FYI. After owning the 2022 MDX for a year now the car showing the wrong speed limit thing is because the front facing camera is reading the speed limit signs on the road in front of you. It sometimes miss reads route number signs and displays them as the speed limit. As soon as you pass the sign you will notice the car will change the speed limit displayed. My kids thought this was hilarious and asked us to follow the cars recommendation. It was good for a laugh every now and then but since we live close to a Rt100 its pretty common for us to see the car display 100 Mph and the novelty of it has kind of worn off.

Good review. I have had my 2022 MDX for almost 2 years and 18,000 km. So far, I have had no maintenance issues, my MDX was built at the East Liberty Auto Plant, a Honda automobile factory in East Liberty, Ohio, United States. When you have 15% life left on your oil you will get a maintenance notification with a code. At 18k I got a second code 0169 which was oil change, rotate tires, change rear differential fluid and general inspection for safety. You can look these codes up by googling them. I have no issues with the true touch pad interface (it has a very short learning curve and I'm 74 years old). It is easy to use and much better than reaching to touch a screen with your fingers. I moved up from the RDX to the 2022 MDX for the extra cargo space, comfortable interior and because I wanted the reliable Honda 6 cylinder motor with no turbos rather that the 4 cylinder in the RDX (RDX now only comes in 4 cyl at this time). The MDX has plenty of pep for my driving needs although some might want more horsepower. I get about 10.6 L/100km on the highway. It does handle very nicely for a large SUV and similar to the smaller RDX which I used to own. My steering wheel does not moan and squeak at all when it adjusts to different positions so not sure about that comment (maybe unique to that vehicle). The HeadsUp (HUD) works great but the odd time the cameras miss a speed sign or tells you the incorrect speed but that is rare, I must say HUD is great to have for navigation system GPS when going on a trip and easy to change from km to miles. I find the 10-speed transmission in my MDX shifts very smoothly, so not sure why they have an issue in this review but perhaps they are more sensitive to this than I am. If I have a complaint, it is with the quality of the leather in the seats. Certainly not the quality I think you would get in a BMW or Mercedes but the MDX is much cheaper to their comparable model. The leather in the seat area becomes stretched and a bit saggy (no longer tight like it should be). I thought the driver's seat in my 2017 RDX where more comfortable on a long drive and better leather. Overall though I would give the 2022 MDX a big thumbs up so far.

The touch pad is definitely something you love or you hate. I love it. Nothing worse than finger prints all over a screen. the placement of the pad is perfect. I’ve heard that Apple controls the interface for CarPlay so the “track pad” mode is dictated by Apple not Acura.

Completely agree. There's a learning curve on the true touch but after a couple of weeks I am used to it and I find it logical to use. No more fingerprints smudges on the screen. And I do wish Apple will allow Acura to keep its touch mode when on CarPlay.

I always wanted to purchase an Acura MDX. Finally, in September 2022, I purchased a 2023 brand new Acura MDX. Sadly within 3 months, the color on the passenger door started bubbling up. So took the car in and Acura repainted it. Then after 7 months of purchase, the backseat leather seat started peeling off. I do not even have passengers in the backseat that often - maybe 4 times since I bought it. So I took it back and am scheduled to replace the seat. My question is what happened to quality of these cars? I called Acura and Honda and asked for extension on my warranty because I plan to keep this car for a long time and that was denied. Acura offered me a $300 gift card!!!!!! The car was over $64,000 and all they offered is $300!! Basically, Acura does not stand behind their product. I asked to return the car but that period has passed. I consider this a joke and needles to say I do not recommend Honda or Acura at this point based on the response I am getting from them.

