There is a lot of discussion amongst the Bronco community on the topic of mud flaps. Many owners have noted that the design of the Bronco is prone to throw rocks and mud all over the lower door sills, and you will quickly find tons of dings and chips unless you install mud flaps.
Also, there are lots of different options out there, with some of them costing over $400 just for the front set!! Others are a hard plastic material, which I would definitely avoid and in the video I will show you why.
I am installing a heavy duty, flexible, low cost option that cost only $30 a pair plus another $10 for the mounting brackets. I use the crash bars standard on non-sasquatch models as a mounting point, and I will show you how to fabricate a simple mounting bracket that will keep the mud flaps very securely fastened to your Bronco.
Here are Amazon affiliate links for the mud flaps used in this video. Thank you for supporting my channel, using these links results in no additional cost to you:

Mud flaps with no logo: amzn.to/3JO12sW

Good stuff. Always enjoy seeing the evolution of your rig. If I can make a suggestion, please consider ending your videos with a good 15-30 second side view of your Bronco. I'm aways anxious to see an extended , static wide shot of your Bronco, where you can see the entire vehicle unobstructed. Thanks!

Coming from the Jeep world, Ford accessories seem extremely expensive. That, combined with the various quality issues Broncos seem to be having is making me rethink my order. Your mud flap solution is a great one. Now you just need to do all the other accessories Ford is overcharging for and make sure to sell me a set of each. ;)

In 5 years the aftermarket will be on top of the game. Now it ks all a la carte and expensive. In 5 years, I want to buy a Bronco and do a diesel conversion, no reason not to achieve 30 mpg highway.
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco 2 жыл бұрын
Some of them definitely are expensive, especially the ones that are clearly made by another manufacturer and just being resold with markup by Ford. For example these Gatorback mud flaps, all of the Thule and Yakima racks and equipment, etc. And I agree the aftermarket will make more and more stuff and the prices will get more reasonable, just as they have done with Jeep over the years.

rigid mudflaps are perfectly fine, they still bend in very cold temps so kicking snow and muck off em isnt an issue, as for off roading most of them are quick release so its a non issue.

Man, that Antimatter Blue is such an awesome color. Really pops in the sunlight. I ordered the Sasquatch package on my 2022 Eruption Green Outer Banks. Been looking at mudflaps for it -- not that I have it yet; it's only been 2 months since I ordered it. But anyway, what I think I'll do is something similar to what you did -- only I'll need to use some square-tube steel to make myself a "crash bar" of sorts, since my Sasquatch-equipped Bronco won't have the crash-bar for me to modify. But it really doesn't look all that difficult, honestly. Thanks for making this vid!

Just reporting back that I picked up my bronco Wednesday and did the install of mudflaps today. Just a word of wisdom to other viewers, if you have rockrails, they project a bit into the wheel well so in order to fit/ attach the brackets this way, I needed to bend the flat tab forward to clear the rockrail a bit and then still required a persuasion mallet to get the intrusion bar back in place. ( Its still a tight wedge to fit.) They'll be a bit of a bear to get back out again, and likely not so easy to remove. I don't plan to so not so concerned. I suppose removing the rock rails and trimming them back or leaving them off is an option, but I doubt that most owners would attempt that modification themselves or accept leaving the rock rails off, so just my word of caution.
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, it should be helpful for those with rock rails. I have seen others trim a little bit off the rock rail in order to make some space for mud flaps. That is not hard to do, just take off the cap, use a cutting wheel, and then put the cap back on, but understandably many would not want to cut brand new parts!

