very inspiring speech. Only one minor problem, English is actually one of the mandatory courses in Chinese high schools and it is also taught in state-owned high schools. The reason why English is extremely popular is mainly for 2 reasons. One, of course, is for Gao Kao and English is mandatory. The other is the preparation for studying abroad. In fact, New Oriental was founded for tapping into the Study-abroad-English market before diversifying into GaoKao and other markets.
