Just got my manual version today, I’ve taken a risk because the dealers are short on supply, so no demonstrator available. I traded in my Tuono Factory (2018) thinking have I made a mistake by buying something from You Tube reviews. Absolutely not, the comfort and usability is great. Ok, after the Tuono the bhp loss and non brembo brakes are noticeable, but 95% of the time it’s no loss, I’m really pleased with it.

I already own a NC 750x wich will soon be three years old and today I road tested the new one and I came to the same conclusions as yourself with this machine, it's fun, fairly quick, brilliant in the twisties and comfortable with good brakes and it looks great in black. Good news as well, all the exras I have fitted to my current NC will fit the new one.

Good honest review. I've been interested in this bike, have a friend who has the last generation and they like it but did comment coming from a bigger bike the power was a bit lacking. With a small weight drop, small increase in power and adjusting of the gears this bike is back on my radar. More power, DCT feels more responsive, modes feel more responsive, feels like the handling is sharper too. I'm really chuffed so far!

RbW and DCT are a match made in heaven..... The lower ride height also lowers COG even further. Substantially so. It's as easy to push around, and lean over/under mirrors, in tight parking spots as a 300 class scooter now. And it doesn't pitch as much when braking hard. The latter at least partly because Honda has tuned the new, shorter suspension fairly firm. Reviewer is 17 stone, and finds it comfortable and good handling. Smaller riders may find it borderline too stiff over rough stuff. I'm 12-13 stone, and "plush" wasn't what immediately came to mind on a test ride. But if I get one, I will no doubt load it down with luggage, and likely fit stickier tires, so I can't say I'm bothered (It's not _that_ firm. Just firer than, say, a Vstrom 650.) In addition to supporting luggage and a passenger, the firmness will also come in handy for those who want to ride more aggressively. One thing I like about the lower height, is that it takes less space leaned over on narrow lanes. Really tall adventure bikes, sometimes feel like even with the tires almost in the ditch, you have to duck under oncoming SUV mirrors in turns. Lower bikes are just a bit tidier in that regard. All in all, it's pretty impressive how Honda has simultaneously achieved a low seat height, decent leg room AND still retained decent ground clearance for pretty spirited (for a street bike. It was never meant to be Marquez' new Honda) riding. I didn't check or measure or anything, but I can only assume they have achieved it by placing the pegs fairly close together, in addition to specking a fairly supportive suspension.

Why does everyone want belt or shaft drives? You have way more options for final drive ratio's with chain and sprockets. Want a little bit more low end grunt change your sprockets. Want to go a little faster in the top end..... change your sprockets. lets see you do that on the cheep if you can even find a company that will take the time to make the parts for a belt or shaft drive. Noooooo........ for me though oiling a chain is a bit of a chore, I'll take the chain option any day of the week just for the reason I mentioned about the freedom to change your final drive ratio cheep and easily. You can keep your belt or shaft drive.

Very good review and it is obvious that Honda have made some great improvements to this popular machine. I had a NC700s a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Some improvements I would liked to of seen, that they have never addressed on the NC range are: The front mudguard is too short and in bad weather kicks muck over the engine (lots of owners fit an extension, but it does look like a bolt on!). There is no rear hugger fitted which leaves the rear suspension a bit exposed. The radiator is not protected and needs a cover to save an expensive repair should something hit it. The machine doesn't come with a main stand as standard, which I consider important (most of Honda's scooters come with a side and main stand). Some other mods that would of been nice (perhaps a x-plus model?), an electronically adjustable screen (as the Forza range), keyless ignition, heated hand grips (a really expensive addition if you fit the genuine item) and as you state cruise control. Having said that the Honda NC750x is a fine machine and fits into the model range well.

I have been waiting for a UK review on the 21 NC DCT and you are the first. Good review and a lot of on-bike shots really good with a variety of roads. Walk round video was very shaky compared to the start video, maybe do that hand held next time. I love my 2017 NC 750X DCT. I think Honda have done a great job taking this to Euro 5 without making it too expensive. Maybe the seat is better this year too because most riders replace the rock hard seat on earlier models. As for technology, no-other bike manufacturer does DCT. Makes the bike relaxing when you are out for a pleasant country ride but with the low down weight of the engine and behind the seat petrol tank it handles well. Great fun for pushing hard along a-roads and overtaking. You can use all of the power there is. As you say DCT is quick to adjust to the speed you are riding. £21K miles on mine in 3 years.