I just did this, and it seems/looks amazing! Sure it was a little more work than buying off-the-shelf, but I legitimately think the quality/functionality is BETTER than most of the expensive ones out there. I used the "mountains" flaps, not the "ford" ones, but other than that nearly identical to yours. The only hard part was drilling into those crash bars. OMG that's hard metal. 90% of the project is just trying to drill 2 holes in that steel! Whew. Also I have a Black Diamond with the factory rock rails, and they jut out just enough that they interfere a little. To help with that I actually put my "bracket" INSIDE the crash bar, rather than outside it, which probably got me close to an extra 1/4" space behind the crash bar and in front of the rock rail, which was just enough to squeeze the flap into. Looks great! (I think I used 10 cobalt drill bits in the process!!!!)
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco Жыл бұрын
AWESOME!! I am glad it worked out for you. I agree, I think these flaps look better and function better than most of the options out there and cost a fraction of the price, but it does require a little work. Somebody else commented about having difficulty drilling the holes. I did not really myself, but I was using a high quality (more expensive) cobalt bit so that probably made the difference. Good for you to adjust by putting the bracket inside the crash bar, makes sense. Enjoy your Bronco and thanks for watching!

@@BudgetBronco I also did backup bulb replacement you did... Great and cheap. The only other one in doing for now is a similar fog light bracket to what you did, only I bought TWO pairs of lights... One fog and one spot... Meaning my bracket is "L"-shaped to accommodate two cubes at the front of it. I also went a little lower budget than you and bought Auxbeams. We'll see how they hold up comparitively. Not finished with that one though. So I can't really test yet. I'll let you know how it comes out.
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco Жыл бұрын
Cool...yes please do let me know how that L bracket works. My only concern would be that one light getting that far away from the fastening point, you might start to get some vibration when you hit bumps, and with the lights on in the dark you might be able to see the light pattern bouncing around a bit.
@toddsonneborn9245
@toddsonneborn9245 Жыл бұрын
@@BudgetBronco Yeah, I haven't gotten them wired up and tested in the dark just yet, but I did think of that, but only trying it will tell. It's a "longer lever" hanging out there, AND double the weight of just s single cube on there. If it's "bouncy", I think I will be able to add a little piece below the front edge of the bracket that could sit on the bottom of the bumper opening, maybe a little rubber foot or something. Once I test it (and it is satisfactory), I'll post a pic or to for you to see. I've got a wide fog light and a narrow spot light on each side. Might try to finish the install and test tonight. Depends on weather/schedule/etc. I did the reverse lights per your instructions and they're a huge improvement. And the mudflaps are great too! Great videos!

Possibly, but the only tool you need is a grinder and you can buy one at Harbor Freight for $20. That is what I did years ago, and I have used it for so many projects since I have lost count. I’ve probably spent 8 hours and 10 cobalt bits and still don’t have one hole. I’m using a hand drill with a bubble level at slow speed and oil to keep the heat down. I’m trying to find a machine shop to do the drilling but no luck so far. Any suggestions? Thanks for the comment, it might help others. I did not mention this in the video but now I wish I would have. They are expensive, but last a long time. Here is the exact one I used, bought it a while back from Home Depot: www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-3-16-in-Cobalt-Red-Helix-Twist-Drill-Bit-48-89-2309/203115294. My whole channel is about finding less expensive ways to do high quality modifications. If you watch my other videos you will see lots of other examples.

Go white. Love the value minded video. I just added step rails to my black diamond and kept the rock sliders. But I will add a little rubber to block the rocks.

Good call...somebody else told me they cut off an inch or so from the slider, put the cap back on, and then installed these mud flaps and it worked well.

If you love engineering solutions and building things like I do, then labor time is a non-issue. But I hear ya, it's not for everyone. Most people would rather spend $400 for a easy install product.

I dont get it. You spend $60K on a bronco and you put on cheap mud flaps that makes the bronco look like a dump truck. Dont be cheap , spend the money!!!!

First a correction, I paid MSRP of $31k for my Bronco. As far as being 'cheap' two comments: 1) I picked these because I think they are a good balance between functionality (I don't like the rigid plastic type) and looks, and 2) the channel is called BUDGET Bronco after all! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching

😂 Don't spend $30 on mud flaps, steal the plastic trash can lid from your neighbors trash can. Cut as needed and attach them with 4 to 5 self tapping screws per side. LOL.
