One important aspect that wasn’t covered in this video that is a distinct advantage of the Q5E is the fact that it qualifies for federal and sometimes state tax credits, making it cost nearly the same as the standard Q5. So you get nearly the performance of the SQ5 for the cost of a regular Q5. Oh, and that ultra blue metallic isn’t available on the regular Q5, but it sure is beautiful.

Actually own one of these that is about a month old. Our EV range is consistently 25/26 which covers the majority of local trips and errands. Level 2 charging is a must and it requires about 2-1/2 hours from empty. It just takes way too long otherwise. Would also like to point out that 0-60 is a "fast" 5 seconds, have actually seen 4.9. Look at some of the other reviews.

I have owned one for 7 months now and I love it. In cold (UK) weather it's good for 20 miles, but now it's warmer I am getting 25. Even with only that EV range, 70% of my driving is fully electric as I do lots of shorter trips in and around London/Surrey. One of my favorite things is the split personality, silent comfortable cruiser with lots of tech, then Dynamic mode on, and it's super quick.

@@Steven-UK I'm considering this car and would love to hear some more feedback about it. 1) If you drive a lot in the day and run out of battery are you basically just driving the car with the 2.0 L engine with 26 mpg efficiency? 2) If the battery runs out, I assume you don't have the same performance, i.e. 0-60 in 5 seconds since you're just on the gas engine.

@@mwdavis77 Hi Mark, yes if the battery runs out you are just driving on the 2.0L engine, however, it will still shut down the engine in slow traffic and when stationary. I generally get around 45MPG when the battery is depleted. Also when running on the engine with a depleted battery the car provides power from the engine to the electric motor so you will get electric power assistance alongside the engine so you don't lose the electric power altogether. I don't know if you still get the full electric power boost with no battery but it's still no slouch.

I am very interested in the latest PHEV’s coming out. I agree, 100 miles of range and this is a total game changer. Great review as usual. Thank you.

It’s funny how quickly my mindset has changed - a year ago I was seriously looking at getting one of these, but now I’ll be looking at getting a Q4 e-tron which should be available to test soon here in England. I’ve driven several EV’s over the past year, and got be honest it’s completely changed my mind on my next car.

Just bought an Audi Q5 2023 hybrid and we love it. Electric range is now 32 miles, same hp numbers. theres some arguments about this car qualifying for gvt tax rebates because of the whole gvt having to renew the tax stuff this year. But for 61k vs the sq at 70 plus(and its metallic black interior is leather a cool brown and a LOT of the optional stuff is now STANDARD) its honestly the quickest and fastest car ive owned. ( my 96 formula with the corvette engine only topped out at 125mph i think it had a governer though, and it was not as quick or tourquey ) do wish the electric was furhter range but also it takes 14 hrs on a lvl 1 charger(we do not have a 230v for the house yet) with the 32 mile range at this time(and thats real world, audi told us it would be about 7-8 hrs.)

What’s the MPG once the battery is empty? Drove the new Kia Soreto PEHV recently. Went from 107 to 28MPG once the battery was “drained”. I had about 30miles where the MPG was great. But then I still had to drive an extra +150miles at 28MPG... (+90% highway) (The battery stayed at about 1/4 full. The car switched to a kind of MHEV mode instead of a PHEV mode) Yes. I’m one of those broken car guys because of company-car-budget, where the base price of a car + the MPG impacts my budget on choosing a certain car (translated: budget for options)

I think it should at least be able to match the RAV4 Prime in EV mode which is 40 miles, 19 just isn’t going to be all that useful when you figure that most peoples commutes avg. 28 miles roundtrip.

People commute these post pandemic days? We get 40 miles of battery on a 2018 CT6 2.0E plug-in and I commute to work 12 miles. The kicker is I get to plug in at work so it is plenty of range for daily activities.

German EV range are generally underestimated by Porsche (see Taycan) and Audi (though Etron seems accurate. Given the battery of prime is 18 and this is 14, I would expect 30+ miles with not going high speed and being light on throttle. The next model year will come out with an 18 kWh battery so should be similar

@@normt430 that’s an amazing delta. I wonder if Audi and Porsche take the approach of near worst case scenario like they do with performance figures which is guaranteeing a conservative 0-60 regardless of condition and in the case of electric range (in cold conditions and at higher speed)?

There is a difference in the electric motor setup. I think Rav 4 just drives the rear motor but audi’s electric motor is on the drive train. So theoretically you get better traction with Q5. Depends on the use case, if you have snow in winters, you may be better in a q5.

None (and I mean NONE) of the major auto media outlets (and very very few automotive KZbinrs) tell people that hybrids (whether PHEV or not) cost more to insure than gas engine cars (about 10%). EVs cost even more to insure (30% more than gas engine car). EVs and PHEVs cost more to buy up front too (most everyone knows this). If this were on some super good lease deal I might go for it, but if buying it is SQ5 all day long. If you plan to buy used , get the gas version no matter what.

Refreshing to see a performance hybrid. So bored with these hybrids that detune the gas engine, and prioritize the fuel economy and sacrifice the power delivery.

I like it but I don’t get the point of a PHEV that runs on premium fuel. VW versions of the EA888 run on 87 regular, and the 2.0t Audi Q3 runs on regular, Audi certainly could’ve made the Q5e run on regular if they wanted to also.
