Followed your video and it was super easy. Oil temp was around 140ish degrees and didn't have a problem. Once it started to make a slurping noise I continued to pump to get the remaining oil out. Once complete I changed the direction of the pump and pumped the old oil back into the containers for disposal.

Hello. Can you please provide instructions on how to remove the valve that is in place if you are stock and do not have a dip stick as you do?

20 years as a Master tech for Volvo and Audi.... never once used a torque wrench for oil filter or oil drain plug, but good for you for doing so. Plenty of non-pro's strip and break stuff.

Nice video. I used vacuum extractor prior, but I never cracked the oil cap, etc, as I found that hindered extraction on all my vehicles. Now I use an electric motor for extraction, which I assume it doesn't bother extraction.

Great video! just want to add another important reason for lubing the o-ring which is so there is less friction and less risk of damaging the o-ring as you thread on the housing.

Wife and I just bought a '21 S5 Sportback, picking it up tomorrow. Good to know about the removable dip stick, I'll have to order one as well as a oil catch can. Hopefully it will delay a decarbonization of the intake.

Congrats on the S5! It’s super fun car for sure and I’m sure you guys will love it. I’ve heard very mixed opinions on installing a catch can on this car, apparently Audi has an air separator system that does a very similar thing. I’m still researching on the topic, but if it turns out that I can benefit from it you’ll see a video of an install soon.

@@gearedgarage Cool. I just ordered a Mashimoto catch can with drain valve. Heck maybe I should have done more research. Oh well, with the cost of the intake carbon clean on these it can't hurt.

Just added a list of all the tools used in the video along with a link to the oil change kit we used in the description. The only specialty tool would be the fluid extractor which I added a link to, but all other items you can get from anywhere you'd like if you don't already have them!

Either use a pair of locking pliers (might mess up the piece) or put a zip tie through the hole and use it to create a loop that you can pull.

I just bought a 2021 Audi S5 Sportback and the MMI said the oil level is low so I put 2 quarts in it. Now I’m getting a message saying “please remove some oil”. Can I get one of those extractors and get some out that way? I’m afraid of damaging the engine if I drive it to a shop and have them do it :(
@gearedgarage
@gearedgarage Жыл бұрын
Yes a fluid extractor would definitely allow you to remove some oil once you get enough out you can pull the pressure release valve to stop extracting. For future reference since these cars do like burning oil if it was to tell you to add oil again I would check the digital dipstick in the MMI, the distance from low to high is about 1 quart.
@stephen8698

It seems you have some protection over the rubber tube touching the dip stick. I was always worrying if the hot dipstick will burn the rubber over time. Can you share what kind of protection you use and how did you do it? Thx!
@gearedgarage
@gearedgarage Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I completely understand your question but if you’re referring to the black piece on the fluid extractor tube that’s simply just a connector to combine two pipes together to create a longer pipe. As for the actual tube it comes with the fluid extractor and is designed to be used for hot fluids like oil and seems to be more than capable of handling the high temperatures without any issues.
@stephen8698
@stephen8698 Жыл бұрын
@@gearedgarage OK I was referring to the tube which is part of the car(engine) and next to/above the oil filling hole, where the edge of the dip stick maybe touching while it gets really hot while driving. Overtime the dip stick may do damage to the rubber tube next to/touching it.

@@gearedgarage Also how do you reset inspection due notice apart from the oil change interval? Do you use OBDeleven or some other diagnose tool?
@gearedgarage
@gearedgarage Жыл бұрын
Oh I see what you’re referring to that pipe sits pretty close to the dipstick handle but doesn’t actually make contact with it. We also didn’t put anything on the pipe to protect it from the heat, whatever is on there came from factory like that. I would imagine that the actual dipstick tube gets pretty hot but from having pulled that dipstick while the engine was hot the handle which is closest to that pipe doesn’t get that hot.

Dipstick is from ECS tuning and extractor is from Amazon there’s multiple different fluid extractors but from reviews and our own experience the Mityvac ones are the best!

No the oil change interval can be reset without it but if you’re resetting the inspection interval as well then you’ll need something like OBDeleven.

Great video! I just bought a 2019 RS 5 SB so this is very helpful. My only question is at what temp are you doing the oil change? You drove around for a bit to get the temps up, wondering if there's a certain temp we need to reach prior to oil change. Is the extractor able to handle those hot temps since the hoses are plastic?
@gearedgarage
@gearedgarage Жыл бұрын
176 F should be around where you want it but generally around 10 mins of driving should be enough in summer weather. The extractor tubing is more than capable of handling the hot temperatures not sure what material it’s made of but it’s designed for hot fluids.

Did more research, and it seems that the max temperature for the Mityvac is 175F or 80C. Changing oil at 176 could melt the plastic. According to Audi the oil temp should be no less than 140F, giving you a safety spread. I would aim for 150F just to be safe
@gearedgarage
@gearedgarage Жыл бұрын
Yeah I just took a quick look at some of the reviews on Amazon and people have had mixed experiences with oil at operating temperature. Interesting that we haven’t ran into any issues I suppose by the time we get all our tools out, setup the extractor, etc it’s had time to cool down to somewhere closer to that 150 range. Good information to know, definitely will keep this in mind don’t want to remove melted hose material from the engine haha!

@dealershiptechtruth the oil change is free through FCP Euro once you return the old oil to them which costs maybe 20 bucks to ship they refund you the full amount for the entire kit so for 20 bucks total it’s a no brainer to just do them every 5000 miles
