2020 Ford F-250 Tremor 7.3 Transmission Knocking

Transmission knocking on a 2020 Ford F250 Lariat Tremor 7.3 gas engine with 10R140 10 speed Transmission and 4:30 gears. Build date 08/20.

I had the same issue with my truck and had one of the transmission engineers come out to verify the noise. They ended up changing the transmission and took it back to the engineering department to try to find out where it's coming from. The diesel have slightly different components inside I was told and that's why none have the problem. I will post back here if I ever get any news what the problem was.

Well thats an interesting revelation. What was the build date on your truck if you don't mind my asking? Was your noise indentical to what you are hearing in this video? Was the new transmission any better? Thanks

Complete identical. It was louder when it was fully wormed up. In park and at idle. No other time. Build date was 1/20 it says on the door. I have not driven it much after the new transmission cause I bought me a 2015 powerstroke. Everything else ran great with it but it would make that noise in park.

@@mariobrothers8348 My understanding is that some of the early builds had bad transmissions and your build date seems like it would be within that range. Perhaps thats why they gave you a new one? Mine rarely ever knocks and it runs strong and like you said only does it in park. I have a 8/20 build. I'm not to worried about it but its certainly noteworthy. Any input is appreciated.

Mine does the same. Took it to dealer and they said its normal. I call bullshit.

I hear ya... its doubtful that the engineer thought these trucks would be more appealing with knocking and whining sounds coming from the transmission. Mines at the dealer now.

And you’re right to call bullshit I went back-and-forth with them for five months they finally put in a new torque converter a couple weeks ago seems to have fixed it

My 2020 makes identical sounds and it had the torque converter done at 6k, currently has 16k.

I have a 2020 tremor in the shop currently for a similar problem. The knocking noise comes from some bolts coming in contact with the inspection plate. The noise was only present in park. They bent the inspection plate and the knock is gone. If you have the noise in drive/reverse it’s coming from a chain driven variable speed oil pump in the transmission. However, mine is also getting a new torque converter and valve body for a safety bulletin repair. The valve body/torque converter resulted in some rough shifting and lurching when put in gear.

I have almost 30k on my 2020 F350. Mine has made the same noise Intermittently since the day I drove it home from the dealer. Doesn’t make any sense to me it makes that noise in park and it’s not all the time.

I drive around with 2000lbs worth of tools and a welder in my bed every day and definitely do not baby it when it comes to the throttle and hard shifts.

My 21 makes this noise also...and jerks backward when starting cold...like in reverse for a spit second...anyone come up with 100 percent fix or reason for this? Mine made noise since 25 miles...25k on it now and still does it in park only at idle...after it warms up some......

I had the same issue my truck was built January 14, 2020 they put a new torque converter in a couple weeks ago seems to have fixed it time will tell

Hmm ill have to check my 7.3 out. Ive never noticed a knock while in park, 11k miles, and its towed a loaded Uhaul across the country days after we bought it and had multiple loads of 3000 lbs of gravel recently. I don't have the tremor package though, wonder if that makes a difference

I still have faith in it and love it otherwise but the 6 speed is likely the safer choice. We'll find out soon...

No updates.. still knocks from time to time but not always. Actually it doesn't do it very often. I have yet to hear someone with a diesel with any 10 speed problems.

I’ve got the 2021 with 100 miles on it and have the same noise but not quite as loud

Mine had the dreaded 10 speed whine at 12 miles and just started knocking at around 3500 (atleast I think). I think the phone video amplified the knock a bit. Doesnt seem as loud in person. There seems to be more than just a few with this problem...

Dealer says could not duplicate but have not heard the knocking since taking it in. Truck still runs like a beast though.
