2021 North Indian Ocean Cyclone Season Animation

Animation of the 2021 North Indian Ocean cyclone season as analyzed by Force Thirteen.
The season saw 5 named storms, 3 hurricane-strength storms, and only 1 major hurricane-strength storm: Tauktae, which became the strongest cyclone to make landfall over the state of Gujarat in India since 1998, and one of the strongest cyclones to ever affect the west coast of the nation. Tauktae was also the strongest storm of the season, and the most deadliest, with 174 deaths associated with the cyclone. Cyclone Yaas was the costliest storm of the season, with monetary damages of $2.4bn.

The 2021 NIO cyclone season, as the fourth consecutive above average cyclone season, was above average, producing 7 tropical storms, 3 cyclones and 1 major cyclone accourding to F13. The 1st named storm, Tauktae, also became the strongest cyclone. Yaas generated from a monsoonal system, and Gulab-Shaheen was a rare system deep into the Gulf of Oman. Two tropical storms, 04B and a unnamed storm, made landfalls over southeast India, causing some rainfalls. When we were all thinking the season is over, there was still a surprise-the WPAC exported a cloud cluster to NIO, which later became Jawad and marked the end of season in December. The season is a quite interesting season. Looking forward to the upcoming 2022 season!
