The fun fact is nobody believed EVs to be that much fast and to have that much range. Mr. Musk really changed the world's vision to EVs. And the whole automotive arena is getting convinced about the electric motors. So automotive electrification is happening rapidly by the top manufacturers. Tesla is in a deal with AT&T for Internet connectivity from 2014. Which allows every car to connect to the GPS and other basic networking features via pre-installed two SIMs in the vehicle. Moreover, the service updates with time. If the vehicle faces any connection lost even then offline services remain functional.

GPS is not internet dependant. It can function independently while all the coordinates are uploaded and the maps are already incorporated to memory. It uses multiple sensors and geo tagging to pin point the location of car and tracks motion also

GPS is always being updated when connected to any nearby WiFi. This feature is also available on offline Google Maps. How ever, it wont show you traffic details and newly constructed roads unless the software is updated. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

the map data is cached in the car. that is why the GPS is working. But without the connectivity, it can not load a new map(new location) and you can't use the traffic update.

GPS is a satellite based network system it doesn't need any internet connection. If you pre-download the map it'll give you coordinates and you can track on the map using those coordinates.Thats also how the offline function of the google maps works.

sir , even on your smartphones gps doesn’t need internet after download then map data. you can try. the gps system works directly with your device to gps 🛰 satellite. multiple navigation satellite uses for real time location on your device . & it’s doesn’t need any internet just very first time you need to download the map .

That is absolutely correct. Let's consider the distance between Dhaka to Chittagong is 300kms and this particular model 3 does 500kms range total. So if you make this trip to Chittagong you won't get the specified range due to a lot of reasons - weather, weight, heat and cold temperature all these play a great role in maintaining a suitable range. Now, since you've got this electric vehicle and you're looking to make a round trip without stopping, back to Dhaka, it's absolutely impossible to make it back to Dhaka due to the lack of charging stations or, unless you could have somebody give you a tow for a few kilometres as your vehicle starts to regen the kinetic energy. Long story short, it's completely futile to purchase a tesla in our country right now. You're gonna have to wait couple years for the government or some companies to actually install a charging station, at least one.

Gps can work without internet even in smartphone. I always use this service while travelling. You just have to download the part of the map so you can access offline. Tesla maight be downloaded the map inside the hard drive of the car. It's a common feature even in lower class smart phones. So you made a common feature seem overthetop.

GPS (Global Positioning System) doesn't need the internet to operate. It can find our location by satellite. There are almost GPS 30 satellites. GPS module needs to connect with at least 4 satellites to find our location. Even our phone (smartphone) has a GPS module. We can see our location via Google Maps without the internet. Maybe the GPS module used in Tesla is very good and powerful. That's why it is giving such accurate results.

GPS uses satellites, no internet is required. For a test , try turning off your mobile internet but your google map will still show your location if your gps is activated.

GPS chip can get signal from the GPS satellites so if the map is already needed then all it's doing is getting the position from GPS satellites and positioning itself in the map. iPhone can also do this. try the Sygic GPS app and it will show you turn by turn driving direction without internet.

Since a lot of people has said how the GPS works, I will add a little more. The kind of GPS that works well with internet connection is A-GPS or assisted GPS. In which case, the GPS system uses internet to enhance the GPS positioning. However, GPS chips installed in our mobile works by receiving signals from GPS satellite flying over us. It requires at least 3 GPS satellites to pin point a location, the method is called triangulation, which gives us a co-ordinate point on the map known as latitude and longitude, which being fed into the mapping software shows us our location on map. I love you TESLA. I wish our government promotes electric cars and and saves us from paying hefty taxes on them. These are good for our environment in terms of driving it. Except the fact that electricity production technique in our country are not completely green and are not reliant on renewable energy.
