I had Incentivise, but I can admit that the blood drained from my face when I saw Jmac high in the irons cruising at the 400m. It's giving me nightmares to be honest but I backed her Caulfield Cup last year into the MC and did the same with Incentivise this year. Taking out Twighlight Payments fast MC race last year, that's 3 of the best wins I've seen, dominant wins. I hope they meet again and it would be amazing if they did in a northern hemisphere spring feature, then come back and duke it out again. The field next year would be 10 runners, the handicapper brain would explode

Absolutely agree....was following Verry Ellegant from the start and had her close to the fence before the turn and had moved her up within a couple of lengths of the leaders at the turn....she was travelling so sweetly for him.....

@@samrabinovici1140 the plan would have been to get her one off 4 or 5 pairs back and the map worked put perfectly for him. They had to be closer than she was last year. Then she got a perfect tow into the race on the back of Spanish Mission who was following Grand Promenade (who also ran a massive race 3 wide the trip). A bit of a shame that Incentivise wasn't quite at his best.... can you imagine those two coming clear and fighting out the finish. Can't wait for the Tancred in the Autumn

Watching the race live there was a point about 1300m out I think it was where the caller says she's way off the fence and at that point you could see she was trailing Spanish Mission in. I thought to myself then that she's won this. Such a tough horse. Probably the first time i haven't had a win bet on her in her career, but am stoked to see her win either way.

What a great ride by the jockey. Got into 10th one off by finding space early, peeled out to keep free down the back, easy advance to 800m then kept within striking distance until the turn. Perfect. A lesson for all MC jockeys. She's a great horse too, but they need a good pilot.

@SvendBosanvovski Incentivise has been cleared of serious injury. Apparently he had filling in both front tendons. JMac's ride was perfect.... if you watch the overhead of the start it was made very easy by the early speed map.

Stakes Day looks like a cracking finale to the carnival. I was hoping Classique Legend would line up in the sprint. Looks to be an easy kill for Nature Strip. Zaaki is predictably short for the MacKinnon. Is there anything that can beat him? JMac, barring misadventure should break Brett Pebble's record of wins at the carnival.

Of course, typical "punters" backing a $2.80 "sure thing because all the bookies say so" horse who has won a few good races, maiden earlier in the year, and never ran 2 mile, against a gutsy, proven, 9 time G1 winner, has run the distance before AND was "average" leading up...dead giveaway, imagine a horse like VE going into a race like this and not even being looked at, comical...The fave probably won't win another race ..different vids on YT i predicted the exact outcome right down to the exact moment VE will destroy this field. @@csbcsb4458 I'm kicking myself I didn't back her. And in retrospect, a 1 length 3rd in a Cox Plate is a decent WFA warm up for a 3200m race. Her sire, Zed is also a noted sire of stayers, the longer the distance, the better they like it. Once she figured out how to settle she's been amazing at distances 2400m or longer (i.e. forget her Wakeful & VRC Oaks failures, she had her head up racing keenly for the first 1/3 of both races and the jockey had her positioned near last). The Melbourne Cup 2020 was a small aberration, but we can see she had no hope from how far back she was. She ran on better than anything in the last 800m, when the leader's daring and successful dash for the line commenced, which was obviously a precursor to her 2021 performance. In races longer than the Cox Plate since the VRC Oaks there has been a win in the AJC Oaks, Tancred Stakes, Caulfield Cup, and the 2 Cup runs.

I have been fighting for this horses reputation over the last two weeks with a few local knockers online here who were calling this mare a second stringer performer on the UK platform..this win today shuts them up totally and they know who they are, she is a world class mare who can mix it with the best..so far, no UK performed horse has been able to carry more than 56.5 kg in the cup over the last 30 years...this mare carried 57 kg and won it with a leg up in the air.

LOL She’s beaten Spanish Mission mate, not St Marks Basilica. This was a great win in an Australian context but she’s the best horse you’ve got, in comparison to European form Spanish Mission doesn’t even make a list of the top 30. An admirable performance but I think you may be getting a little carried away. A credible third is probably the best you’d expect from her in a proper G1. Although, maybe she is a better horse at 3200 than the second stringer she’d be here at 2000/2400.

It was Jmacs 2nd Major as he won a Slipper a few yrs back, everytime i watch it she did it so easy , she was the only horse you ever wanted to be on from the winning post the first time, she was that fit and perfect she was ready to go around again. But I think after this and the Autumn obviously she won another G1 but the heavy load of a Cups campaign and the heavy 50 tracks we produced again in Sydney really caught up with her, she was the first horse beaten in the QE and honestly she's not a 2000m horse I know she has won over 2000m but she is 2400m plus , she is the typical Zabeel blood from her dad. The further the better, but to carry 57kgs and win like that, yeah it was an ordinary field but nothing would have beaten her this day. Champion. The Cox Plate run was just a Cup trial , this was Waller's target for her, so what now does she retire and become a mum or does she have a nice long spell and travel ?. You know Waller will do the right thing with her. But lightning can strike twice. Winx then this girl.

