What made you decide to switch to BJU for everyone? I’m currently only homeschooling my eldest and found BJU last week after I had already ordered his kindergarten curriculum (which I’m gonna keep cause I do think it will work OK for him), but it will be on my list to strongly consider for 1st grade.

I changed because I needed something that would help with my little kids and middle age kids. I have used BJU before, but I mainly was using Rod and Staff and some Abeka. I use Math U See for math. When I was looking at what I needed this year, I knew it would be a lot. But when I looked at BJU, it just seemed it was perfect for what my kids needed. All my kids learn differently, but this curriculum was very visual and my boys need that. Where as for me I don’t t like all the pictures. For me getting all BJU for all my kids, I’ll have all the teacher books and won’t change curriculum for awhile now that I have so much to work with now.

@@10KidsandAGarage Math U See is what we got for this year, I’m really excited about it and think it should work really well with my kiddo. BJU does seem to have a lot for their teachers manuals, but it’s nice how it works for different learning styles. We’ll be praying your next school year goes well!

I have to remind myself that the public school climate is just not an option so “free” schooling is out of the question. Which means that I have to look at the price of homeschooling in light of private Christian school prices for multiple kids….it’s not even a question about whether or not there’s still a cost savings ❤️ in addition to the main reasons why we chose to homeschool of course!

Exactly! I have homeschooled now for 17 years and this is the first year I spent this much. My first was around $500.00 but that was because I was just figuring out what I THOUGHT I needed. In the last two years a broke away from Rod and Staff as my go to elementary curriculum. Which is awesome. But I needed something fresh for my newer learners. Every child is different. So this next year I found that BJU will be a great curriculum for most of my kids. There are so many free resources for homeschooling. And the more you homeschool, you are able to find that great deal on what you actually need. Now that I have the overall Parent Teacher books, it will cut cost for when I need them again. But I do agree with you. What cost is there, to have your kids home with you and teach them the value we want to set for them.

That's how I look at it now as well!!! Every year when I see the total for all my kids I just shrug my shoulders and say "is cheaper then private school for one of them" haha it's better to feel like you're cheating the system and giving your kids a private school level education (or higher) then to think about trying to spend as close to nothing as possible.

I started homeschooling two of my children at first, boy and girl and different learning styles. So right off the bat I had to figure out what was going to work. They were in 3rd and 6th grade when I pull them out of school. So I hade to fit in what they were already learning. Then with my next two, I thought I could teach them the same grade because they were only 18 months apart. It didn’t work, so I had to figure what worked for them. The more I had, I already was learning what worked, and had books that I could use. Plus we have a great homeschool group that shares ideas. I also have family that homeschools, so we could share the difference of what would work or what has. I hope that helped.

I just found your channel while searching BJU spelling🙂I homeschool 1 child right now, my other three kiddos are 2 and under. So cool to see all the curriculum! For the BJU spelling, do you find the teacher book to be necessary? I wasn’t sure if I needed that and the textbook as well.

Usually for the younger grades it’s not necessary. But I have use Rod and Staff curriculum, and I needed it. Their curriculum was set up different. All the information was in the teacher book and not in the child’s workbook. So unless the child’s book isn’t clear then I would get the teacher book. I hope that helps.

It can be so overwhelming to choose the right curriculum. You want to choose a curriculum best suited for a child, but then choosing one that will suit multiple children would be a challenge. There’s so many different options now. Good for you for getting ahead of the rush for materials in case there’s delays in shipping at the last minute. Have a great wk!😄
