Great comparison with cost vs capacity but one thing it doesn't show is all the things you can do in a smaller truck vs larger. I just went from F150 to ranger and have been amazed at the tight turns I can make without backing up. Also parking in smaller stalls, parallel parking, parking garage or even in many peoples smaller garages. If you absolutely need the interior spare for large adults or kids or need to tow more, get the F150. For no kids, occasional riders and hauling lumber or towing smaller loads then the Ranger may be a better fit. Regardless of numbers we wanted to size down and the Ranger fit the bill. 😃

Very good comparison I have a ranger it fits my needs perfectly not everyone needs a full size truck I'm glad Ford brought back the ranger they knocked it out of the park now if we could get the ranger raptors here it would be another home run

When I was 15 my mom's boyfriend bought a new 1995 ford ranger with the 4.0 V6 and 5 speed manual. It had a little back seat. XLT. Everyone made fun of him for getting it but it was a solid truck. He gave to my mom in 2000 with like 60k miles. Then in 2003 I bought it from her for 2500 dollars with 88k miles. I lifted it and put leather bucket seats in it and a flow master exhaust and cold air intake with computer chip. I ended up blowing a head gasket on it racing a mustang. That truck was actually kinda fast for it's time. I've been driving an 06 E150 but thinking about getting a 2.3 ecoboost ranger next year.

One thing I can say is that our Ranger will take two booster seats, and an infant car seat in the back with no problem closing the doors. At first I was concerned that it may not be quite wide enough.

When I went to the Ford dealership, the 2021 Rangers weren’t in yet. I was unpleasantly surprised by the lack of safety technology in the 2020 Ranger. We are are getting a travel trailer in the spring. Our Tacoma is 7 years old and we are considering replacing it. Our car is a late model Subaru and we like safety/technology features like eye sight, BLIS, adaptive cruise control. When I saw the 2020 Ranger lacked all that, It was a non-starter. So all the data in the world doesn’t matter if the truck is lacking the features you want. The salesman said those features are coming int the Ranger.

Look for an xlt Ranger with technology package or lariat for everything you mentioned and more. Just build one on Ford's site and see for yourself

Interesting, I would have bet money that the f150 would have been the better buy. But to me it still is because the f150 is more refined and has better quality of life features. If ford updates the ranger though, that could all change. Also while I love the f150, I am aware it has gotten huge. Which if you live in an old city, like I do, can make the ranger less stress inducing to park and maneuver. I like this kind of video, its very revealing. Still think I'd have the f150 though. Maybe "great gas car vs. Great hybrid vs. Full electric" next? Or "minivan vs. Crossover"

Great video, very informative. I'm moving from a 2007 F-150 Lariat to a 2021 Ranger XLT w/ option package 302b. The only thing I'll be missing (beyond what you described) is leather seats, which I didn't want anyway. Plus I'm picking up a huge amount of tech (My F150 Lariat doesn't even have bluetooth!). Then again, the '07 full-size Lariat stickered around $35k and the Ranger sticker reads in excess of $39k.

Serious question. I’m looking to buy a new vehicle. It will be used every day to do deliveries putting in around 40 miles on freeway and 60 miles doing frequent stops, equaling about 100 every single day. Deliveries are no hauling or nothing heavy. Ranger STX. 1. You don’t need four wheel drive for what you are describing. 2. Ford boys cover your ears. The engine in the Ranger is a modified Mazda MZR engine. They just call it EcoBoost now. The MZR is well known for being one of the most reliable four cylinders on the market. 3. If you do your research and negotiate well, you can get a new Ranger for 30k tax and tag. Alternatively if you’re doing that much driving and you don’t need all the weight and towing capacity, just buy a Honda Fit and save 10k.

For my use I prefer the Ranger. Its more than enough to haul and tow anything I would use on a regular basis. The overall cost of the Ranger would be lower as well because of better gas milage, lower cost of maintance, insurance, etc. Its also much easier to drive in the city as well as park in tighter spots you would never fit in with the f150.

Yes I’d like to see more of these types of comparisons. I would love to see a Lariat F150 compared to a Lariat Ranger. When I bought my Lariat Ranger with every option it was an $18,000 price difference.

Compare it to a supercab f150. WAY more room in the bed and similar backseat size. A supercab f150 with the 5.0 cost me 34k here in southeast georgia for a brand new one. They were not offering the same discounts for rangers for some reason.

Selecting 4WD is not standard. My ranger has a higher payload than shown here cause it’s 2WD XLT. Not a 4x4. They need to know basic truck stuff before just saying numbers like that. Like if you get the off road trims which I don’t have you lose payload by a few hundred pounds. You always get less acceleration. I hit 60 in about six seconds. But that’s increase by .8 a second with a softer suspension meant for off roading. I never off road so I didn’t need all that. Just a XLT with leather seats. Perfect for me.

I don’t know about the American market but the real life price difference is probably closer to 4 grand only... you can have an XLT Crewcab F150 for closer to 38-40 and an XLT Ranger will be 34 at least...

Although the 1500 is physically larger (like is the case with the F-150 here), the Colorado might have the edge, especially when comparing their respective diesel options.
