I own the limited model and the trd pro. Its imperative that people remember the Trd pro is not an awd truck. It's a 2 wheel and can be made to 4x4 with rear locking diff on terrain that's slippery or terrian that allows for some wheel spin. Not a single you tube review channel reviews the TRD PRO properly or the Limited. 99% of people who are new to Toyota 4runner confuse the AWD model to the TRD PRO 2 wheel drive 4x4 on demand ONLY ON SELECT TERRAIN. SO YOUR DRIVING AROUND WITH A 2 WHEEL TRUCK MOST OF THE TIME AND EVEN ON RAINY HIGHWAYS. KEEP THAT IN MIND. PEOPLE BUY THE TRD PRO AND THEY'RE NOT TOLD THAT IT'S 2 WHEEL DRIVE AND YOU CAN'T USE THE 4X4 ON HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR NORMAL DAILY CAUSE IT'LL RUING YOUR DRIVE TRAIN AND TRANSMISSION. The limited has an AWD X-REAS shock system is a performance suspension that's is very very stiff on road and with the 20 inch rims some can aruge that it as though you can feel every bump in the road. It also makes the steering wheel a lot stiffer than most vehicles I know, ( you can't just change the shocks to match the limited model, unlike the trd series or even sr5, where you can buy the shocks and ad d ons to match the TRD PRO, with the Limited it's not possible that easily) The limited it's an entire system of pips, shocks gyros and oil reservoirs for each side's got a series of pipes that contain oil and a reservoir for each side of the vehicle and a gyroscope that will self level without fancy gadgets that fail. The limited also has center locking that LSD. Limited lacks the crawl control but it can still do what the TRD does minus the ability to control the speed or terrain. The cpu does that, WHICH ELIMINATES 98% OF BODY ROLL. You can place a wallet on the dash and make turns if you don't believe with the limited, it'll stay put and the truck will will level. The limited has Hill decent and anti roll back just like other models. The limited LACKS crawl and terrian select! but the limited has almost identical abilities when you activate L4L, is exactly like my Trd pro honestly. Each tire will spin independently based on traction. Limited also doesn't dip when towing. My Trd pro has very floating shocks ( bilstien not the new fox ) and on turns you can feel it with the body rolls, however it eats up bumpy roads like your sitting in the old school Towncar, it's that floaty. The trd pro has more aggressive shocks and it's got a different tune and different exhaust note and sound. Trd pro also tends to hold gears longer. So my advice is to anyone who lives in snow think about what model your going to get. Because you cant activate 4x4 on normal terrain that has no slipping surfaces, it'll destroy your drive train on the trd pro. The limited is awd all the time. For daily driving when its snowy. I enjoy my trd. But when its rainy or snowy or even highway travel, frankly, i'd go with Limited model. If you ever need to avoid something on the highway, limited. The TRD PRO handling at high way speeds is in my humble opinion questionable when compared to limited. BIGGEST difference between the two systems is the ability of the Full Time 4WD system to allow the center differential to be unlocked. Without that ability, the vehicle expects the front and rear wheels to always spin at the same rate of speed, which is what can lead to the excessive wear and tear with a Part Time system if you leave it in 4H all the time. The Limited model, with it’s unlocked center differential mode, is designed to be left in 4WD at all times. 2H - Only two wheels receive power, in the case of modern 4Runners, the rear wheels. Use this for normal driving on dry hard-surfaced roads. This position gives greater fuel economy, quietest ride and least wear. 4H - Both front and rear wheels receive power. Use this for driving only on surfaces that permit the tires to slide, such as off-road icy or snow-covered roads. This position provides greater traction than two-wheel drive. 4L - Both front and rear wheels receive power, a low speed, high torque application. Use this for maximum power and traction. Use “L4” for climbing or descending steep hills, off-road driving, and hard pulling in sand, mud or deep snow. One thing to be aware of, constant driving in the Four Wheel modes with a Part Time 4WD system can lead to excessive or uneven tire wear, as well as additional wear and tear on the drive train components. With respects to the horsepower, I really don't think the power and torque are accurate, it think Toyota claims a lower number because I have compared this to 295hp vehicles and it was bumper to bumper with them on acceleration. It doesn't drive or behave like a 275 hp vehicle.