I like that I can just switch the mode to Sport to get better gear ratios when going up and feel more powerful and to Comfort mode while cruising. The touch pad takes some getting used to but not really that bad. The transmission feels smooth and I did not experience any rough shifting on the 500+ mile trip. Love the stereo, the 16-way adjustable power seats, panoramic moon roof and heads up display. The only thing I can complain about is the small cargo area with the 3rd row seat up. I’ve had my A-Spec since April and am averaging near 22 mpg with about 60/40 hwy/city mix. Better MPG would be a bonus for this vehicle. It was one of the things that gave me pause when purchasing. I’ve taken the car on 2500 road trip this summer and have plans for another later in the summer and the car is performing great. Tire noise (OEM Bridgestones) was a little loud the first 1000 miles or so, but that has subsided or I am just playing the excellent sound system louder. It took a minute to get used to the touch pad and push button gear shift , but I’m used to it now and over all like it. As far as engine power, a little more low end torque would be great. But for normal driving it has plenty of get up and go and you just have to get your foot down into the gas pedal if you need to move out. I have no problems getting on the highway or getting around trucks on the highway with a fully loaded vehicle. Lastly, the MDX handles well. Not just for a 3 row SUV. If you are used to driving a sedan you’ll be pleased with the MDX ride and handling. My previous car was a 2017 Cadillac CTS which handled like it was on rails. The MDX isn’t that good, but it’s good enough to put a smile on my face on a twisty road.

Ditto Errol B. I have a MDX Advane since last August. Acura was remiss in one big item: The lack of keeping a Hybrid MDX in the lineup. Like the 2018-2020s before it, it would be a No-Brainer today to pay $1800 more for an MDX Hybrid with More HP , More Torque and better MPGs !! I traded my 2019 MDX Advance (non Hybrid model) on an ealry Lease termination deal August 2021. I got bit my the offer Bug from my original 2019 Acura dealer and a a $1K Loyalty offer from Acura to "trade up" to a 2022. I did all the research on You Tube Review videos, but after seeing and test driving it - I was immediatley Hooked. Like a Big Fish. At 70 yo, I really don't need a 3 row SUV (although I love the comfortable size, but even with grandkids, don't need this size vehicle). I mean, who really puts adults in any of these so called 3 Row SUVs on a regular basis or at any time. It's just an American marketeting Gimmick. After 11 months, sitting in my upper driveway at home, It Still Winks At Me Every Morning. I don't loke to use the term LOVE for cars (I reserve that for people / Family), But I REALLY LIKE this car's design and ride. The 10 speed AT is a bit quirky at times, but I either hit the D button on the tranny into DS or put the driving mode into Sport Mode or sometimes when i feel Frisky, do both, and then see what happens - a true Sports SUV.

We have had a 2023 MDX for almost a year and I 100% agree with this comment. Amazing vehicle with great power for what it is but could use better MPG and some more low-end torque (a turbocharger would help with that). I was talking to a tanker driver one morning while filling up for my 357 mile drive to work and he told me they add 100 gallons of Ethanol to every 1000 gallons in the DFW area but tankers headed to West Texas don't add Ethanol at all. Both are extremely smooth over rough pavement and handle very nicely especially for their size. If we were to get a Q7 though it would definitely ride/handle better than our MDX as we would get one with air suspension and all wheel steering (neither of which the Q7 we test drove had). We chose the MDX over the Q7 though as the Q7 3rd row is a laughable joke and if we didn't need a 3rd row we would've skipped over the Q7 (and MDX) and ended up with a high-spec Q8. Our MDX cabin is also extremely quiet just like most other luxury vehicles but I did find the cabin in the Q7 we test drove to be a bit quieter than the one in our MDX.

