Hi. I’m considering 2019 and 2020 models. What would you choose? 2019 kia hybrid SX Touring with 35 000 km for $28000 or 2020 EX Premium with the same mileage for $30000?

@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 4 жыл бұрын
I don't like to tell people how to spend their money. I generally explain the features and let people decide for themselves if one car makes sense more than the other. If money is not an issue, then I would say go for the PHEV, it's a better hybrid, but it also gives you the ability to get pure electric range by plugging in. As far as the payback of fuel savings, I'll let you do the math to see if that works for you. In some Canadian provinces, the government incentives on a PHEV make the PHEV a much better value than the Hybrid. So it really depends on the situation.

My 2019 has most of the features shown in the SX. In the USA we don't get any of those features, no front and rear parking sensors, etc. Main problem my 2019 is IIHS Top Safety Pick + . Now I can get 2020 Niro with some of the features I have now but it is no longer a IIHS Safety Pick (at all}. They don't show it but a Touring might pass for headlights with fewer features than I have now but the loaded EX Premium with most of the features on my 2019 Touring has halogen headlights, which are rated poor and would nor pass the IIHS tests at all.. Unless KIA USA does some serious upgrades in 2021 or 2022 when the Niro gets a full redesign an adds the features on my 2019 Touring (SX in Canada) when my lease is up in 2021, I am going to buy the car as I don't think KIA USA really wants to sell a another Niro in the US. Why buy a Niro that wont be a Top Safety Pick or Pick +. If Canada keeps all the features, if I could I would buy a Canadian model Niro rather than a featureless US model. Too bad as I love my Niro. My 2019 Touring cane with a spare tire and jack. Like the SX shown.

I think the IIHS ratings will drive Kia USA to consider modifying their options, but that's just my opinion.

Great video, great explainations, but why is there no spare tire?
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 4 жыл бұрын
Haha. Thanks for your kind words, and you ask a great question. The lack of a spare tire is an industry-wide move in smaller vehicles, or vehicles aimed at efficiency. It's not just Kia. The reasoning that they give is because it helps with fuel efficiency, I'm sure it also cuts costs for the manufacturer. In most cases with Kia, you can still get a spare tire kit installed at the time of purchase. It's not something that I'm a big fan of, but it's a trend that is here to stay, I think.

I bought the 2019 SX Touring in February. It has a spare tire and jack under the foam tray that Peter shows under the trunk floor. The 2020 Niro SX Touring shows a spare in the specs, all lower trims have the tire mobility kit.

@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 жыл бұрын
Ummmm... different, is probably a better answer. They're certainly similar, this is bigger than the Seltos and smaller than the Sorento, and the Sportage fits that description as well. To compare the size you may want to see if you can see one in person at your dealer. They're similar sized, but different in where one is roomy compared to the other.
@Geebvs
@Geebvs 3 жыл бұрын
Niro is a more crossover alternative to "SUV-y" Seltos, both slot between Soul and Sportage and both are relatively smaller than Sportage. BTW, Sportage soon receives new generation, which for North American markets will be even bigger, somewhere above 4,5 metres. Niro is only 4,3 metres length ;)
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 жыл бұрын
@@Geebvs We haven't received official information on the Sportage yet, but the rumours sound interesting! The rumours say that there will be 2 different lengths, but nothing has been confirmed on that, so I have to wait until I see official information before I can comment.

@@BrantfordKia Of course, it's funny actually how late car producers are providing some details about upcoming cars to the dealers sometimes. In my country, Poland, I went to Hyundai dealer 2 months ago to ask about new Elantra you already have in Canada. They said this car won't be available in Europe anymore, yesterday I visited Hyundai official website and here I am - New Elantra appeared on lineup :) BTW Coming back to Sportage once again - it's probably going to be like in New Tucson's case, which in LWB variants is available in North America or Australia and SWB in Europe, South Korea etc., separately, no choice. We'll see anyway, looking forward your review on this car later this year I believe :)

As a subaru legacy and outback owner and driven a crosstrek, ascent as well as been in the back of a forester, Im a huge fan of the subaru brand. I love my legacy 3.6r but im strongly considering a crosstrek sport or a used ascent premium as my next car. Btw subarus are REALLY cheap to own. They hold their value so you can buy a 2-3 year old one where depreciation is highest and sell it after its 10 years old and still have a lot of value to it. Or keep it till 200k+ because they easily get there. Their insurance is pretty much cheaper than the competition. I have compared my legacy to many other cars and crossover and i have only found a few where insurance was cheaper. I have had 0 failures on my car at 9 years old. I have had maintenance but no major components fail. Also a lot of dealers i have been to will loan you a car when you are getting maintenance done. The only downside is the fuel economy. The CVT is a better option in the long run vs a dual clutch. Dual clutches are horrible in stop and go driving( slowly crawling shreds gears in a dual clutch) and a dual clutch is just as expensive to replace as a cvt. All that being said, i would buy a kia if subaru was not an option. Im a huge fan of the stinger and k5, and i would certainly consider mazda as well. Mazda has kind of taken the trophy for reliability. Beating out toyota and honda. Mazdas usually handle better which in my mind transfers to safety, they usually have more power and don't compromise on efficiency. Just my thoughts, i do TONs of research on cars everyday. Its kind of my hobby

@@Hallowsaw A few quick points as I read this at home in my living room, and I've got family to spend time with instead of responding to comments... 1. The Niro's fuel use could easily make up for any differences in resale value. 2 In Canada, most Kia's are among the least expensive vehicles to insure compared to cars in their class. 3. The Niro was once called Consumer Reports most reliable car. That study is a scientific study, not just one person's opinion. 4. Our dealership will also loan you a car, we also offer a Valet service for our service customers where we pick up your car from your home, perform the service or maintenance, then return your car to you. This has been really popular during Covid. 4. There have been bad dual clutches out there for sure (hello Ford Fiesta and focus!) But I think you'll find that both the drivability and reliability of the Niro's transmission to be top notch. Hopefully that helps advance this conversation. 🙂👍

Switching to red turn signals was a mistake. The lower trims pre-facelift also had red signals instead of the amber turn signals of the EX Premium in the US. I don't understand why they decided the North American market are peasants with cheaper, less safe lights when the rest of the world all get the same LED tail lights with amber turn signals. I feel like they wasted money designing a new assembly when they could've used the same one. Even worse is that the 2020 overseas models use the exact same tail light with the turn signals tinted amber. They tinted it red for North America for no reason. Literally the only redeeming quality is that it's a separate bulb, not shared with the tail lights or brake light.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is true, but I've heard that Americans vastly prefer red signal lights over amber ones. I agree with you, I prefer the amber ones, but it could come down to their market research suggesting that this is what people want.

Yeah, it's never going to be a stand out when it comes to styling, but I think that appeals to some of the Niro buyers. Something like a Prius is very polarizing, where this car probably draws less attention, but gives it's owners a much richer interior, with better ergonomics.
@jamesf791
@jamesf791 4 жыл бұрын
I personally bought mine and one of the reasons was cause it looked bland. I don't people to think I'm smug. I want to look like I'm driving a normal looking car, but I want to help save the environment while saving money and time from going to the gas station. The only thing I will have to say, is the Prius V which is discontinued, has more trunk space. Though it's way more comfortable in the back seat. My father has a Prius V and I have a Kia Niro and we both agree that the Niro is the better car. Plus who can beat the 10 year/100k mile warranty?
