Main problem of this car: no full size spare wheel, no jack, no iron. Just run flats with some useless tire repair kit foam. Other annoyance: no wireless android auto/car play. You gotta use a stupid cable instead of keeping your phone in the pocket or elsewhere. Otherwise it rides like a dream. Simple design means it will age nicely and feel actual even after 10 years. The ride and interior somehow makes you feel more special than the X3. In a way it disconnects you from the mad world outside in a better way. I have the new 220d 4matic. Diesel, 194hp

$50k and it comes bare bones ! I built a GLC43 and with all options that should be standard at this price point (Heated & ventilated seats, wireless charging, leather interior ect), it came to $69k 🤦🏽‍♂️! What’s so special about owning one of these, aside from the three pointed star ??

Great review Cliff. Surprised you wouod go BMW X3 over Alfa Stelvio for a drivers SUV. Nothing wrong with the GLC other than being a bit boring. I find the upcoming Genesis GV70 much more exciting than this. At this point I'm just happy this doesn't borrow the EQS design language.

I haven't driven the Stelvio on the road, only for 15 minutes on a track. Yes it's great. But I can't in good conscience recommend someone buy an Alfa given the company's very spotty reliability.

Excellent review as always, Cliff. I agree that it's just plain silly of Mercedes to charge $150 for double pane glass in a 50K luxury vehicle. Come on now!

Mercedes just overcharges on everything. So many of the safety features should be standard. Great review, Clifford.
@colechapman6976

The reason why is to make the brand name hold some type of stalk in the common public. People see a Lexus and aren't that impressed, but a beautiful Mercedes, heck yeah people gobble it up. The reason why Mercedes does not include these features is to make sure budget and "ugly" cheapos can't access their cars and ruin their reputation. It's all very classist and elitist thinking but it's what they must do in order to protect their car's reputation with the public. Safety features are also always the most modern/high-tech on Mercedes and German cars and new safety features are often on these fancy cars, so they will upcharge knowing if people want the newest technology fad, they are going to have to go spend 70 grand for it. If they charge normal prices for these features then they can't differentiate from Japanese cars. The thing is though, is that if they charge less, it will ironically make their brand less desirable. Similar to how sure, a shirt from Ralph Lauren costs 90 dollars, but a shirt from JCrew costs 60 dollars. It's the same idea with Mercedes. it's not that there is much difference quality-wise, and Ralph Lauren could charge way less for a standard item, but they choose not to in order to create clout and a feeling or idea of exclusivity. And that's the whole deal with why luxury cars don't have things that should be standard.

@@colechapman6976 Yeah, makes sense. I've actually noticed BMW's release of the new 2-Series has barley any options available with many previous options included in the base cost. I do know Audi certainly subscribes to the Mercedes business plan.

Not quite as objective as it should be. Why would you want a “lower stance” on an SUV? SUVs should have excellent ground clearance, be 4WD or AWD and should have a full sized spare even with run-flat tires. I’m not seeing that across the board. That’s a problem. Overall a good in-depth review of this vehicle though.

I just test drove one of these and agree with your review. The car didn’t distinguish itself in any way apart from the emblem. The fake leather sucks, the base 6 speakers makes for weak sound, and the driving dynamics are just OK. It’s a perfectly competent car but I expect more than that out of a Benz.
@colechapman6976
@colechapman6976 2 жыл бұрын
It's a Benz so you have to go to the top trims and more options to make it a true Benz. Optional extras are really important so driving around in the base model or even a trim above base is still not that great. That's why Japanese luxury vehicles are somewhat better because more things are standard, of course for good reason because they aren't as brand flashy as Mercedes
@jonothandoeser

The fake leather will still be looking good when your leather seats are stretched, sagging, and the color is rubbing off of the cowhide. MBTEX is BETTER than leather. Do the research!
