455/1850 is not "low". Most trucks in the US don't pull over 80,000 lbs gross. That's about the magic number to run that kind of weight up any hill across North America and not dog it. Once you start boosting up hp/torque numbers, the fuel economy hits the toilet. 600+ is only necessary for 150,000lbs gross and up. I drove a 2016 VNL with the same spec D13 and it was a great truck power wise.
