Put in-----------Sheffield, Texas
Take out-------Pandale, Texas Bridge
Water flow was 91cfs......needs to be about
120cfs-140cfs to keep from dragging the
kayaks. We had 2 wounded boats after this trip.
Thanks To Barry Black and Clay Graves for hauling us all over Texas!

The upper Pecos is nothing like the lower, but was still pretty fun and easy.

@@KTDELRUS You mean the water starts off kind of dirty & gets clearer as you go down river? Looks like there would be some pretty good rapids if the river was up a little more.

@@brettsoyars4341 I mean the upper is not as technical and safer, it's two totally different trips.

Sorry you had camera issues - but what you got is great stuff - I put this vid that ends at Pandale with the one of your 2012 trip that started at Pandale and I get a good travelogue of the whole river. Thanks for posting these videos! 👍🏼

Thanks man, coming from a kayak fisherman that has great videos of the Devils River, that's greatly appreciated! Is that a JK Coosa your in on your videos?

@@KTDELRUS 🙌🏻...man I’m not sure which video you referring to? It’s probably a Jackson coosa OG, HD or a mayfly. Those are just about the only boats I run.

@@ikethefishinggringo9731 We run the Preception Pescador because they are easiest to replace after those Pecos River trips. If I knew a JK would last for 10+ trips I'd invest the money, I really do like the JK's

About how wounded did the yaks get?
@KTDELRUS
@KTDELRUS 3 жыл бұрын
Both kayaks that got hurt had been on previous Devils river and Pecos river trips, I'd say a Perception Pescador kayak will last about 4 trips down the Pecos. The weak spot on those is in the center between the center scupper holes. Take some extra roto molded plastic scraps so you can melt it back into place for emergency repairs.

How many miles is it down river from Sheffield to Pan Dale?
@KTDELRUS
@KTDELRUS 3 жыл бұрын
49 miles, We put in east of Sheffield on some private property. There really isn't any technical water to deal with either. Its a pretty easy trip. I'd say novice level. 49 miles to the Bridge, we got out on the east side of the bridge.

@@KTDELRUS I have thought about doing this run before. If its 49 miles from Sheffield then it would have to be 100 miles to the highway 90 high bridge. I've heard its a 60 mile float from Pan dale.

@@brettsoyars4341 Correct, and if you get hurt there are plenty of houses to seek refuge at from Sheffield to Pandale, but from Pandale to the High bridge you have way more technical water plus hardly any houses or people to help you in an emergency. Just be aware the lower half of the Pecos is a whole different ball game!

Remember to take some extra plastic pieces with you so you can use either a campfire or your cooking stove to heat up a flathead screwdriver and that way you can melt new plastic in on your kayak if you happen to puncture a hole in it. The water is so hard that it has formed coral like features on the rocks and they eat up the kayak. Wear tennis shoes not water shoes or crocs!
