Everyone who says Abraj Al Bait is better then Big Ben should just know this... Big Ben (Elizabeth tower) has a clock mechanism that is powered by gravity. Weights in particular which drop down the tower as the clock runs and bells chime. If the tower was too big then it would make servicing the clock A lot harder then it already was at the time it was constructed. On top of that the clock faces had to be illuminated by hand using gas torches, yet another reason not to build to high. No elevators back in the mid 1800s which meant and still means they have to manually climb the spiral staircase to reach the clock and belfry. Now Big Ben has a total of 334 steps to climb in order to reach the belfry, This excludes the Aryton light at the very top. So Imagine how many steps you would have to climb in order to reach the clock of a tower the size of Abarj Al Bait then after climbing all that way up winding a clock by hand for 30 minutes straight. Oh and descending back. Just One Last Thing... Big Ben is a historical landmark of my country which has survived two world wars, Not the world trade center with a clock on it😂
@denil95982 жыл бұрын

@PinkPanther4958 Жыл бұрын
One thing i also forgot to mention was the fact that the clock is powered by a gravity fed movement. If the tower was too high then the clock would be stopped and driven out of time constantly by the wind. The higher up you go the windier it becomes. In other words the hands would act like sails.

Comparing them as clock towers, I like Big Ben way more. Abraj al bait feels dystopian and overwhelming. It doesn’t look awful, but not nearly as beautiful as Big Ben/queen Elizabeth tower. The clock in Mecca doesn’t seem to chime or anything, and the face appears to basically be like a screen. And the actual complex inside is just another modern shopping mall. Big Ben has its history, it’s a beautiful Victorian relic, and machinery all still intact and working perfectly to this day, it just can’t be beat by this bloated monstrosity