We have a 22 Tech version of the subject MDX (same color combo). One year in, hitting 30k today. It’s been a fantastic overall car and made for an enjoyable round tripper between Jersey and Arizona. I will say that one should go for the Type S if living in higher elevations. Here in NJ (sea level), the base NA V6 is more than adequate but, it felt weak when in the higher elevation around Denver. (We had the 20 version previously and we can confirm that it’s a stronger performer than the 22 non-Type S.) So, go for the Type S if performance is a top tier consideration. I can also confirm that the fuel economy is subpar, as is most of Acura’s lineup. (That’s probably the main reason why the Integra has a pedestrian 1.5L motor. Read: CAFE) Regarding the touchpad interface, you do get used to it but it truly sucks nonetheless. Seems like Acura product planners ignored how bad this was panned with Lexus, who at least integrated a touchscreen feature when it was upgraded. And the Acura navigation system is absolutely terrible. So much so that one should just use Apple CarPlay navigation features instead. After 6 months of owning the 2022 MDX Advance, my average out of town fuel usage is stil around 17.6 mpg. That front suspension noise is still there whenever I slow drive on speed bumps, road dips or uneven pavement... I thought it will eventually go away but I was wrong. At high speed (70mph and above) I have this slight vibration on the steering wheel as well... possibly wheel balance issue. I traded in my 2016 MDX Tech ENT for this car and took advantage of the "chip shortage" scenario and got a good offer on my old car. Still, this car I find it luxurious but not at par with Mercedes Benz luxurious level. I learned how to use the true touch tech and took me some time. Touch screen will be useful when using Apple Car play, but not necessary. The kids like the customisable ambient lighting, the huge sunroom and the soft suspension. But... I am not impressed with the suspension. It feels noisy whenever it hit small potholes or uneven road on higher speed. Looking forward for the next 6 months.

At least the MDX will be more reliable plus it gives you a lot for your money imo so I can forgive it for being bad on fuel. I do wish the tank could've been bigger though as we average around 300 miles of fuel in our car while we were able to average 350-400 in our old MDX, QX60, and M550i.

Where do I start? I have a 2022 Tech package that I've had for a year. I live in Florida (no mountains or major hills) and am not getting 22 miles per gallon. The transmission is jerky at low speeds no matter what drive mode, the weird electronic issues, (brake warnings that tell you not to drive the vehicle, radio volume issues at ignition, intermittent charging pad that causes distractions from phone charging and then not charging, the fact that I have to turn off features every time I drive to avoid either abrupt stopping at low speeds by the vehicle every time it gets close to a flower or bush or a slowing during emergency lane changes), and I just read recently that it is recommended to change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles which I have never had to do at such low mileage in any vehicle I've owned. I had to buy a kit and spare tire for the car which has come standard with every car I have EVER purchased and I've owned many cars in my 47 years. The oil change is based on usage and not mileage which is also weird to me considering Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW do not have this same policy. I bought this car thinking it was a good 7 passenger alternative to the 5 passanger Lexus RX 350 I traded to get it. I learned that Acura makes an inferior product that seemed geared heavily to making money after the sale instead of giving value for the price. I have never owned an Acura or Honda product before and will never purchase another. I feel like I have taken a step down in my pursuit of a quality SUV and look forward to the day that I can trade this car in for something better. One last thing, both Kia and Hyundai offer better tech packages that Acura for less money. I hope this post helps. No sour grapes, just extreme disappointment in Acura quality.

Should've gotten a 2023 imo as it would not have all these problems. 1st model year vehicles are usually not a good idea. Also the MDX mpg rating is BS (I'd know as we've had a 2023 for close to a year) but sadly there's nothing anyone can do about it.

@CarGeek360 My mpg is crappy in the city....about 17mpg. On the highway I have gotten as high as 28mpg for a 300 mile road trip. Initially I thought the highway mpg was also bad when I was getting around 22mpg on previous trips. Then i realized that unlike my sedan which starts a new trip mpg with every start, the MDX carries over the average from your previous trips. So to get the actual mpg for a specific trip you have to reset the mpg gauge.

