I'm strongly considering this as my next bike. How much does your medium weigh? Does it feel heavy? I was looking at alloy Transition Spires before this but those are like 2 lbs heavier than this bike it think.
@mtbohana2 жыл бұрын
Frame weight between the two is close. Meta AM is 8.15 lbs and the Spire is 8.72 lbs. The only time I feel the weight is when I have to pick the bike up and put it on the bike rack after a long ride 😂 The bike climbs amazingly well for its weight. Having that steep seat tube really helps too. It handles well in the turns and once pointed downhill the bike smashes everything so effortlessly. What bike are you currently riding? Do you live close to Oceanside/Carlsbad? If so, let me know and I will let you throw a leg over it. The bike is a size medium. My 2022 Meta SX frame just showed up, which is a mullet version of the Meta AM. I can't wait to build it up to see how it compares. @@mtbohana Dude, so, update - Bike was supposed to arrive this month (Aug.). But I got an email saying it will now arrive in Jan. of 2022! I understand the global situation with bikes, but waiting since Feb. was already tortuous, and I really couldn't hang anymore waiting. So, I cancelled the order, and checked around local shops and ended up purchasing a Pivot Switchblade. @mtbohana3 жыл бұрын
The bike weight is 35.7 lbs and I don't feel the weight at all. The bike is a very efficient pedaling bike. No pedal bob at all. Also, the really steep seat tube helps when climbing. When going downhill the bike is so stable and eats whatever you throw it. I love the Fidlock water bottle. It has never fallen off and it's really easy to take on/off while riding. Highly recommend. The V1 Ripmo is a nice bike. How are you liking it? Also thanks for watching and commenting.
@NDemanuele13 жыл бұрын
@@mtbohana Wow! It's crazy how the bikes are getting bigger these days but maintain efficiency! I love the Ripmo, I came from a V1 Ripley I rode forever. I love the added stability. Been riding it for about a year now. I've always carried a Hydration pack, most recently a USWE. I been considering a water bottle, but am hesitant due to convenience while riding and also the likelihood of damaging the frame when pulling it out ( it's possible to put too much force when reaching for the bottle on the screws and bottle cage). I bought my Ripmo with very low miles but it had a few deepish scratches around the bottle screws area. So I'm exra cautious.
@mtbohana3 жыл бұрын
@@NDemanuele1 Yeah I love the Ripmo and the DW (Dave Weigel) suspension design it uses. I think the DW system is pretty much the best out of all the suspension designs out there. Yeah, I normally ride with a hydration pack too and only use a bottle on small rides. As far as to much force on the bottle, the way the bottle comes out is by twisting it sideways, so you're never pulling up on the bottle. The bottle comes out very easily when needed so I don't think you would be putting much force on it at all. I just went and tried and I'm able to twist the bottle out with a pinky finger. So not a lot of force is needed to remove the bottle. I'm still amazed how it never falls off when riding. I have a friend that has been using one for two years and his bottle has never fallen off. Crazy how well they work.

What's the weight of this bike fully built up?
@mtbohana3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a chance to weigh it, which sounds weird because my scale is broken. I will say it's heavy and most people are getting around 35.5 to 37 pounds with air shock and if you build it burley with a spring shock expect 37.5 to 38 pounds. You really only notice the weight when you have to lift the bike up after a long ride. It pedals uphill really well. Me along with a lot of other reviewers have beat their climb PR's on this bike. The steep seat tube and suspension kinematics really allow you to get the most on the climbs. The extra weight helps on the downhill because it really keeps the bike stable. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I'll be happy to answer them for you.
@bikeninja9563 жыл бұрын
@@mtbohana ok thanks....I love this bike but that weight scares me...... I like how you mentioned that the seat tube angle makes a difference... 38lbs and a slacker seat angle would basically just be an old school DH bike.
@bikeninja9563 жыл бұрын
@@mtbohana oh so helpful, really do appreciate the response. Yeah I have my trance so I got 85% of the trails around here covered but I ofcourse for the rowdier stuff, downhill pointed venues, it's not quite the best choice. Hence I'm casually eyeing out a more enduro setup for those occasions. Anyway, so much to choose from but with pedal power, it's always a compromise. It's certain putting a steeper seat tube on a slacker enduro geo is where it's at....I wouldn't ride anything of that weight without that. So now it's just a matter of comparing geo's and weights, I'm not hard set on carbon, but it seems like going the alum route will be 35+lbs no matter what the components, so I need to figure out if I can live with that....I think an alum Norco Sight is another great candidate, geo's are spot on, but then again, not a light bike. And yeah, regarding WB, for sure that will be + on the DH, but not so good for tight and twisty, it's all about finding that sweet spot. I think if I could find 64 HT angle, 77-78 ST angle, short-med stays and reach, sub 35lbs, would be a winner for me, but I think I'd probably have to go carbon for that and my wallet would take a beating....anyway...the search continues!
@mtbohana3 жыл бұрын
@@bikeninja956 Yeah, after riding my bike that has the steep seat tube angle that is right over the bottom bracket, I don't want to ride a bike that doesn't have it. Don't know if you saw the link in the description about steep seat tube, if you didn't, give it a read. It's really cool. I'm all about aluminum. All my riding buddies have all cracked their carbon frames and sometimes on minor crashes. With the way the bike shortage is right now, if you crack a frame, you might be waiting awhile for a replacement. Also I don't let bike weight bother me like it used to. I would rather have a stronger bike than a lighter bike. Oh, if you find a bike that you like, but the only thing stopping you is the head angle, then take a look at an angleset headset that allows you to steepen or slacken the head tube angle by +/-0.5, +/-1.0, +/-1.5. I want to get one for my bike. Would be cool to see how the bike feels with different head angles. The Norco Sight looks like a really good bike, though it looks like Commencal has Norco beat in price. I compared my bike which is the Essential build at $3,799 and the Norco Sight A2 at $4,399. That's a $600 difference. Both have the same components except for Norco having a slightly better rear shock. If you went with Commencal, you could do a lot with that $600 bucks. With that said the Norco Sight A2 is a sexy looking bike and the shorter travel might suit your trails better. I would also take a look at the Commencal Meta TR. It’s a trail bike, but it bombs down the hills like an Enduro bike. Man picking a bike nowadays is so hard. So many good bikes to choose from. If you are ever in San Diego, let me know. I will let you throw a leg over my Meta AM.

Try oneup pedals. Best I’ve ever had
@mtbohana3 жыл бұрын
I tried both of their pedals. Their composite pedals is convex, so all I could feel was the pedal spindal right on the ball of my foot and it felt horrible. Also due to the pedal being convex the pins are lower than the center part of the pedal. My foot would ride on that center part and not allow the pins to fully dig into my shoe. The end result was the pedal not providing much grip and my foot would always slip off. Their aluminum pedal is ok, but they went for the narrow Q Factor which caused my foot to rub against my crank. If I moved my foot away from the crank it would end up hanging off the outstide of the pedal. I could also feel the the raised part of the pedal that is closest to the crank on the bottom of my foot. I think this pedal would work great for people with smaller feet, but unfortunately my size 11 foot doesnt fit the pedal. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really apperciate it.