Barrier 18 for a horse going back and with a long 800m run to the first turn was never going to be an issue. The 57.5kg was a slight concern but there were no decent light weights from Europe and she just had panels on the Aussie stayers in terms of class. JMac could not have positioned her in the run any better. That was a Melbourne Cup ride straight out of the text book.

Great win for Verry Elleegant...congrats to connections. From a breeding perspective...Its finally a Melbourne Cup win for the family of the great broodmare Eight Carat(mother of Octagonal & 4 other group one winners) & daughter Cotehele House(mother of Danewin). On the male line side.....was good to see the Zabeel line finally score another cup over the now very dominant Danehill line. Both of those champion stallions were born in 1986 and were old foes. Good to see their progeny running one and two in this years cup :)

She was the only horse you wanted to be on even at the mile, she was cantering and she just levelled up to the front runners and said see ya boys im the best horse in the Country, full credit to Incentivise take out the mighty mare and he completes the double, people say he didn't stay the 3200m yes he did, he had all rights to drop out but kept rolling to run second, maybe next year if he is going aswell might be his year more seasoned and a tougher horse but you can't complain if you own him 2nd in the Cup and 3 i think G1s in a row so he's a very good horse. But all credit to the mare, Chris Waller says that the Cox Plate was her GF but to my eye it was the perfect Cup trial, but he is the master 5 yrs ago, he was winning G1s like bench mark 54s, but had not struck a major, then came along the best ever is Winx who gave him 4 Cox Plates, then this girl gives him a Caulfield Cup and now tge Melb Cup, so all he needs to complete the grand slam is a Slipper, unbelievable but he is such a humble man and deserves everything he gets.

The more I watch the replay the easier it looked she did it, she was cantering the whole way, she was that fit and you didn't want to be on any other horse Incentivise was all guts and heart who didn't drop out after VE went past him, plus now we know he had some injuries but that wouldnt have changed the result but what a mare.

I backed her from 38/1 into 20/1 in the Melb Cup over 4 or 5 months to collect 30k and landed 4 multi's where she was the last leg. I had 2 multi's with Anamoe (Caul Guineas) into Verry Elleegant (Melbourne Cup), another with Nature Strip (Everest), Hitotsu (Vic Derby) into Verry Elleegant (Melbourne Cup) and another with Anamoe - Nature Strip - Hitotsu - Verry Elleegant. That last one was 5,840/1 and I only had $20 on it lol and the funny thing is I would have won another 100k+ had Anamoe won the Cox Plate. It ran 2nd beaten 2cm (official margin). I've never been more confident on a horse in the Melbourne Cup. She's a champion stayer - she's now won 4 from 5 at 2400m and beyond, all Group 1's, with her 'failure' being the 2020 Melbourne Cup when she got a mile out of her ground. Jockey had her too far back and set her an impossible task. She was 16 lengths from the leader and winner Twilight Payment with 1000m to go and flew home to run 6th beaten 3 1/2 lengths so she effectively made up some dozen lengths on the winner in the last 1000m in 2020. She was already an Oaks, Tancred Stakes and Caulfield Cup winner. Let us not forget that she beat an English Derby winner in that Caulfield Cup too.

I know what she's won and lost, i worked at Mick Price Stables back when Pompeii Ruler won his Aust Cup at Caulfield but landed a massive win when he won his 2nd run and he was Micks best horse in the stable and he went round at $35 , I even got a call when his Caulfield Guineas Horse who I cant think if his name right this second that paid $101/1 I got told the horse was flying but no one wants to know about him so had $1000 on , but I don't get on youtube talking about winnings . I don't punt anymore but follow every horse as Im into breeding side of things, VE is a cross of Eight Carrot who we know was Occys mum. Thats why she is getting better with age, Waller just had to iron out her over racing and to settle, Id been on her from day one, her total cost as a yearling was $13500, Zeds service fee was $500 and the owner purchased her mum for $13k. Anamoe was bred to be a stallion but Godolphin will prob retire him after his next prep, same with Redoutes was specifically bred by Danehill and Santhas Choice to be the next champion Stallion. I just hope Anamoe races on atleast into the 2022 Cox Plate, VE Cox Plate run was just a cup trial ,she isn't a Valley horse but went thru the line brilliantly and in a convo podcast I heard frim from Waller, they watched the Cox Plate 10 times or more and seen she was dour, but also her last 100m was the reason he ran her in the Cup. She when she goes to breeding barn will throw better progeny then Winx, Winx was just a freak of nature, but VE is also bred to be a very good broodmare.

