A good in depth review explaining what most potential purchasers want to know - well done. It’s a pity the white frame is not available with 29 inch wheels. The larger black tyres would look amazing against the white frame. Giant also have the Talon 0 out now, but makes you wonder if it’s worth the extra money when the Talon 1 meets most peoples needs. Nice review though - cheers.

The rim on this bike is 21mm, sounds like 2.4" is pretty much the limit for width. Do you think the bike could fit a 2.6 or 2.8 tire on a 30 or 35mm rim? It seems there is a lot of clearance in the frame.
@carcassbeast52 жыл бұрын
I have stans flow mk3 that has 30 mm inter width. I have assegai 29×2.5 in the front and still has good clearance. In the rear I got a quality wheel with 25 mm inner width. I have a dhr 2 that's 29x2.4 and still has a lot of Clearance. It's harder to find a 30 or 35 mm inner diameter rear wheel that's quick release. But if you find one it'll fit.

I've been bikepacking for 8 years. Have tailored a Boardman 27.5 hardtail to meet my needs, preferring straight handlebar to drops, front suspension and wider tyres over the gravel bike approach. It's now worn out and by sheer coincidence, the spec of the Talon 1 is identical and reasonably priced too for its replacement. I use a seat post suspension to take the thwack out my backside as the alloy frames can be harsh compared to steel and carbon. Tubolito inners take it to less than 13kg. I've never got on with 29, too 'lollopy', if that's a word.
