Much respect for Overlanders that have made it to the Top of the World! I'll be driving up there from Florida in July. I drive a 2004 Jeep TJ on 33's. Hopefully I won't have any issues. Since it will be a little over 2000 miles back home, I may have to use the bypasses on some of obstacles so I don't break anything. Hahahaha!
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 3 жыл бұрын
It is a kick in the ass for sure. Especially after driving cross country. The only bypass is on the big obstacle coming up. The down is where the real challenge begins. The obstacles are a lot more plentiful and the easiest way isn’t always easy. Go slow and use a spotter, and remember to have fun when you still there past dark!!!😂😂😂😂😂

Awesome video. Thank you. I am considering doing that trail in May in my 4Runner TRD Pro with 33’s, but was thinking about doing only the first half of the lollipop and then going back out the same way. It looks like the second half of the lollipop is much harder.

Man, I haven’t been to Moab in a long time. My XJ on 33s with front and rear lockers, 4:1 t case and no sway bars had absolutely no issues out there. That’s definitely a really fun place to go! Now I’ve got a 2019 TRD OR just like yours, mine is completely stock except for 265s and a camper shell. Man I really like 35s on these things! Part of me REALLY wants to modify my truck for this but part of me loves it stock. I was actually pretty impressed what it could do stock, avoiding body damage is the limiting factor for sure. It’s nice to see a relatively simple build just go out and get used. Everyone has their own idea of what’s ideal but man, some of these “overland” rigs are just too much! It’s more like “overloading”, way too much crap and unnecessary gear just for a 72 hour weekend trip.
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. The trucks are totally capable stock but you are right. Body damage and getting stuck will kill a trip. The Tacoma is above getting to amazing places to have amazing adventures. I definitely have more planned but it’s all needed, winch bumper for self recovery, rear bumper to carry a full size spare tire, more lighting because it sucks not being able to navigate trails at night. People can defy go overboard but I’m hoping not to. Thanks for watching. Definitely take your Tacoma out and just do some trails with it. It is an Off Rod after all...hahaha!!!
@ThebiggestBigAL
@ThebiggestBigAL 3 жыл бұрын
You should check out the Marlin Crawler suspension, that things crazy for an IFS truck. Nothing flexes and has traction like solid axles but man their white Taco on 37s it’s awesome. I love just being able to cruise 80 in my Taco and it gets the job done. It’s the perfect family car and does better than most 4x4s so I’m super happy. You guys should run the Rubicon, I don’t think you’ll have too many issues with your truck on 35s but you’d definitely have to pick good lines. Man, now I want to build my truck.

Did that trail back in Sept on my 2wd 05 Polaris Predator. I'd say I spent less than 3 hours on it, including at the Top. But unfortunately for me, that was when the stay at Moab went south on weather and was cloudy and misting. So I could barely see the bottom of the cliff face and most of my ride I was barely able to see 300-400 feet. Did bend one of my A-arms jumping off a 3 foot ledge and hit a rock under full suspension compression. Didnt spot it until I was strapping my quad on the trailer, but I knew I hit hard when I came down

You are correct about Top of the World not being what people say it is. The first time I ran it in 2008 I had 31s on my XJ and it was super easy. Really all the trail was about was the view. Ran it again in 2019 with 33s, locked, 4.5" lift (XJ only has 101" wheelbase) and it was totally different. Much harder, it has really gotten torn up. So if someone says it's easy, ask them when they drove it last and what they were driving.

Thank you very much. It is a hard track with your rig. Trevor slid on his skid plates a lot to get through with 33” tires. If you go with someone that knows the track I would say yes. Thanks so much. I basically only cut what I had to. I drove around with a razor knife in my pocket. When I would hear rubbing I would go look for a scrape mark and just trim that piece. I follow your build on IG and T4R. You'll be fine. I ran this same trail 2 years ago solo, spotting myself and made it up just fine. I had a 2-2.5" Icon lift, 32.8" tires, and stock bumpers. Group of 10 fully built Jeeps in front of me did the trail a lot quicker than I did since I spotted myself but I made it up none-the-less. They were surprised my slightly built 4R made it up there.
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 3 жыл бұрын
Trevor is running the Ironman 4x4 Stage 2 Foam Cell Pro and has about 2-2.5” of lift out of it. We just recently adjusted the kit to give him 3”. Trevor also has full aluminum skid plates underneath from Victory 4x4. He definitely dragged across his skid plates a lot on Top Of The World. The most challenging part of the trail is after the scenic overlook. I wouldn’t want to come down that spotting yourself.
