2019+ Toyota Rav4 Vanguard Roof Rack Assembly (Prinsu Look-A-Like)

Little late to the party, very helpful video, thank you! Just wanted to comment on assembling the the wind bar/plate before attaching to the rack. The T-Nuts slip in to either end of the bar, so hand fit the nut and bolt to the plate and guide them into the rails and hand tighten them, then attach as a whole to the rack.

Happy to help. I figured! There was nothing out there about this rack. Vanguard has been no help but I made it work on my own and wanted to share. I LOVE THIS RACK! It was worth the little bit of work to make it perfect. It is so quiet now!

@@JamesKlafehn Awesome! I'll probably follow in your footsteps in the next few months. I just picked up a 2019 RAV4 Adventure (Blue with the silver roof) and I'm ready to start the upgrades. Your method is perfect because it's the right mixture of "I wanna save some money" and "I want to add my own spice to this". I believe the adventure requires I remove the stock rails to install, but you made that thing look so good! I've been diving into your other videos after seeing this one. Keep up the good work!

Hey James, you probably already did, but if not, I’d recommend putting a bunch of silicone caulking under the rack and around those screw holes to avoid any leaks down the road. Keep up the good work!

DId you watch the video? This Vanguard roof rack is not like the Prinsu. It does not get bolted through the roof. If you watch the video you can see the brackets. It uses the OEM roof rail mounting location.

Just curious, about your wheels.. I want to add 245/65r17 on my rav4 but I also don’t want really heavy ones.

Paint is a problem if the bolts are stainless steel. Even paint on aluminum is very problematic. I speak from my experience as a marine engineer. How to keep this rack looking good is going to be a fight with how you use it. Try to use just nylon straps through the openings. If you use metal clips on straps, you definitely will have a mess a few years down the road. Use intermediate packing under any strap that bears up against the corners of your extrusions. I know you will want to use the rack, that this is not a garage queen. You can find new socket bolts in McMaster Carr which are treated to be black, which will hold up better than trying to paint the current hardware. Best of luck finishing this one off!

It doesnt include a mount but it does have the opening for a 40" light bar. The mount would come with the light

Why do you want a roof rack like this? Why not just a standard roof rack (ie oem one) And then use a roof box for storage? Would like to hear reason for picking this style of roof rack.

It will be hard to tell exactly. So far after a week of driving it seems as though my new wheels and tires have increased my range a bit because they are lighter. It will be hard to know exactly which accessory is doing what to range now. yes, so far I think it does.
