1: The 1.5L engine is fine around town and easily keeps up with the slow drivers around you. I know people say you need 250, 350, 500... HP, but that's for highway passing, freeway onramps, and 0-60 times. Around town, your limiting factor will always be that Prius in front of you. I found that it drives exactly as fast as it needs to, thanks to the reverse mapped turbo (power is generated at low rpms and eases off, similar to Ford's Ecoboost) and almost CVT smooth 9 speed. The 9 speed is also designed for GM's much larger engines and vehicles, so while reliability is OK, with it being stressed half as much, it should be very reliable. Excess torque and weight you are hauling/towing is what kills transmissions. GMC Traverse: 4362lbs, 310hp/266lb-ft@3400rpm GMC Terrain: 3449lbs, 170hp/203lb-ft@2000prm - same transmission? This is definitely a case of getting a higher level gearbox in a smaller vehicle. win-win. The Traverse also says it can tow 5000lbs while the Terrain says 1500lbs(?) 99% of Terrain drivers are never going to stress this gearbox enough to fail. 2: The 9 speed does make it much quicker and is mapped to keep you in your turbo range as much as possible. Driving it feels like a small turbo diesel. The Equinox is chunky you feel the shifts a lot more. In my testing, it was immediately apparent which was quicker and more agile. The Chevy with the 6 speed/1.5L felt rental MEH, the GMC felt like you dropped a manual in it - an instant 5-10% more power at all times due to the extra gears and better mapping. The transmission is the real reason to get the Terrain over the Equinox. My impression of it was that of a bulldog. Small, brick-like, and pulls you around. No excitement, just gets the job done with almost linear power delivery and loads of torque for such a small engine. 3: Great features like the cargo cover fits under the rear floor in a holder, the front seat folds down, and the radar cruise control is spooky good - almost Audi levels. Out of a GM??? The downside is 2/3 of the tech was standard on the 2020 models (had to buy a $600 safety package) but is all now standard on the 2021s. So used, higher trim 2020 or any model 2021. 2019 was still missing a lot of the safety tech and should be avoided. 4: Ride. The ride is Buick soft. Driving the CRV felt bouncy, and the seats were god-awful in the Ford. 1600 mile road trip in two days and no back pain.

My friend got this car and lets me borrow it often and I fell in love with it automatically. I have never thought about getting a GMC Terrain before that, and now I want one. Upon further research, this video included, it seems like an amazing car for me! I was set on getting a Honda CR-V, but I'm all for GMC now! I can't wait to get this SUV!

@@dfjsdz 1600 mile road trip to Texas in two days and was able to walk around at the end versus a day on my back recovering. Soft enough, supportive enough, won't beat you up too much on long drives. Solid 6-7 out of 10. ( most of GM is a 2-3 by comparison )

Definitely in the market for this vehicle. The exterior & interior looks good. And I heard the 2.0L engine has 252 horsepower. Which sounds ample enough. To drive the way I drive.

I own the 2019 terrain with the turbo Diesel engine option and I love it, gets pretty good mpg with it! I was really disappointed when I learn that GMC was going away with the Diesel engine option after 2019, cause my wife wanted one but I guess we will have to go a little bigger like 2021 Yukon at4 model that has the diesel option!

Rick C You will find it very difficult to find the perfect vehicle. If you like this vehicle (except for push button knobs) , go ahead anyhow and lease it, you’re not buying it. I do feel the same as you but I think you will not miss the traditional stick and knob. I’be got this on my list as an option to lease as well. The vehicle offers so much value to compensate for the loss of the stick and knob.

The rear side windows look kinda small. Are there blind spots?
@plektosgaming
@plektosgaming 3 жыл бұрын
The blind spot/active 360 degree radar is a must. And it really works well. It even alerts you to vehicles that approach rapidly or tailgate you suddenly - so it's not just the front and sides while driving. That said, your mirrors on the side should always be pointed at your blind spots. They could be larger, but the two systems together make maneuvering almost (truly) idiot-proof.

Jeeps are basically FIATS, I have the 2020 GMC Terrain, I like it but they are made in MEXICO,GM is all about the profit,not fixing problems. I have the small Turbo- don't think that's a good thing. Wish I would have bought an Acura or Lexus. I was trying to be THRIFTY ! In the end I think I will basically be buying 2 Terrains VS 1 Acura or Lexus.

I dislike that Nissan Murano rear panel with useless window. And that shift lever must eat the cake for worst way to change transmission modes in any car. I just can’t see any one buying this in place of a RAV-4 or CRV. Even the interior black on black looks such a sad place. So sad GM.
@TheTestDrive
@TheTestDrive 4 жыл бұрын
I agree the shift buttons are the worst idea they could’ve possibly come up with. I’ve driven the new RAV and while I like it a lot, especially with the hybrid that gets 40mpg combined, the Terrain feels more refined and has a nicer ride. But Toyota and Honda sell a ton more RAVs and CRVs than GM sells Terrains - it’s not even close!

@@nic-li7rh I love the "Bulldog" looks of the Terrain. It is good, agile, and a perfect more utilitarian alternative to the bland CR-V and pricey RAV-4. You get used to the button shifter as quickly as you do in a video game. Put it in drive, forget about it.
