Went to Eagle River several times in the 70's and still enjoy this racing. Miss the twin tracs, hated motocross. I'm 72 now, watching in my shorts and beach chair. I dont miss standing outside all day as a spectator in minus 30 weather but that separated the men from the boys as we used to say. Good gear and a large coffee laced with rye helped keep us warm.

In the 1980's my Dad raced 1/8th mile drags on his sled. The trick that he used was the clutch. You play around with the weights in the clutch, and you can get it to engage right around 8,000 rpm's. That gives you a holeshot everytime and he won most of the races we was entered in. His buddy had a twin track and he raced the ovals. They got his sled to engage somewhere around 7,000 rpm's and he'd get the holeshot most times too. I was off in the military so I didn't get to see them race too much. I did get to race my Dad's sled two times, and that was awesome.
@billconnell91692 жыл бұрын
Doug, thats an awesome story. And thank you for your Military service by the way! There are many tricks that we use to increase the engagement RPM. In this F500 class due to the style of track that is required, traction is somewhat limited. So if we engage too high you might just sit and spin.
@Dementore62 жыл бұрын
@@billconnell9169 Dad also highly modified his rear suspension too. You probably can't modify those sleds like he did. It took off like a rocket. The other sleds spun their tracks too. They hadn't figured out the suspension trick. hahaha. There were lots of other things he had done. Too much to write in here. Thanks for the reply. I didn't do anything special in the military, but thanks.

Now THIS is snowmobile racing! The snowcross is boring. Used to hit Traverse City & The SOO also for the triple crown in the seventies. No twin trackers anymore?
@billconnell91692 жыл бұрын
Twin trackers don't race anymore. One reason is that they are very valuable and most of them sit in collections. Another reason is that they had cleated tracks which are no longer legal and so someone would have to invest in manufacturing a rubber track for them.