@@one-mmog its bizzare really. As a daily driver. The limmited is the way to go. Especially in snow and rain. And even off reading I can do anything that the trd does because it still has lockers, and off road features and complete protection on the bottom. And it's exactly .5 inches shorter than the trd. But the difference that the trd dipps with weight. And my limmited stays high.

Thanks for this info. I just traded my 12 Trail in today. I was looking at both the TRD and the Limited. After driving the Limited it is sitting in my garage tonight. I live in the Northeast and your explanation of the 4x4 system was the best. I was concerned about going from no 2wd option and not having a manual lever and going to a switch (I know younger guys would think I was nuts). I did not understand how the two 4wd options work, thank you for this!

I'm looking at the TRD off road or SR5 later this year. I live in Chicago where we get a lot of snow some winters. I don't really like the front of the Limited and I don't really want to spend $44,000+ for a 4runner. I also don't want leather seats or heated seats. I won't be doing much off road driving. I'm still learning about when to use 2WD and 4WD. I know not to use 4WD all the time. This will be my first vehicle that isn't FWD. I just like the overall look of the 4runner and at 6' 9" tall, I can fit in it comfortably and I plan to keep it "forever" like my current car/beater that's over 20 years old. Thanks for the info and any other tips are appreciated. I plan on doing a lot more research before I go looking for a 4runner later this year.

@@PartyUpLive I highly recommend you find say the sr5 model with AWD. what you gain traction control and overall performance will make you say THANK GOD over and over. belive me bro, there's nothing like the AWD system of Toyota. And I used to be a jeep "fan boy" but they kept breaking down so damn much. I got fed up. They offer that package. Unless your a hardcore offroader, which you're not, you'll thank me. I've been in the snow blizzard in Chicago driving to NYC with a 4500lb trailer. the 4 runner ate up the road and took on the storm like it was out for a weekend drive. The v6 engine is ample, the issue is really the transmission. There's delay. Which is why I use sequential mode. it basically sets the highest gear you want the 4runner to go. so on acceleration on a buzzy highway, ill set it to 1, then manually allow it to get to second, once it maxes 2nd, ill flip it back to D.

I had a Blizzard Pearl 2010 SR5 4WD which was Totaled. I loved that one, black cloth, actual key, 29 mpg....was great because you're running 2WD most of the time. Then, I bought the 2012 Shoreline Blue AWD Limited model. Heated Leather, Keyless keyfob, but 16 mpg, not 29. You pay for the full time AWD, but it is Supreme. You can always Disable the TRAC & VSC by Holding down the VSC button for 3 seconds.....and put her in H4L...when its very wet or slippery....Just put it back to H4F to tight turns. 😉

After sitting in a new Highlander & the Forerunner i couldn’t wait to go from my 2012 Highlander to a new 2015 Forerunner Limited, exactly like this silver one (2019 is still the identical design) but loaded with the beautiful brown leather & running boards. Great in snow & compliments everywhere I went. HOWEVER...after 2 years in this then $47,000 behemoth I could no longer take the unbelievably uncomfortable seats! No matter what adjustments I made the leather was hard and stiff. Literally my only complaint was the seats but it was enough to steer me out of the Toyota & into a 2017 Lincoln. I know the resale value is nowhere as good as a Toyota but I am always comfortable. For a $50,000 truck they really need to soften their seats! And while I am comfortable I do miss my Forerunner, especially in the winter.

Really great run through! My thoughts (for what they're worth) as a previous 4 Runner owner, and a (previously) committed Lexus owner. This is really a Lexus GX 460 on steroids!!! Almost the exact same layout and controls but a vehicle with a purpose! Having owned a Lexus LX 470 that I loved more than any vehicle yet sadly, after clocking 200k miles totaled, I went to the Lexus RX350-big mistake and now own a Lexus GX 460. This 4 Runner will be my next purchase as it's utilitarian with style! I'm still trying to figure out just who the hell Lexus built the GX for? It's basically a town car, soccer family vehicle with 4 wheel drive for almost twice the cost of the 4 Runner!! The 4 Runner has more style-a more aggressive, road ready profile with true off-road capabilities and everything is so well thought out that it beats the GX on all fronts. Love it!!!

