My advice, if a flash tune is available for your bike just get the tune. It’ll run better, it’ll have more benefits than the pc like changing thermometer temp or removing low gear power limiters, and it’ll make more power than the PC. Some new bikes can just electronically delete the pair valve and servo so you don’t even need block off plates or relays. Also the ecu is going to be as easy or easier to remove than a power commander will be to install. On top of all that, some of the power commander maps are suspect. Where as a good flash tune for your bike has been thoroughly developed. I’ll never buy another power commander if I have a choice.

KTM are missing out, not having a bike in this range. i have an sv650, and i absolutely love it. i just bought a z900, and i absolutely love it too. the sv has that "doesn't care how fast you're going" quality. until around 100 or so, where it kind of starts to peter out. but it's perfectly happy going fast or slow. the z900 on the other hand wants to go fast all the time. don't get me wrong, it's smooth and rock solid going slow, but that engine is a damn demon. for me anyway, coming from an sv. the z has nearly twice as much power. you have to have a lot of self control to not just whip through traffic at all times. it's always whispering in your ear how easy it would be to go twice as fast as everyone else. and it's smooth as silk all the way to 150. but anyway, i bought my sv brand new in 2018. it's got about 70k miles on it, and it's still ten tons of fun. no exaggeration... if it had another couple ticks on the tach, i could be happy with it forever, but i wanted more so i got the z900. and good god does it have more. i feel like maybe i'll eventually get that triumph just to have something that's not begging me with every fiber of its being to go 120+ all the time.

The Aprilia doesn’t really make that much sense to me. The price throws it right in with the likes of the MT-09, Street Triple, Duke 890, Z900, the new Monster etc., but it doesn’t have the power to compete with them. And then there’s the electronics which, although nice, seems a bit over the top for a bike with sub 100 hp and probably makes the bike more expensive than it needs to be.
@Stratocasterhead513 жыл бұрын
Aprilia priced themselves outside of their category. They should have cut the electronics out and slashed 2k off the bikes price. @@curtn7076 The torque is not an issue on the 660 engine but the flat spot is in the middle of RPM which is the restriction in the ECU. it is a nice and grunty engine with a smooth powerband.
@Fearless1543 жыл бұрын
@@curtn7076 I agree about mt07 but I don't know why they're saying the trident is torquey. It feels similar to rs660 but the trident engine revs so slowly. You must down shift consistently to keep the power going if you don't it will take a while till it revs back into the powerband, If you're not on point with your shifting you'll struggle to ride it on the canyon roads. Test ride both bikes back to back you'll see.

Am guessing that to have a semi relaxed freeway jount of say 70-75mph you need a 650cc+ right? Ive ridding harleys for too long and now with kids i dont want to spend that much money but i Don’t want the bike to be screaming bloody murder when I’m doing 70-75 on the freeway what are you guys think

Can you do a comparison of the r7, ninja 650, cbr 650, and rs 660?!
@organichotdog38073 жыл бұрын
My 2017 SV650 is a great motorcycle, and quicker 0 to 60 than the Triumph (according to a test by some Austrian KZbinrs). If you are going to rank these bike by how new they are, then ok, the SV is 6th. But I've ridden an FZ-07 and the torque is annoying when you first twist the throttle. I like my SV more and more each time I ride it. My legs are too long for the Z650. The Honda, I don't want to rev the snot out of a bike to get to the power. The Aprilia, that's a lot of money for a flat spot.
@1990-t1j3 жыл бұрын
If the SV had the immediate shove of the MT, it would be the perfect bike. Torque could never be annoying.
@organichotdog38073 жыл бұрын
@@1990-t1j Lots of torque is great, but it came on too abruptly, at least it did on the FZ-07 I rode for 3 days. I don't need all the torque at 2% throttle. Hopefully they improved it. If I were to buy a 2021 MT-07, I'd definitely replace that ridiculous looking headlight. But honestly, I would not sell my SV and replace it with any of these bikes. There isn't a big enough performance difference.

60mph isn’t that fast and these bikes are close enough as such that the one that’s fastest to 60 is the one you can launch best and wind out 2nd first on. 0-60 is a dumb stat for bikes especially over 600cc

Great to see a review of the 650 class, I was surprised that you put the Trident first as I would consider it to be the least practical bike in the test. If you are using the bike for commuting, where do you carry your lock ? No where to put a bit of luggage for a weekend away, I don't think you can fit a top box. The Honda would be my personal favourite but I'd have the Aprilia if I could afford it.

For me, all of these bikes are close to that “My First Big Bike” type motorcycle. The outlier being the Aprilia, as it is priced beyond the others. So one has to ask, with these bikes in order to make them better, it requires maybe a suspension upgrade, or a retuned ECU, or better brakes/lines, or even better tires? But at this level, is that even necessary? It seems to me, these represent a stopgap on the way to a super naked.
