Hate the system, not the player. It's been a while since Gentry knows pretty well how the judge system works. Honestly, I've been a good fan of him for a long time, and even I don't think this freestyle was that amazing. Actually, IMO this is his least interesting worlds freestyle. But for competition, it just works. I'm sure it took a LOT of practice to get to this point, so congrats to him. Gentry certainly went to the stage with the best FS that he could to win. The scoring system has to evaluate something to point a winner, and if this "something" isn't exactly what we would expect to be, it's not Gentry's fault at all.

@funnite55895 жыл бұрын
SayZer0 I was wrong. The first phrase was similar to evan’s comment awhile back, but it’s not a copy. I also personally liked evan’s freestyle better, but I think that’s because it’s super emotional and also the fact that he composed the music for this very performance, making it much more sentimental. But we can’t deny that Gentry worked hard and polished his freestyle since nationals. That’s probably why the score was so close between them. They were all amazing, and dismissing Gentry’s effort is not the right thing to do after an amazing accomplishment.

Evan’s performance was definitely far better but Gentry’s was more flawless and choreographed to perfection. Both in my mind deserved to be world champions but Gentry pulled out this fair and square. Gentry knows the system and that’s why his routine scored just a bit better than Evans. Last year Evan routine was built well to the system and that’s why he won instead of takeshi. It’s the same for Gentry this year. Good luck to Evan in the music business, I hope he finds as much success in music as he did in Yoyos.

Everyone saying "the system needs to be changed" but no one has said how we should change it. add more evals? Lower the overall point value of tech execution? Change some evals? Everyone is saying it needs to change but isnt doing anything to change it and just waiting for someone else to come up with the idea. Than they'll all hate that judging system
@nolsoe945 жыл бұрын
idk, mby ad an extra eval level, evaluating tech execution and freestyle eval for stylistic evaluation. scoring could be like multiplying by 0 through 0.5 something and adding that to the total score, to make it a similar concept to rating an album on a scale from 1 to 5 stars perhaps consider amending the percentage ratio of tech and performance. even slight changes would make for a positive change i thing. like 45% / 55% - i would love to se 50%/50% tho

His yoyo choreography to music is next level. no one has ever been close. and STILL he gets the necessary click count, does tons of new tricks, and checks all the boxes. I love how he gives himself plan B options and pauses to make up for the inevitable misses and drops, that allow him to still nail the choreography to the music and still score points. I was there, in the 3rd row, and we couldn't see how amazing this was. They got it right, even if by only .3 of a point.
@Gentrystein5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much.
@doug6044 жыл бұрын
i'd like to see the scoring system updated so that either clicks or evals, whichever scores better, gets the 60% weighting. maybe have the player choose ahead of time which one they want to get 60%, or opt for 50-50 if they'd prefer. under this system players who want to prioritize clicks could continue to do so, but other styles of play could stand a chance. might even bring some greats back into the competition scene.
@doug6044 жыл бұрын
i do think the evals themselves need tweaking though. body control could be rolled into showmanship and have its points reallocated, for example. seems absurd that those two categories make up 10% of the total score. there are all sorts of things we should try. maybe just tweaking the eval categories would be enough. maybe tweaks and setting it firm at 50-50 clicks-evals would be best. maybe a total reworking of the system with changes to evals and adjustable weighting is the way to go. all i know for sure is a lot of people are very unhappy with the current system and how stagnant it's made the competitive scene feel.
@simondubischar4 жыл бұрын
It's nice to think about stuff like this, but this would completely destroy the contest system. Most of the time innovative players and players with different styles aren't getting enough credits for that in the eval section for this to work, they'd maybe even drop down further. Also, there's already the effect that there are often people competing who are objectively worse than others, those opting out for evals and taking no risks. This gives them very good eval scores (also because Execution and Control are categories), often using zero to no own tricks. This then overcompensates their lack of tech points which results in them beating many stronger players - because most people with a hard trickset do some mistakes more and have more problems to cue their stuff as pecisely. And even though they'd beat the worse player relatively, there's always one good player who hits his stuff, determining the 60.0 mark. This then shrinks the difference in tech so much that it gets smaller than the one in evals, leading to the loss of the better player (an effect of the normalization of tech points. If you competed against somebody else and there's Yuki Nishisako competing too getting 60times more clicks than you two, who of you wins is only determined by evals and not by yoyoing itself. You could just stand there and win). Look at any scoring sheet, this happens - Most of the time, high tech players are on top, then tech is falling and afterwards, the tech scores are rising again for some time. So unfortunately, your rule would increase this effect so much that it wouldn't really make sense to even try to go for tricks. We would see a lot of boring, nearly flawless freestyles and they'd also win, yoyo contests wouldn't contain yoyoing anymore. However, this could be interesting for amateur contests, though
@glow22154 жыл бұрын
@@simondubischar you made no sense meta = bad bangers = good
@simondubischar4 жыл бұрын
@@glow2215 Please read it again. The effect that I describe is that it's already a valid strategy to optimize for evals playing meta and taking no risk. If you would score evals 60% if they're better, this would completely devalue the tech section and give those people opting out for evals another edge over the rest of the field. Thus, easy meta players would be even stronger, so its propably a bad rule change.

Dillon Kermani I think I personally consider OP as people who have won “big” competitions and who continue to place high in them. I say OP mostly as a joke. I didn’t mean for that comment to hate on top competitors because I know they put in hard work and dedication into these performances. I honestly just don’t like seeing people win more than once, but that’s because I like underdog stories (and it keeps things interesting).