Good job with this video. You explained everything in detail. I have a 2000 4Runner and I am in the market for something new very soon. To be honest, I am having a hard time spending between 40-45K on anything that is as outdated as the 4Runner. I know about the quality and the reliability but I also know that this is a dinosaur when you compare what you can get with an Explorer or a Grand Cherokee for the the same price. Toyota seems to think that a push button start is a cutting edge option that only belongs on the limited. This is something that is standard on pretty much everything that is out there. I also find it hard to believe that a remote start does not come with this top of the line 4Runner because again it comes standard with most other SUV's in the same price range. The 4Runner has also not changed it's design inside and out in 10 years. The complaint of low light output with the headlights has not changed even with the current 2019 model and in every comparison report I have seen, the 4Runner sits near the bottom of the pack for safety and that is partially because it has not been updated. I am not sure what Toyota is thinking because they seem to think that 4Runner owners are all driving these vehicles through the woods and climbing rocks and the owners don't care about having options. I hate to break this to Toyota but 80% of the people buying 4Runners never take them off the pavement and people do care that this vehicle is stuck in a time warp. When most other SUV manufacturers are searching for that perfect design of smooth lines, the 4Runner offers all hard lines and is very boxy. It's made well and has a great reputation for reliability which is why it is so strange that Toyota seems to have just tossed this vehicle aside and never updated it as if buyers don't care.
@Rgibb13256 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing when I bought new in 2013. Ended up going with the jeep grand cherokee overland, because it offered so many more features for the money. I wish I would have gone with the toyota though. Hold it's value much better. And probably overall more reliable. Toyota could definitely throw in a few more features for what you are spending though.

Some Toyota consumers like the old " why have 3 buttons when its more to break" philosophy. They want a plain reliable truck that is simple and easy to use which equal outdated. Now I get that, but I still don't see why this 4runner can get a little update on the interior. As a Toyota fan it is kinda disappointing because their bulletproof Landcruiser got an updated interior and that is Toyota's flagship "the most" reliable suv Toyota ever made, so Toyota kind of contradicts itself there. 4runner outdated being reliable yet Landcruiser being updated yet still reliable like a 4runner. Its just I don't have 80k lying around for one. The 4runner should get a small version of the Landcruiser's interior Also in the Lexus line the GX460 is a 4runner but with the 4.6L v8. I don't get why that GX is horribly outdated too and for Lexus. The GX should get a smaller version of the LX570 interior.

I traded-in a 2012 Dodge Durango Crew yesterday for a 2019 4Runner Limited. The Durango was mint condition but not 4WD which I needed. First impression of the 4Runner is truly a no-frills car body on a truck frame. The "bells and whistles" are frankly lame as compared to the older Durango. Example: 4Runner displays idiot lights whereas the Durango display numerical values for temps (oil, coolant), pressures (tire, oil). It appears Toyota tried to minimize features to put their investment into other features. engine? All things considered, the 4Runner will be a nice addition to my fleet of vehicles but only for its drivetrain.

if only they can make it hybrid 4 liter then it will become 25mpg.... perhaps or if not, people will sell their car instantly and go with this.... just immagination

Not a good value. At this price point, it should have power liftgate, pano roof, rain sensing wipers and full led lamps on front & rear.

Thankfully it doesn't have a power liftgate, or a pano roof. Power liftgates are prone to break, and are too slow to open when you need it to open fast (like during a rainstorm). Pano roofs squeak and leak and make for a much louder and hotter interior. Rain sensing wipers are a joke.

damn near 50K??? disappointing... where is all the new technology? where are the LED head lights/ tail-lights ?? Active safety or driver Assistance components? the cluster gauge looks like something for the early 2000's, head unit looks like something you got from best buy. Im sure the 4Runner's power train is amazing... but damn. buy this shit and you step into something that should have come out back in 2003... step up Toyota

We know Toyota is famous for its reliability but to pay a premium price of $45K for a 4 Runner? I thought they only charged a grand or two more for the dependability and reliability. Look like I never going to be able to afford a new Toyota.

It is following in the Toyota Fortuner footsteps... Too much unnecessary chrome or shinny plastics all over the place. Great looking car, I just don't like the chrome.
