Definitely well equipped for a stock unit. Could have been from an order that fell through, which would explain some of the upgrades. If you're going through the IC dealer for your aftermarket A/C, you might end up with TransAir units, which is what IC uses (just rebranded under their own name). Should look and operate identically to your factory-ordered bus.

Nice looking bus, Adam! I love the International IC CE's. I used to have a 2012 International IC CE (Bus 39). Bus 39 had a MaxxForce DT Engine in it and was a 78 Passenger Bus. I have had many 2010/2011/2012 International IC CE's for field trips and things before.

This transportation company has made a substantial investment in new equipment. They must be doing well. I have a 2009 IC and love it. It has the steering wheel controls for the 8-ways and push button drive for the transmission. I notice on these new Internationals the crossover mirror brackets block the fender-mounted turn signal lamps. That being said I wouldn't kick it out of the bus lot! International makes the best bus. I remember them all the way back in the 50s. They were always the best. I see you have some older models in your fleet as well. Nice to keep them going.

As a student in Canada, a few things I notice are the 8 ways are still on the wheel. I’ve ridden on a handful of these with a maxxforce 6.4 but they’re getting phased out because of various rules. In 2015, my area upgraded to a fleet of Blue Birds, with Cummins engines, but transmissions like to go out it seems. In Ontario the 8 ways are different, where they’re all red, the inside two lights alternate the flash from side to side until the door is opened, then the outside ones kick in. No fancy strobe action from side to side as you see. That’s a nice bus, thanks for sharing

If you would just get a bus without a hood then you wouldn’t have the shaky crossover mirrors. As for the A/C, I got a quote from the place that does all the work for my Thomas dealer. Their system with 2 underbody condensers and a front/rear bulkhead evaporator setup was around $10,000. I figured by the time we were done (I know the alternator will have to be swapped to a bigger one and I wanted the digital thermostat plus unforeseen expense) around $12k to $14k by the time it was finished.

Love your videos; you are living the dream! I'm going to become a school bus driver in the coming weeks and am currently deciding on a company or school district. I know you've had experience with all three manufacturers (more so Thomas & IC) and have knowledge of the pros and cons of each. I have a few questions for you: 1. Would you factor in school bus manufacturer when deciding on a place to drive? 2. Being a first-time driver and CDL learner, do you prefer/recommend one bus make over another from a driver's/ease of use perspective? 3. In a mixed fleet would it be wrong to request to drive a specific make? P.S. I have been a "bus nut" since I was a kid and it all started with an International Thomas. I also rode IC's through most of K-12, so I am a little partial to International.
@SwannBus5 жыл бұрын
Ryan Snyder I’ll try to answer your questions. Drivers are in demand so you’ve got a little latitude with perspective companies to make a small request. I too grow up on Internationals/ICs and am partial. ICs can be very different depending on the specs of its construction. I think IC makes the best bus IF you choose dozens of essential (IMO) items. If not, you get an average bus (75%). I think Bluebird makes the best “basic” bus. I’d put Thomas somewhere between a loaded IC and a base BB. As for which is easier to driver? All the drivers seem to prefer the Thomas C2 when given a choice, again assuming the specs are low, which most companies are. I say make it known that you’d like to sample all the buses and go from there. Just remember, senior drivers get the most preferences. Glad your joining the fold and thanks again for watching!

MD state spec with the 8 ways on the right side of dash and not on the wheel is a blessing in disguise, you want your drivers to at least glance over at the service door exit to make sure no kids are tripped or caught in door way, drivers need more interaction not less if on wheel they get too laxy daisy for lack of better term, also our state spec makes us apply parking brakes when debarking kids, yes I replace our brake chambers yearly they wear out power spring if you dont.

When looking at the side profile of the bus, the skirt is how far the side of the body comes down to meet the horizontal line from the service door. When there is no skirt you'll see that line move up and you'll also be able to see beneath the bus. An extended skirt (which varies in length) will bring the body line closer to the line on the service door increasing the total side profile of the bus.

@SwannBus5 жыл бұрын
Landon Varner interesting perspective. I’ll share it with the factory on my tour. Having the door switch directly above the ignition key has often resulted in drivers turning off the bus during the stop, mistaking it for the door switch. My 03’s have the 8-ways on the right and the door switch on the left. I prefer that configuration.

You're supposed to drain the air tanks every day 😂 my service truck (08 international 4300 w/ maxxforce 7) drops to 75 psi or so overnight in the #1 tank which supplies the air suspension

Adam D well it does make sense. You got to pull the parking brake on anyway (or you are supposed to anyway) when picking/dropping off kids , you might just as open the door/close the door to in the same manor. I never like the crap on the wheel. Never know why they chose to do that.

Will do when mine arrive, however I can tell you there are three compressors. Interesting because you’d think a larger single unit would be more efficient.