I've had two NC750's before - both S models. I couldn't manage the seat height on the X models before. The trade-off with the S was always the suspension. Reducing the seat height of the 2021 X has certainly made it more accessible - especially now they've dropped the S model this year. It's great to hear that they've actually improved ride quality and not compromised it by reducing the suspension travel. Well done Honda! A big thumbs up for pillion on the previous model - and I can't see this new version being any different there either. I'm currently running a 2019 VFR800x Crossrunner (also from Via Sheffield) but I'm missing the excellent economy of the NC. The trouble with the CR is that it begs to be ridden fast making full use of the Vtec and fuel consumption suffers as a result. Thanks for the video, for your time and for your honest review 👍

I see you’ve had two 750s models ! I’m really keen on the old s model as I believe it’s lower seat height! Can you confirm it’s lower? And what’s your honest opinion? I guess it’s good as you had two cheers in advance.
@PhilipBallGarry3 жыл бұрын
Ivor, yes indeed I had two "S's". My first was a 2016 DCT. The second, an earlier 2014 Manual. The seat is quite a bit lower than the X model at a shade over 800mm. I'm 5'6" with a 29" inseam so I find a lot of bikes too tall as you might imagine. The NC's were brilliant bikes and very good for pillion too. The seat is a quite hard though so I recommend the Shad replacement which is gel and really comfy. The manual version tends to hit the rev limiter a bit and you can get caught out during an overtake. I know it takes less than a second to snick an extra gear but it does reduce the safety margin. You soon get accustomed to it but the DCT bike looks after you more in this respect. These bikes are truly faster - the slower you ride them 😁. The worse thing about the S is that it doesn't benefit from the longer travel "DB" forks of the X model. It's the main area of dissatisfaction with the S. Reducing tyre pressures F&R by about 2 psi makes a surprising difference and doesn't affect handling one bit.

To me this bike is the motorcycle equivalent of a scooter, and not to intend that in any negative way at all. I mean that in the sense that it has the sort of built in practicality and usefulness of being able to run errands on the bike with no fuss or strain by providing excellent fuel economy figures, automatic trans if so equipped, and a built in frunk. I have yet to test ride one of these and truthfully I only have space right now for one motorcycle in the garage (life is hard 😔) but I’m still itching to have a go on one of these despite loving my current bike and no intention of selling it 😋

Another great review, David, delivered with traditional Yorkshire humility! No BS, just honest, real world riding & opinions, as usual. Honda hv fitted more road-focused tyres to go with the lowered suspension and I think, a smaller front wheel than before. So now you hv ADV bike comfort with road bike manners. I test rode one a couple of years ago & with the DCT gearbox, it was a brilliant, fast point-to-point ride in an urban setting - roundabouts, dual carriageways etc, all despatched with ease & smoother & faster than regular 4 cylinder bikes. Despite relatively low bhp, it's easy to ride fast if you're smoooooth! Thanks for a very entertaining review, David - top job. 👍

I've now ridden both the "normal" and DCT versions of this bike but preferred the manual. To be fair, It may be that, given longer, I would start to appreciate the DCT more, but I did find I missed the control you have from slipping a clutch. By comparison, the DCT was a bit more ON/OFF with throttle response especially when pulling away or in tight/unexpected situations. Not sure why I'd want to pay a grand more for less control. Also. I could be missing something here but there doesn't appear to be any "kickdown" as you get in an automatic car. Should you wish to overtake in a hurry, then opening the throttle wide has little response. I guess perhaps you could use the manual shifters given a bit more experience or put it into "sport mode" which may make a difference? Thing is, I'm a bit "old skool" and the thing I've always liked about these bikes is their simplicity and ease of riding. So faffing around with rider modes and paddle shifters is not something that appeals to me. Just my two hapeth' and great bikes that are sadly much underrated.

Nicely done review. Thanks for the effort. Question: have you tried going up to 125 KPH or higher in expressways ? I often tried to avoid the expressways (or what we call freeways here in the US) but there are times you just cannot avoid them completely. So, I'm wondering if the NC750X is safe on those those roads.

Great review, thanks. I'm on a Cb500f now and would consider this as an upgrade with an eye on touring. Mind you I've heard people say there isn't much of a difference between the two models, but maybe that was the earlier versions. What do you think? Would you be able to make a comparison?

DCT, more upright, frunk, a bit easier on the pillion.

@@hershchat Thank you. In the end I decided to stick with the CB500F. think it's a better looking, more exciting bike than the NC750X, and it suits the type of roads I mostly ride on better with its responsiveness and agility. Great review! Thank you. I was thinking about the MT 03 or the SV650. But after riding at the MSF for 4 hours each day, my left hand and wrist are sore. Stopping and slow U turn and cornering are tedious on the clutch. I really have fun with my Burgman 200. Its lest work and more enjoying the ride and the scenery. I think this bike is my next bike. I was consider the Rebel 1100 DCT but it has more cc which cost more to insured and its top speed is 100 (maybe stability of the bike or traction).

Great review. I bought a nc750xa, (2017), a couple of days ago and I have hardly got it into 6th gear yet as anything below 60mph and it rides really rough. Two points the chain for touring is it too much of a pain to adjust and with the lower suspension I don’t think Honda intend it to be taken off road ?

Chain is a breeze and they lowered it to suit more body types. It’s more of a bike that is capable off road, than an off road bike.

Hello. A few days ago I bought a new Honda Forza (2024) 750, of course with a dct transmission. Excellent bike, but it's unusual for me when I'm driving around town, how often it changes gears (in standard mode) and that "cluck" gearbox sound annoys me a bit. I guess I'll get used to it, I guess that's how it should be. 🤷♂️
