If you aren't visually sight fishing for a bass, its legal if they aren't in the mouth. Some states like California don't allow it even if its not during the spawn.

Only when sight fishing. You can foul hook them if your not looking at them to catch them but if you are sight/bed fishing, they must be hooked inside the mouth or released if not

Bassmaster needs to allow anglers to use nets and penalize boat flipped fish that crash on the floor. All this talk about conservation and catch & release doesn't coincide with the way BASS anglers care for fish.

You're right! These shows are seen by too many people and they will do the same out in the nature. I know tournaments where using a net is mandatory for any fish. Lifting it up means 10 minutes penalty. A breaking leader means some points being cut from your result. That's the way to get fishing as a sport and preserving the natural resources and having some respect for these creatures together.
