A great review What Car (Rebecca) of the VW Amarok. Its good to see vehicles that wouldn't be the norm that people would by other than business. I Didn't real want put this in the comment as it is a What Car video but as everyone else has comment and really wanted to say congratulations to Rebecca and to her other half. Very nice, great chassis, looks great on outside, and the Amarok aint bad either lol. Great review, not great fuel consumption , but if its a workhorse, all well and good.

This pickup’s main errands is fill up the rear with groceries. The people who really needs one cannot afford it. There are upscale Ford pick up models here in the US that costs as much as $120k.

my builder son here in Sydney has the original 2 litre diesel version. He bought it in October 2013 and, though the lease has long finished, he's decided to put off buying a new car because this has been ultra reliable. It has cost him virtually nothing in repairs and now costs him only running costs.

Surely the type of people who buys this type of vehicle for commercial use need reliability, dependability and low running costs. This is far too expensive, far too complicated and surely won't retain it's value as most commercial people have the sense to buy a vehicle suited to a tough life. VW is no longer the sign of reliability it is a premium badge for those who don't mind wasting money to get the latest gadgets. Also it is hideous and looks much less appealling than many of its rivals. I'd be surprised if this does well, the Japanese options are far better designed for their target audience. If a business I'd employed drove up in this I'd think I was paying too much for their services or would worry about their competence. It would be like calling for a taxi and a Fiat 500 arrived. I'm sure there is a niche where this could do well, possibly people who have no real use for a pickup but like the style of them and will buy this more luxurious lookalike.

Mate, sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. Likely you are 'Murican and don't understand we do use your ridiculous monster trucks here as they literally don't fit on our roads. There isn't much difference in price between the Amarok and the Ranger in their up-spec versions. The Merc and Nevara are more expensive. The Hilux is slightly cheaper, but only comes with that 2.5 diesel, which has major issues that Toyota refuses to admit. Not to mention, their support is crap. If you would bother to look at any auto sales site, you would also see that the Amarok has massively better resale prices. The Hilux comes close, but still loses more value. For someone who visits job sites and on occasions ever carts clients, the Amarok is so much nicer than the rivals. It is also worth noting that the tow ratings for all these utes are complete nonsense. For example, the ranger says 3.5 tonnes, but they don't mention that means the payload drops to basically zero. So, 4 people inside? Nope.. over the weight limit. I personally would not buy the Amarok, but only because VW decided that rear passengers are not important enough to both with safety equipment. I'd have the Mitsubishi as the price is reasonable and gets the job done. Not to mention, the customer service is great.

I have a VW amarock and it pulls 7tonn handy up a bit of a hill so that 3.5 tonn fact is bullshit great pickup

If you are pulling 7t with a mid-size truck you need to seek professional help. I wouldn't tow that heavy with anything less than a 3/4 ton.
