Thanks for breaking that down. I do like the new deck design. I had that issue a couple years ago when my pepper plant go so big, the trunk blocked the nutrient channel, and water/nutes ran over the deck onto the table and floor.

Glad to hear my thoughts and opinions have been useful to somebody. Every product that comes across my desk gets scrutinized and called out. I've seen your AeroGarden grows, and you have some amazing grows.

Great tips along with the pros and cons on these units. Does not surprise me they made it cheaper and jacked the price up. Stay safe and have a great week!

With a possible five year light lifespan, at current pricing, unit cost is around $76.00 pet year not including running expenses. Aside from enjoyment, this means a lot of growing to break even.

Hi Matt! Great review. Just wanted to throw out that most modern Wifi routers and AP's are backwards compatible with the 2.4GHz these days, unless of course you have a 5GHz only router, which are more rare. Also, I have one of these units and it connects fine with a WAP2 password. No need for WEP which is highly insecure and easily crackable.
@MattGarver3 жыл бұрын
Spent part of a day with AeroGarden customer support trying to get connected to a 5.0 GHz only wifi router, only to find out that they said it would not work. Guess it might work on WPA2 for some equipment, but was also a no-go. So the official word from AeroGarden support was to stick with 2.4 GHz WEP. I did find that I could get the AeroGarden Bounty online using an Android phone and setting up cellular data as a hot spot. Although, after connecting my Bounty to my smart phone app, there does not seem to be too compelling of a reason to have it wifi enabled yet. Maybe in the future, there will be more features.

What happens when the light goes out? Any way to replace after those 5 years?
@MattGarver2 жыл бұрын
If you like electronics, typically that is indicating the ballast inside the hood needs replaced. Otherwise, you can contact the AeroGarden company and ask about getting a replacement. LED light hoods if used on a regular basis last around 5 years, so your predicament sounds about normal. 🌱

I've had AG's for about 3 years. Have (3) Harvests & just bought a Bounty last year on sale. Personally, I think AG should stick to the basics. All of my Harvests work really pretty well (2 have weird light timers & don't turn on at exactly the same time.) My 3rd Harvest had issues connecting to WiFi but finally got that working too. My biggest issues are with the Bounty. AG sent me a new base because the first one initially only started changing the light turn off time to 3pm, despite being set to 7pm. Then it started to randomly change the Clock as well. Never could get it connected to wifi. Now the 2nd base is starting to do the same exact thing & changed the timer to shut off at 3pm🥺 This one won't connect to WiFi either (admittedly could be a modem issue but one Harvest IS connected.) Guess what I'm getting at is the older models that don't have all the bells & whistles work much better (for me) than the Bounty. My friend recently acquired one of the very first AG models and it works flawlessly.

Jen, thanks for sharing your experiences. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Since AeroGarden sold out to Miracle Grow, at least that is what I heard, the quality has suffered. My 2013 AeroGarden Extra is still going. I did buy converters to run my own lights after getting tired of buying the AeroGarden fluorescents. My 2014 AeroGarden Ultra's LED hood burned out after 5 years of use. That being said, the LED versions do tend to grow better plants and offer higher wattages than knock off hydroponic desktop gardens on Amazon.

@@MattGarver Do you have any links to the converters and bulbs? I've got a few older Veggie Pro AGs that all use the fluorescent lights at 3 per hood! Plus a Classic 7-pod that uses 2. The 15-year-old gardens still work and I've started growing again after a lengthy absence, but the price of bulbs is going to be a problem.

@@MattGarver Brilliant! Thanks so much! I have heard that my particular Aerogardens which have 3 CFL lights under the hood might be problematic, but it's still worth a try! Even if all I can convert is the single Classic 7-pod that would help.
@GrayHomeVideo Жыл бұрын
@@MattGarver I got my conversion done, many thanks! The old 2008 Classic 7 pod machine is currently growing Tatsoi under LED lights now. Three seeds planted, 2 days later, three sprouts up!

There's a great online community in Facebook for AeroGarden's. I find if I am not growing lettuce, I am starting seeds. These are great for growing plants up to about 12 in and height and moving to other systems like hydroponics or self-watering containers.
