing is stylized yet allows the lovely melody to be an equal participant. Elia is gifted. Monk notes sometimes hide in the fingerboard.

Da gusto oíros en esa sala tan bien acondicionada que tenéis. Esta pieza siempre me ha gustado, y vuestra interpretación es genial. A veces me da la impresión de escuchar a Grappelli. I like this rendition. Monk's 'Round Midnight' is like so much of the the with the work of J S Bach, no matter what new treatments or genres are heard, the deep essential quality of the theme remains very strong. This song has been running around in my head for some months now - ever since I heard Andrea's cover of it. It is almost a relief to hear another version. As a Frank Sinatra fan - there are many of his familiar songs I really like, or depending on my mood don't want to hear again. This is a very nice cover of this favorite.
