In this video I review the new Puig Windscreen now available for the 2021 Yamaha MT09/SP.

I got mine last week. I’m short at 5’6” all torso. I bought it more for looks, with the hope that maybe it will divert some wind. I’d say it did a great job in the way of.. I didn’t even think about it till I was almost at work and realized I didn’t battle the wind at all. Especially when I did a pull. Where I used to get the bobble head. I was completely fine. So for not having high expectations in the wind deflection department. I am beyond impressed, and in the looks department. I’m extremely happy. I didn’t know that about the material. Thanks for the fun fact. I’m definitely glad I pulled the trigger right away.

I'm short too. Did you have the wind pushing your head back less, more, or the same as without the windscreen at around 80mph? About where did the air stream hit your helmet? Around here cruising at 80 mph on the highway is the safest speed. I avoid interstate right now when heading to good winding roads.

@@jasoncarter7880 without it I noticed it around 80-90mph depending on the direction of the wind. Since getting the windscreen I barely ever get buffeting on my helmet. If I do just leaning forward slightly gets rid of it. It doesn’t take the wind off your helmet. It hits around my upper chest. But the way the wind is directed definitely helps keeping me from feeling like a bobble head.

Yeah i find it to drive all the vind to right underneath my helmet. Holy shit its loud, ive got tinitus now. Ive been using earplugs since i started, but probobly not the right fit for me

Nice brother! Happy you like it. I couldn’t be happier with mine. I honestly don’t know how anyone can think this screen looks ugly on this bike. I think it’s the best ascetic upgrade it can get and it’s functional too. That carbon is growing on me, have to admit I wasn’t a fan looking at the photos before production but it really does look awesome in person. 🙌🏼👌🏼

Ya man, totally agree. I was scared to order the Carbon. But in person I was really happy with the look for sure! If not the all black would have been my next pick. Then the blue. But your absolutely right. Fits the scheme of the bike perfect! Ride safe and Merry Christmas.

Had a Puig double bubble on my R6 and it made all the difference. Even back in 07 they were top notch products.

Same for me and my 2020 MT09 SP - it adds a lot of stability at very high (track) speeds, best in combinaison with full racing leathers and my (aerodynamic) AGV Pista RR 😎🏁🏁

@@yamayari8351 So i just installed mine last night. Rode the bike otw to work this morning and it felt great compared to no windshield at all. However, otw home this afternoon it felt like i don’t even have a screen at all. Maybe the wind is just too strong i guess.

@@johnvalencia8421 You probably had a crosswind. Meaning the wind was blowing from your side and not directly in front of you. In Florida When there is a cross wind you can feel everything. But more than likely the windscreen works on normal windy days.

Great video! How do you record your audio in the helmet?

I use the purple panda mic, it’s plugged into the go pro audio adapter, then that plugs into the go pro. I have a special case that holds the go pro and the audio adapter. Then I use a chinmount on my helmet to hold the go pro. Then I use iMovie to edit the footage.

I have the MRA screen for my MT-09 SP, I think it looks better than the Puig and it does the job well!

I'm debating between the mra, Puig and OEM. Can't decide what one I like better. The mra and Puig look like they should do about the same job. The oem looks the cleanest. Yari, I just got my front blinkers from tst. Pretty excited to install them. Thanks again for advertising.

Ok, I finally pulled the trigger. The MRA back ordered for 8 to 10 week to get to twisted throttle before sending out to me so I cancelled and ordered the dark smoked which I should hopefully have within a week. Wanted to watch this vid again because I wanted to know the mm of the screws. Wanted to make sure I had them.

It looks like you screwed then in with like a half turn but wasn’t sure. Had one of my Puig frame slider (R19) rubber end fly off. Lol I should have went with another brand but hadn’t been in the game for a minute. Found you in Insta.

I won't be getting a new bike till the spring time. But in your opinion should I get the sp over the base model.

I have the MT09 non sp... Upgraded suspension isnt worth it, but the cruise control is! You have to decide if the cruise control and colors (swingarm color as well) are worth it to you. I don't like the look of the SP myself, but if I had to do it all over again, Id personally get the SP and then wrap it and paint the wheels.

Question for ya man, I commute at 85mph so id like something. How is the wind on your head? Does it hit it harder/ more turbulence or same with nothing?

With the shorter screen that I had I felt wind basically from my lower chest and up. With this windscreen I feel wind about the neck up. But I cruise pretty fast and it does not really bother me too much. Feels better for sure than the shorter screen. But on super windy days on a naked bike I don’t think anything really helps lol. Hope that helps.

I’m 5’10 and honestly my helmet was good. Not much vibration at all of what I call the shakes. Was nice and steady.

I got Yamaha factory heated grips, the windscreen, the comfort seat, and a kaoko throttle lock so I’m all ready for some cruising. I live in Ohio right on Lake Erie so I tried to do everything I could to really extend the season. If I can get 9 months of riding in I’m lucky

I cant help but believe most buyers of naked motorcycles do so to save money which if you ask me is rather proven by pricepoints and how much value is attached to a few bits of plastic...but I mean sure a manufacturer also typically adds some tech to sweeten the pot but the point is naked pretty much equates to stripped down low ball pricepoint machines....But then why oh why are there no well engineered fairing kits to upgrade a naked bike?? Would it really be that hard for aftermarket company? To where they would have to charge so much that no one would buy them? Hard to believe given how cheaply things can be mass produced...IF there were a nice one for the MT09 I would rather have gone that route than buying the Tracer 9gt like I DID...why? Because the T9gt is a porker! and it NOT just the fairing pieces it is largely to do I bet with the subframe built to support a bunch of two up touring weight which translates to a 485 pound version of the MT09...and make no mistake the Tracer IS an MT09 same frame same engine same wheels only SEVENTY pounds heavier! WTF?? See if there were a nice fairing/windscreen kit? For someone like me that is honestly not going to do ANY two up touring? Man that could be so sweet! I just cant live with a naked bike ...

It’s just the style, naked vs street, I love both but I prefer to ride my naked due to the low end torque and mid range speed! As far as looks??? Yamaha windscreen i feel is way better, cause u dont get all the wind right beneath ur helmet, wich makes u deaf. Even with earplugs😂

How has your puig windscreen been? I had bought it last year for the bike and I felt like it made the helmet wind so much worse so I took it off and returned it but I’m thinking about buying it again. Maybe it was in my head. Do you have that issue as well?

​@@Dantheman4khad the same issue, i now have permanent tinitus. Even though ive used airplugs. Ive even tried 3 different helmets,3 different windscreens also. Puig was the worst when it came to noise. But best for deflecting wind. But ill choose some resitance over going completely def. I wanna try the eremax screen. It looks so damn good
