Shocks should not leak, period. To use a measurement of how far the oil has traveled down the shock is just an attempt to have the failure pushed beyond it's warranty.

Thank you for this informative video, Ford Boss Me. At 77,000 miles, my 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Hybrid has now leaking Rear Shock Absorbers verified a Ford dealership and independently by Firestone (Trust, But Verify). Your comment at the end that this is happening to a number of Ford products makes me theorize Ford has a poor-quality auto supplier for Shock Absorbers. And we, their Customers, are stuck with the repair bill. No bueno.

I have 2021 phev escape with 102k km on the clock. Rear shocks with front struts was replaced twice under warranty. Recently front left strut failed again and was replaced as well as sway bar links at the back and front. Luckily I have extended warranty only pay deductible. I thought that’s happening only with hybrids and phev due to additional weight.

2021 Explorer same issue at 40k miles. I thought that was early- no other car I’ve owned needed shocks replaced at that low of mileage. But I can’t find any other shocks than OEM so I’m still riding on the bad ones because I don’t want to put another set for $800 just to replace again in 40k miles.

I bought escape 2016 new for the wife and with less than 10,000 miles the left shock was dripping and had them replaced. Another problem was the positive side of the battery post. I own a shop so I do all my services. But when I brought this up about the battery I was told if it past testing they would not warranty it. I told service manager if they couldn't replace it under warranty just put a new battery that I would just pay for it cause it was eating the pos cable. I had put grease around the post an told him about that so what the guy did was clean it an give us back the car. Well I had to put a new battery cable an battery cause they lied when they said they would replace it under warranty but anyway it only has 62,000. I hope it makes 100,000. The escape is not a very bad suv for being mass produced and my son in law has over 350,000 on 2004 I believe. Rich thank you for sharing everything you do. I wish you lived here in fla cause I would have no problem giving you a job an pay you very well. I would probably just turn the business over to you as I'm getting older and want to retire in the next 5yrs. Anyway be safe bud

My 2019 Ford Edge has 11K miles on it now 07/13/23, I purchased it from the dealer in 06/02/20 with 5K miles on it. It was used at the dealership as a demo model. Today I will have the Motorcraft rear shocks replaced because I was told they were both leaking and wouldn't pass inspection. You can bet they won't be replaced with Motorcraft brand. I've had cars for many years before ever needing the shocks replaced, so sad the consumers are cash cows for these companies with their mediocre products. I'm very disappointed in Ford quality at this point.

2021 Ford Escape SE rear Shocks gone bad. Car bounces worse than any car I have every driven. Bouncing rough ride started at about 25k miles. At 43 k miles (yes I drive a lot) the ride is terrible. I am bounced all over. Must be bad for my back. My mechanic told me today new Ford shocks won't be available until Feb. He said Ford has changed the # to order shock's 3 times. Grrrr So disappointed in my Escape. No wonder Ford offered 0% interest rate to entice me and other's. Hard to bail out.

That is just unacceptable I think. I would buy a new car based on who has the best build quality and best quality parts. Who would that be in your option? I'm saying Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Suzuki and Volvo would be up there. Maybe BMW too since their new generation of engines are rock solid if you maintain them well, they use ZF Automatics and those are the best in the industry and generally they dont fall apart in the first 100k miles, they DO develop issues over time though and you cant neglect those. VW is much worse just everywhere they use cheaper parts, cheaper in house transmissions and goofy Haldex AWD systems which are known to crap out, and trust me their engines are not as good as BMW and Mercedes for that matter. Compare a basic 2.0 i4 gasoline engine from BMW, VW and Mercedes and the VW will the worst overall in terms of just how they are build and how they can fail.

@alouisschafer7212
@alouisschafer7212 Жыл бұрын
180 something thousand miles here. Everything is original underneath except for the lower control arms in the front, sway bar links and some rubber mounts. Struts all around are original but think its time to replace them based on just how the cars suspension feels and how it handles bumps. The car still passes inspection and they really get in there with a flashlight and check for visual signs of wear aswell as checking for play so I trust them. Pretty sad to see blown shocks on a car that is still brand new it must hurt you and your dealership to see this all the time.

No I don't but it's pretty easy to do just nuts and bolts Literally you just have two bolts that go through the top of it that go into the body of the vehicle you can see them from the wheel well area and then there's one bolt and not to go through the bottom control arm. So you take the tire off of the vehicle put a jack underneath the lower control arm and jack it up just a little bit pull the bottom bolt out of the control arm, and then there's two bolts that go through the upper part of the shock pull those out and install your new one

If the customer only could see what goes on behind the scenes of overseas outsourcing they would think twice about their purchasing decisions. I've been to Canada, Mexico and China working in the machine tool industry at major automotive manufacturing suppliers plants and have seen some of the insanely lax quality standards in practice. Corporate greed and union overkill got us here. Growing up in the suburbs of Detroit and working in this industry over 20 years solidifies my assessment. Your not buying American made anymore. Thanks UAW and political driven NAFTA you have systematically destroyed our automotive manufacturing industry. End Rant. Thanks Rich for sharing this inside view of warranty restrictions 👍

What needs to be said is all mass produced products do pass quality control inspections and some wind up in the dealership shop,with problems. I can sit here and name brand name products that we have had problems with and other products that we own with zero problems Working properly as the manufacturer designed them too. Sorry but the quality of anything, whether it be cars or stoves or pc components has gone to shit. For Ford to say this needs to be more than 1/3 wet is absurd. Shocks are sealed, that is the entire point of it or it can't do its job. We know all brands go through quality checks but cmon man, even just here on Rich's channel the amount of new stuff that is fubar is way too high to give brands a pass like you just did. I expect meh quality on aftermarket parts, but for new oem parts to be failing at high rates is just not acceptable, especially when the owners have to pay the prices they are for new cars.
