Best left hand in the game. So relaxed and clear definition in accent/taps, but the middle finger....

I was wondering about the middle finger. I know it's frowned upon to an extent, but I also noticed in the 2016 cam, he had the same middle finger. I've always thought that the middle finger aids in downstroke control, but is there a reason for the way they're doing it?
