AWD is good to get going, yet far too many folks think "if I can go, I can go normal speed" and then they slide into a wreck. Good to see someone taking advantage of a parking lot to get the feel of how the vehicle is when sliding. I do this every winter at the first decent snow. Enjoy your Durango :)

My TnG arrived last spring. So, this is its first winter. Gotta share a warning story with you. Here's what happened: We had a cold snap a few days ago. Got down to -17F overnight and -9 daytime. The air pressure in the Pirellis was down to 28 PSI cold. So, I pumped them up to 33 cold, right? That's fine as long as it remains chilly. But two days later, temps were in the high 20s. I had the TnG out on the freeway and after maybe 20 miles, I noticed that the Durango seemed a bit squirrely... kinda shifting from side to side. Not so much trying to change lanes all by itself. But definitely loose laterally. Checked the tire pressure and it was up to 39/40 PSI on the dash display. Pulled off the road and dropped the PSI down to 36 all-around. That did the trick. Handling returned to normal. Just lowering the pressure by 4 PSI made a world of difference. Why am I making a fuss over this? This is in stark contrast to my other Durango: a 2019 R/T with the stock Bridgestone Ecopias. They seem to be insensitive to ambient temperature changes with respect to road feel. I suppose the PSI variations are similar to what I experienced above. But, I've never noticed any loss of stability with the Bridgestones. Don't get me wrong. I'm NOT knocking the Pirellis. Just suggesting they're more fussy with respect to tire pressure than the Bridgestones.

Wider tires are actually worse for snow/slush - thinner cuts through better - the wide tire can become like a surf board where your on top and not making contact. Now for ice it can be better with more tread touching ground. But regardless, with the weight and AWD and Snow Mode (I think the tires are A/S) so you're totally fine! Love the new Durango Tow & Go!

The Daimler-designed "WD" Durango (2011-now) is expected to continue through the 2022 model year. The Hellcat trim won't be available after this summer. But the Tow 'n' Go option is supposed to continue for the remainder of the WD run, which is through the 2022 model year, after which time Durango will get a complete redesign.
@TheCondoInRedondo3 жыл бұрын
Production of the current Durango and Grand Cherokee models is moving to the Mack Avenue plant in several weeks. In fact, I was led to believe that Jefferson North will shut down as soon as April for a major "modernization" that will cost $900M. But Durango will live on (in its present WD form) at Mack Avenue until it receives a complete redesign, probably for a 2023 model year introduction. Before the Peugot merger, the game plan was for Durango to remain a unibody design, but move to a Stelvio-like platform. No word on whether these plans will change now that FCA is Stellantis. But for the remainder of this year and the 2022 model year, Durango will remain WD-based and Tow-'n'-Go will be available because it has been selling very well.
@TheCondoInRedondo3 жыл бұрын
Gotta make a correction. I just spoke to my Dodge guy and he corrected a misunderstanding I had last time we spoke. He told me just now that the WD Durango is going to REMAIN at Jefferson North. There will still be a four month shutdown at JN very soon (he thinks it starts this April). The shutdown is for retooling and other modernizations. But when it re-opens, the WD Durango will continue to be made there. The new WL Grand Cherokee is happening at the Mack Avenue plant. Suspensions for Durango and WK Grand Cherokee will continue to be assembled at a MOBIS plant about seven miles away from Jefferson North.

@Thomas kasap I'm not going to get into a war or words with you. Folks can believe what they want to believe. Are you doing all this on the factory Pirelli Scorpion Zeros? Or, do you have winter tires mounted? Ship date for my Tow 'n' Go is Feb 14. So can't yet share snow experience. But my 2019 R/T AWD has driven through six inches of unplowed, unspoiled snow UPHILL with no trouble whatsoever on the factory Bridgestone Ecopias. Just a bit of ABS during braking. But climbing hills is sure-footed. No spin whatsoever. Where the Ecopias struggle is on icy surfaces. Then I can hear the transfer case clunking into 4WD and then back to RWD once the Durango gets traction during the climb.
@therivierarecord25963 жыл бұрын
Stock pirelli’s here! I was a little concerned they would not do as well as the narrower bridgestones, but there was no noticeable drop off. I think the weight of the Durango’s really help them in the snow compared to other more common 3 row options

@@therivierarecord2596 My TnG didn't actually get delivered until March 15, 2021. So, I had no snow/winter experience on the Pirellis (to share with you) until now. Presently, I'm up in Southern Vermont (Mount Snow) with the TnG wearing the stock Scorpion 295s. The parking lot is not paved. It's like tundra when the snow and ice thaw. But, when frozen, can give snow tires a challenge, let alone all-season tires. The surface is currently a mix of ice and snow. The parking lot is slanted. Yet, the TnG climbs the hill without the ABS kicking in as long as I go easy on the gas with snow mode engaged. Where I encounter loss-of-traction is wet ice. Though that hasn't been a show-stopper. There's always been enough grab on one axle to yank the Durango forward.