Absolutely, in harness racing sitting on the outside of the horse in front is called the death seat or facing the breeze, and very few horses win from there including gallopers especially over two miles. Can't see how that was a good ride.

@@Boozoobajou1 one counter argument is Incentivise is a horse who likes to work through his gears and build speed. Doesn’t have the sharp turn of foot as VE does. I do agree i hope to see him take cover next prep!

The only horse I can remember winning a cup from outside the leader was empire rose, who won by a nose. Thought the tactics by the incentivise team was poor.

A great run She has to go down as one of Australia’s great racehorses. She’s clearly a better horse at 2400-3200 than she is at 2000. It’s a shame there is virtually only 1 suitable race for her every year from now on. When have 3 of the 4 top weights ever run the trifecta in the Cup before???

She was never as perfect and set to run 3200m in her life, i can't believe still I got $16 fixed odds and when they showed a head on shot 1800m from home she was just having fun, in the groove and just galloping along thinking, watch what im about to do, everyone Jumped off after he 3rd in the Cox Plate but Waller is cagey he knew what he was doing the Valley isn't her track yet she still ran a great 3rd, he was just getting the miles in her legs, but I had never seen her so perfect in the mounting yard, she didn't pull at all in the run, just the perfect ride off the pace off the fence and the further the race went the further she would have won by. That old Zabeel blood was there and to carry 57kgs that is massive for a mare, but she was just brilliant this day. One thing she should have been retired after this race. Not sent over seas for greed, she was ready to be a mum. Thankfulky she is now retired and will be a mum. Great mare.

Verry Elleegant was the most experienced horse going into today's race but was priced at $21. Finished first in the George Main Stakes then 4th and 3rd prior to 1st at Flemington

Great ride by the hoop, great run by the mare, but spare a thought for the second horse. Wide the whole way up in the death seat, kicked too early in the straight, making him a sitting shot. I thought about a dozen horses would run over him, but he kept on fighting to the end. Take nothing away from the winner, but what a magnificent effort the second horse.

Especially good considering he pulled up with minor tendon issues. I disagree with your comment that he kicked too early though. His racing pattern on the past has demonstrated he lacks acceleration. He needs to build his speed and I think, given the barrier was ridden perfectly. I think without the injury those two would have come away and fought out a classic finish

Prior to the Cup, Verry Elleegant has completed over 23,000km(9 wins) of Group 1 wins vs 5500km(3 wins) of group 1 wins. 4 of Incentivise first wins were in much easy company. Look it is a great horse, but Verry Elleegant has the history, experience and has km under her legs.

Not sure on the stats, but winning both the caulfield and the Melbourne cup in the same year is very low, but there are plenty of instances where they will win both in the following year. Incentivise should be a good chance next year with a bit more experience and km under the belt. On the M cup race, Incentivise really needed to put 2 or 3 lengths on them before the 600m, Verry Elleegant was too close and did her normal run of push out wide around the end of the turn, push ahead and drift across the track disrupting any other horse to run her down.

That race was over when the reached the winning post....on the first lap! it was an identical ride to last year but with a lot more luck, I mean she drew wide both years and attempted to settle about midfield, one off which happened both years, last year the pace was slow and most of those out wide went forward meaning by the time they went out of the straight she only had 3 or 4 behind her in a slow run race, this year they went along much quicker and while she settled in an identical position all of those out wide had to go back to get in, meaning she had more than half the field behind her, from then on it was always going to be a procession, I backed her from $16 all the way out to $26 and thought she should have been the fave, her run in last years Cup was a beauty and she should have won, I had to wait 12 months to back her but she made the wait worthwhile, Waller's conservatuive approach is a worry, you would think he was training Koala's (a protected species)not race horses, if they had 4 mile races she would be even better! Any races she won under 2400 was on sheer class, at 2400 she is only just getting warmed up, she has always been in Makybe Diva's class but badly handled, same as Winx, they always kept her in her comfort Zone too, I have no doubt that Winx could have won multiple Melbourne Cups, she could make long sustained runs that never stopped, actually I don't think we ever saw the best of her, she was never really given a test and we were lucky to see the best of this mare too....and now she will just go back to the same old same old

I know Europe has won a few M Cups but I have been banging on for years about the wrong types being sent out there.You do need a quality 10f+ horse,the stayers do well but generally can't quicken when you need too!! IMHO.....
