Yamaha RMAX 1000 takes aim at the Polaris General XP 1000!
On Sept. the 3rd 2020, Yamaha revealed the details on their brand new two and four-seat Wolverine RMAX2 and RMAX4 1000 sport/utility SXS models.
The all new Wolverine RMAX’s come well appointed with an impressive spec sheet which seems to blur the lines even further between the sport and sport/utility segments.
According to Yamaha the 1000cc class is far and above the largest in the sport/utility segment among trail riders and explorers, and it’s a class they’ve been absent from until now.
With specifications that far exceed most of the current 1000cc class competitors, the new Wolverine RMAX appear poised to give the Polaris General XP 1000 a tough battle for the 1000cc sport/utility crown while potentially capturing more of the naturally aspirated sport segment from drivers wishing for a CVT equipped, 64” wide machine from a Japanese manufacturer.

Perfect timing, I’ve been looking into getting a recreational SxS in the fall and this fits the bill perfectly. I wanted a 4 seater and was thinking new Polaris ranger, General or Can Am defender. But THIS just snuck in there and got my vote. It’s a reliable Yamaha, it’s a 4 seater if you need it to be without the length of a school bus.It has a modern cabin with optional tablet which you can remove and mess with when not riding an e-brake and full cab enclosure with heat from factory. And a 10 year belt warranty ??? Damn I’m gonna be ready for some excellent Fall and Winter riding! Awesome review Chad.

A very nice machine, but I ordered a the new 850, my pocket book was not able to go another $ 4000.00 dollars. I think it will be a little while before they start releasing the 1000 and the 850. I called the company in Georgia last week they said they were working half staff and had nothing much right now in the warehouse. Hopefully they will be releasing some toward the end of October. Thanks for video......I will put a video up on the new 850 when I get it. They did make some good changes on the 850 also. If some extra money comes in I might change my order to the 1000. Must happen soon though. God bless.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Congratulations on the new machine. It's tough to cover all of the changes to the all of the new machines but we did notice some pretty significant updates to the 850. The last X2 we reviewed was a 2019. With the updates of 2020 and 2021 Yamaha has done well at refining that machine. Enjoy!

Yamaha always makes a top notch quality product. I would buy this over any other manufacturer just for belt life and how my 2014 grizzly 700 has held up. They finally put a 1000cc motor in a all around sxs. A Honda would be a close second in my opinion but I want something I know won't have a dozen recalls on it and for the next 3 years all I would have to do is change the oil and maybe tires.

If you notice, none of the Japanese manufacturers are going after the turbo segment at this time. We have wondered if they're avoiding it because the naturally-aspirated sports segment is moving at a slower pace. They wouldn't have to release a brand new vehicle every 3 years. Hopefully this is an indication that Yamaha is ready to go head-to-head with Polaris in all the premiere classes.

For me the coolest thing is that there’s now a 4-seater with essentially the same wheelbase as many 2 seater sxs’s out these days, PLUS 100hp. Obviously gonna be a killer utility/trail machine but I’d be curious to hear impressions regarding the rmax4 sportiness. I have serious mixed emotions from this. I am really excited that they came out with this machine. My opinion it has stepped up the machine and its capabilities on par with the competition. RMAX is cool for 3 reasons.. 1. It's an omage to the Yamaha VMAX and VMAX means maximum initial velocity. 2. RMAX means a maximum roughness depth in a evaluation length, and 3. It can also mean max effective range of weapons.. So RMAX was a pretty good choice in my opinion.. But Wolverine, that'll always be a 4wheeler in my book 👍

This is awesome , but I just purchased a new Can am maverick Trail 1000 DPS . Everyone’s knocking Polaris , but if you think they’ll just stand still you’re silly . 1-2 years and they’ll have their response to it . I’ve owned about all brands . Polaris is like Ford to me , they pump out the best performing updates quickly , but fall short of max potential due to quality control problems , or lack of care either way . I just don’t think North American manufacturers will ever match Japanese quality control . I think it comes down to character . Greed and quantity reigns here . My Maverick Trail has all kinds of drive train pop and clunk from under the front end while articulating over much of anything , and rough cvt engagement and sounds hard on the belt when it engages . As well as grease zerks EVERYWHERE. This is simply NOT NEEDED in any form or fashion . Sealed compressed bushings never failed on any Japanese machine I’ve had no matter the miles or abuse . Copy them . Stop trying to make more money from parts etc . I was needing 50” width so I only had two options sadly , and I chose the can am over the 900 trail rzr .