I haven’t heard any reviews talk about the safety tech. I know they’ve added lane centering, but how does it perform?
@therivierarecord25963 жыл бұрын
I don’t have that option on mine. I had it on my 2018 and it worked ok but nothing as good as some of the other brands autonomous driving assistants. Found I didn’t Like the adaptive cruise function much. Worked fine on its own, but when people jumped in front to pas others on highway it braked hard and was kinda annoying. The forward brake warning was nice comfort to have peace of mind but never had to use it. Decided it wasn’t worth the cost for the option this time
@TheCondoInRedondo3 жыл бұрын
I have the lane centering and it's really not that. It's more like "lane-keeping". And even though you can set it (in the uConnect menu) for one of three "strengths", even at its strongest setting, it really only keeps you in lane as long as the road is straight. When the highway curves and you don't steer the car through the curve, it alerts to let you know you're crossing into an adjacent lane. But, it won't fully steer the curve for you. You can feel a bit of a tug on the steering wheel. But this is not full, autonomous driving. The Durango will cross into the next lane unless you wake up and correct. But the good part is that the feature will get your attention. To me, that's worth the money if you tend to drive alone. There are two situations where the lane-keep feature is beneficial: 1) When you're reaching into the glove compartment and you take your eyes off the road for a moment and you don't realize you're drifting... 2) When you're driving tired and your eyes shut (micro-nap) for just a moment. You can feel the steering wheel tug and the instrument cluster chimes and shows you a warning to use the steering wheel. If the system determines that you are not steering the car, then the Durango will brake to a full stop because it will assume you are incapacitated.
@mct88883 жыл бұрын
@@TheCondoInRedondo thank you for the detailed feedback. The system sounds more annoying than anything, especially for good drivers.
@TheCondoInRedondo3 жыл бұрын
@@mct8888 It has the potential to be annoying, fersure. But it really isn't, if activated with discretion. Frankly, I find it reassuring. It can be disengaged with a hard button on the center console. You don't need to dive into the uConnect menus to turn it on/off. So it is convenient. I do find it useful on hypnotizing stretches of highway, such as the southern portion of the New Jersey Turnpike (below Trenton, known for decades as a sleep-inducing stretch of interstate, so much so that there are literally billboards imploring drivers not to fall asleep) as I tend to drive at night and I almost always drive alone. So having the extra set of eyes is genuinely reassuring and I have not only turned it on many times, but (since Fall of 2018) it has activated twice. In one instance, I had dropped the EZ-Pass on the floor and was fumbling around the footwell (with my head up) to find it with no success. So, I put the map light on and glanced down as I approached the toll booth and sure enough, the wheel activated because the lanes began spreading out laterally, yet I was still aimed straight ahead. The feature does temporarily deactivate automatically when you have a turn signal flashing, so it's not nagging you when you intentionally wish to switch lanes. If you find it irritating, but still want it on... you can find a menu setting to adjust the feedback strength to "minimal" and you'll barely notice it. I prefer to have it on the strongest setting. Don't hold me to this. But I believe it also deactivates below 40 MPH so it doesn't become a nuisance when driving in town. The feature is designed for highway use. A camera at the top-center of the windshield looks for lines and stripes. If it doesn't find any, the system de-activates so as to avoid sending false positive alerts.

@@jayappel6859 yeah man. The SRT exhaust included stock with this package. These things really sound aggressive with an exhaust. Enjoy.

Since it doesn't have low gearing setting.does it automatically stay in and mode the entire time?

Stays in snow mode as long as the button is not pressed again to take it out of that mode. Or upon restarting the vehicle.

Is this video about snow or the car? Sorry man, you talked about snow as if it is an extraordinary and exceptional event. But I give you the benefit of denial. Maybe it is for where you live. I can tell you that for the last 17 years, I have been driving a 2003 Durango SLT in all weather conditions for the weather we have in NW Montana and it is just awesome. Also it is by far, the most reliable car I’ve owned. Notwithstanding the fact that changes do occur over 17 years, but damn, I’m definitely taking a test drive in the GT and Hellcat this year. And I will restore my current Durango. Have a good one. My jab about the snow is not malicious or intended to piss you off.
