Pound for pound, I believe the 20 horse merc/tohatsu is the best value on the market right now.

@@commonsensesolutions6662 I absolutely love mine. I ordered a 4 blade sola Amita aluminum prop for it, today, I’m hoping it will give me more power in the shallow waters. I may get a river runner Macs slag gaurd for it too.

@@godslittleman5451 I run quite frequently in shallow water across oyster beds and rocks and such mine starting to look a little scratched up. my last motor I put a really nice stainless steel skeg guard on that I was really happy with I might need to look into that one you mentioned. Let me know how it works out installed.

I just picked up my boat friday having it re-powered with a new Tohatsu MSF115A and took it out today. After 15-20 minutes I was headed back in with a grinding noise coming from the motor. Got it back up on my trailer and found the installer either put a wrong size propeller on and or didn't put the Thrust Washer on the shaft. The Propeller was grinding into the lower unit and both the propeller and lower unit housing are eaten up. I am more than pissed off to the point of the fact that the motor hasn't even been broke in and such stress was put on it that I'm thinking I'm going to demand they replace the motor with a new one or replace it with another dealer and take them to Court to get my money back for the motor and install. I'm just really uneasy about letting them fix the motor as much internal stress that the grinding sounded like it was causing the motor.

Man, that sucks. I hope it all works out for you. This is a great motor.

I see that there is no shear pin on this assembly. Its that what the rubber is for, to give way if you hit something?
@commonsensesolutions6662 Жыл бұрын
Yes, this style has a rubber hub insert that provides some give.

Hey, great video. What hardware store did you purchase your split pin? And it's the 3mm by 22mm? Thanks in advance.

Thanks! I bought them at Ace Hardware. I wrote down the size and will check it for you when I’m home and post an update.

@@fishingistherapy the ones I buy for this motor are 3/32x1” SS.
Great videos! We are about to buy a boat with that engine already installed on it. What stabilizer do you have installed on that motor? Thanks

Thanks!! I went with the SE Sport 200. After researching all of the options, the SE seemed to be the one with the least drag based on reviews. No matter how I set the motor or distributed weight I felt the bow just ran too high for my liking (maybe from the mod-v hull??) so I wanted something to lift the rear up a bit, it worked. The rear rides a bit higher and with the same settings did not cause any loss of top end speed. Instantly pops on plane and stays at low speeds. On plane, I can go through some really skinny water now. It’s a Lowe 1448M. I’ll do a boat tour soon and more on the engine. Thanks again for watching!

I'd love to see a video just about the stabilizer. I have a 9.8 on a 12' v-hull and I'm considering that exact one.

@@luketheisen3239 I hope to do one soon. I just uploaded a Speed Test vid today and I talk a little about it. I wanted to point out to watch when I gun it in the video, the bow barely rises. Before I installed it, there was too much rise no matter how I adjusted the tilt. Thanks for watching

@@Cutlass_Rudd From some of the responses I’ve seen from other people on my videos it’s anyone’s guess. Most likely it will be a 10 or an 11. But like I’ve said before there’s nothing wrong with having a few extra props and a spare on board. When you do get it let me know what it comes with I’m also curious. I just bought an eight and I’m going to try to pull my kids on a tube this weekend. I will start out with the 10 and if it isn’t enough I’ll pop on the 8. If you do end up having to buy more props I highly recommend Solas Amita 3 aluminum. They are affordable and perform as well as OEM or better.
@Cutlass_Rudd3 жыл бұрын
@@commonsensesolutions6662 Thanks and I will let you know what it shows up with, but just so I have an idea - if this thing hits the rev limiter out of the box what would you recommend (or at least which direction in size) and I was just looking at Solas props - very affordable
@commonsensesolutions66623 жыл бұрын
@@Cutlass_Rudd The basic rule is that every one degree of pitch is worth about 200rpm. The range you are targeting is 5400-6100 on that motor when cruising wide open, ideally somewhere in the middle. So if you are at 6200rpm, going up from 10 to an 11 should get you down around 6000. It takes some experimenting. Going up in pitch lowers rpm.
@wacpickleball3 жыл бұрын
Great video. Where did you get the prop? My Tohatsu 20E came with 11.5p stock and I'm thinking of getting a 10p. With 2 people it WOT at around 5400-5500 so with a 10p I should get around 5700 within max range. I'm getting around 20-21 mph with it so would I loose a few mph with the 10?

I just search online for the best deal. Last time was Deep Blue Yacht Supply. Top speed didn’t change much at all. 👍🏻