I have the 22 MDX advanced Package. Now it has 21k miles. I bought it new in Dec 21. My AC has had issues cooling since it first starting warming up in April time frame when I needed the AC. It would even take a long while to cool the car when it was in the 80s outside. It’s super humid where I live and now it’s getting up to 110 on some days. But avg temp is 100 daily until another month before it will start cooling off. It’s been awful. I’ve had it looked at twice a few months apart at the Acura dealership I purchased it. They keep saying nothing is wrong with it. They charge it and let it run for three hours at the dealership, get it to their standard of passing and that’s that. I’m not sure if it’s normal for the AC’s not to be as good in Acura’s but I had a 2014 MDX and loved it. Never had an issue. This one takes an hour to cool off the entire car. It will be hot and like a water cooler AC feeling if you can imagine that, at about thirty minutes when it’s really hot out. It can get cool, but it takes way too long. I cannot grocery shop on a hot day without taking an ice chest. Is anyone else having these issues?
@chagodlee2 жыл бұрын
Gotta admit the AC is lacking. The air coming out never feels cold just coolish. Hopefully if there are enough complaints on this issue. Acura will have a answer.

Buying a 1st model year of a car is never a good idea unless all the components in the vehicle have already been tested in other vehicles that have been around for over a year. The best decision would've been to wait for a 2023 MDX all along but I do genuinely hope you can get these issues resolved as you truly have an amazing vehicle.

I have the same car and, incredibly, your gas mileage is a bit better than mine--I get 16 to 17 MPG. I don't have to drive it to work and I use it on both freeway and side roads, but do not drive it much at all. Service people suggested that more driving would produce better gas mileage. I don't think so... As for the touch pad's admittedly awkward usefulness, I am an average-height woman, and making that screen a touch screen would be too far for me to safely reach while driving. Otherwise, I like the car. I, too, wanted the Type S, but it was very late being available and my then lease was expiring. I had a leased 2019 MDX SH-AWD prior to this MDX. I suspect that the MPG is no better for the Type S.

Ryan, you and the other Edmunds' reviewers are generally spot on about the Pros and Cons. Despite the squeaky Steering wheel power adjuster, your assessment of the 10 speed AT is conquerable. Hit the DS button on the Tranny or Sport driving mode and even better do Both. The TTIP does require a learning curve, and after 11 months, i'm still not a fan of it. As described, when using Apple Car Play or Android Auto ( I have AA) , the TTIP is Terrible. like a Slow Mouse pad. What the hell was Acura thinking??? Hopefully (if possible), they can issue some sort of a software update?? I'll offer a point of advice that the readers of this video can try. Every car of recent vintage utilizes ECU /TCM modules. They "learn' the way you drive the car over a certain amount of miles. I learned some time ago, that the ECU/TCM can be reset (saw it on a Infinti Blog Forum a few years ago). Here's tghe protocol: Withouit stepping on the brake, hit the throttle 2X, the dashboard lights are on , but the car is Not, then press the gas pedal to the Floor - hold there for real count of 30 secons (1 Mississippi , etc), then release the pedal, step on the brake and start the car normally. Now drive the car - Hard , quick accelerations, you know Step on it. You will feel a slight difference in the tranny response. I drive mine mostly for local suburban trips down local roads with occassional trips to Jersey (230 miles roundtrip), so I do tgis every 20-30 days or so. As far as MPGs ....yes disappointing. It's a little better the past 2 months because of 2 reasons: More miles on it (5300 now) and the end of Winter Blend gas here in the NE (NY area). Winter Blend will drive it down up to 10% , I find anyway. PS: You shoul have emphasized the exquisite ELS Stereo system !!

Yea, I'm sorry... but while I do feel 10 is too many gears, this transmission is a vast improvement from the garbage ZF-9 that was in the predecessor. With that same token, given the power of competitors, the 3.0 Turbo V6 should be standard... I had a 2018... the V6 is classic and smooth, but having moved to the RDX, you can't beat the torque from a turbo. Acura should then redevelop the Sport Hybrid version, incorporating maybe more NSX DNA as the Type-S.