Not much of a comparison between the general and the rmax... as the rmax will work. 10 year belt warranty? Generals struggle to last 1 year. Rzrs even less. Really no need for a shootout unless you want to humiliate polaris.

@@UTVonDemand Then you obviously don't sell units or OEM parts. 🤣 find me a dealer that stocks pioneer wheel bearings. Now find me one that DOESN'T stock RGR/RZR wheel bearings. 2/3 of any multi-line dealership's parts inventory is dedicated to polaris... not because they're more popular but because they break exponentially more often. Go to the parts counter at your local polaris/Honda/Kawasaki/yamaha dealer and ask them. They don't stock anything but batteries, tires, belts, oil, brakes, and filters for the JDM UTVs. They have polaris bushings, ball joints, bearings, belts, ignitions switches, CV shafts, etc. ON THE SHELF AT ALL TIMES.

@@triple6758 we are totally into what you're saying. We are happy to see Yamaha pushing the fringes of performance in the sport utility class but our personal bank accounts keep us aware of the need for fun affordable machines. It's the reason that our sister Channel ATV on demand is constantly advocating for the release of new affordably priced sport quads. Currently in side by sides the fun really begins around $15,000. Here's betting the machine you're asking for at this point would cost every bit of $12,000. That's still pretty far from twenty Grand but not too far from the entry level Wolverine X2.

@@UTVonDemand I bought a Mule Pro MX for 8999. It's the closest thing that exists to the original Rhinos IMO. I also recently purchased a 2020 KLX300 dirt bike from Kawasaki. They seem to be the only manufacturer concerned with the 'average man market' and are offering machines with plenty of performance and capability at a great price. I may have chosen a different manufacturer if there were other options available for the price. Again, the performance wars are leaving an entire segment of buyers behind...IMO. A friend got a Polaris XP Ranger this spring...cost him 17,000. I got a great dirt bike *and a great UTV for less. I see buyers shying away from the costly machines in the future. Perhaps I will be proven wrong.
@UTVonDemand
@UTVonDemand 4 жыл бұрын
@@triple6758 it's funny you mention those machines. We've been considering reviewing that mule because of its sporty styling an entry-level price and our ATV publication was considering reviewing the klx300 because you can hardly buy a used dirt bike for the price that thing is brand new. Yes, Kawasaki is doing a good job of catering to the entry level Price Market.

Sorry about the complaining, it’s me just frustrated at things. For instance go test drive a 55,000 1/2 ton truck and try to do a donut in a open safe parking lot when there is no one around. It will not let you. But now if I paid for a truck I should get the black key that gives me access to the babysitter that comes with the truck and turns it off. So I can use the truck. I get it though some Jack ass will mess it up for us, like it has in the past. The same reason Horsepower, in my opinion is overpriced.
@UTVonDemand
@UTVonDemand 4 жыл бұрын
@@ericbuchta9765 LOL, yeah, that's pretty ridiculous. Pay extra, get the off-road package, not be able to do a donut. That would suck. We're not completely sold on the computer-controlled suspension systems yet for high-level drivers but we have found the various throttle modes to be pretty handy on other machines. Our biggest complaint with all the technology is the price that comes with it but that's the price you pay. We will let you know pretty soon if you can do a donut in the rmax.
@UTVonDemand
@UTVonDemand 4 жыл бұрын
@@ericbuchta9765 if you're talking about the selector for the different throttle modes we have seen this work well on other machines. We have a feeling that rock and mud mode will make the throttle much less sensitive when you start pushing the gas pedal making it less susceptible to unwanted inputs from petal Bob. Where sport or performance mode feels like a directly connected cable that start dishing out the throttle early. Our experience with electronic throttle is that it has worked well. We would rather see electronic throttle as than blaring stereos in the woods. That's just one guy's opinion though.
