I agree with Zach and I’ve said this for the past year after researching this class for 2 years. If you’re looking for something fun to drive in this class the options are limited. Power doesn’t equate to “fun”. The Q7 has power but boring to drive. Double front wishbones we’re removed at MMC and the upgraded audio system with 23 speaker can only be had in the SQ7 now. Not to mention the engine change at MMC. I’ve had my MDX for a month and amazed by the flexibility between comfort and fun with the dynamic modes. The air suspension is really a marvel. I also like how it’s fun but luxurious options are available. Most sporty trims make you get uncomfortable seating and Acura really did a good job balancing the sport and the luxury. I get several compliments on my Advance trim and converted two people in the month I’ve had it that either owned German or had plans to purchase. There’s simply nothing in this class that offers the fun to drive aspect with the feature content as Zach mentioned. Particularly when you’re talking air suspension with adaptive dampers and the double front wishbone suspension.

Agree about the power not equaling fun, especially in Audis as we sometimes call them in Europe, wheel barrows on wheels as the engine is for some reason in the front bumper instead of before it or above the axle. Options are limited in North America to certain trims because you rarely order cars. Most are bought premade and most are financed. Here you can get the cheapest Q7 with the only option being the 23 speakers, on 18 inch wheels with the 4 cylinder

We've had our MDX TypeS for a month now. Love the ride in any of the different modes. Just take your pick for how you feeling. Turning radius is fantastic. During parking maneuvers the surround camera is terrific and can also be enabled anytime moving forward or reversing. The track pad is easy to master by feel once you spend a day or two with it(I won't miss the smudges on a touch screen). The things I don't like: 1) the seam stitching on the front center console is kinda irritating when wearing short sleeves. 2) Paint has way to much orange peel to be Acura's top model.

I completely agree with Zach - MDX Type S does not have a direct competitor. None of the Germans can compete with it at the same price tag (you're looking at $10-15K over the Type S price with comparable options). And Koreans and Japanese cannot offer anything similar when it comes to the whole package.

Very disappointing gas milage, about 4 to 6 MPG less than an X5 , an Acadia, or a Cadillac XT5. The X5 with the inline 6 turbo has more to it than the MDX. Heads up display in the X5 allows more information. The heated steering and seats get much warmer in the X5. The XT5 is an overall nice vehicle but the sound system is very boxy sounding and the steering lacks anything that would be called precise and interactive. The X5 has 6 inches less length behind the front seats than the MDX. I found the X5 steering less interactive and the suspension bouncier. The MDX air suspension adjustments have more impact than those on the X5 and even in comfort mode the suspension does not sway in turns or produce a boat sensation. The Harmon Kardon in the X5 does not compare with the top end system in the MDX. After a few days I learned to run the touch pad despite my initial dislike, still the BMW interface is better. And I NEVER EVER would have gone with a red interior but it completely negates the reviewer's comments, contrasting exceedingly well with the black. The ventilated seats function very well. I never knew I 'needed' massaging front seats! Overall I find the MDX just plain fun to drive while providing the space we need. If you only have a set of clubs or one or two suitcases , no dogs, and never do a Costco or Sam's club run, then a smaller, sportier vehicle would suffice but if you need more space than an X5 and do not want to go for an X7, and you can tolerate the lower MPGs and well as the shorter distance to empty, this is well worth considering. And this from a BMW driver of over a decade.

One thing that car designers (and the other 90% of the human population) don't consider when it comes to these trackpads, is that their use is a bit of a struggle for left-handed people. Sure, most of us have gotten used to many things in a right-handed world (including a right-handed computer mouse), but fine tactile motor skills, as required on these trackpads, is really tough for the lefties.

I have an RDX and I’m one of those who has gotten used to the track pad and like it 😂. Basically the track pad is the “touch screen” so to speak. Wherever my figure touches on the pad correlates to the same place on the screen. However, I agree they should make the screen a touch for one major reason, navigation. Entering an address on the touch pad is pretty cumbersome to get the right letters and numbers entered in ( my fingers must be too fat). The next suggestion I have for Acura is take the NSX power train with its hybrid system and put that in a new large suv to compete with large infinity, Lexus, maybe even Yukon and Wagoneer. Probably will never happen as Honda has never really gone that big but wouldn’t that be interesting…..😂

It was only about $1,500 more than it's regular trim equivalent (eg Tech package to Tech package) and for that you got 31 more horse power, better fuel economy, and adaptive suspension as standard. That's a lot for just $1,500 extra. Wist an MSRP around $53K it was cheaper than similarly equipped vehicles in it's class.

MDX has always been one of the sportiest mid-size SUV on the market, luxury or mainstream. On the other hand, Pilot which based on the same architecture is a boring one. Acura really does their magic on suspension setting. When it first came out in 2001, MDX strikes a more sublime handling and ride compromise than the equally new X5. That's despite BMW has a sharper and heavier steering with sportier suspension. Despite Acura isn't getting anything right in recent decade. They have always got the MDX right. Great review. I enjoyed your presentation. I feel it was complete and well thought out. As far as my opinion on the vehicle, I test drove the 2023 Type-S Advance and I liked a lot about it. The items that I think they should change are the top speed limiter of 110 MPH. Other SUVs in this segment are 130-140 MPH. For a Type-S, that’s pretty disappointing and was a horrible decision on Acura’s part. The other item (which isn’t a deal breaker) is the middle seat fold down arm rest for the second row. Sitting back there, I noticed how low it was for my elbow. They should find a way to raise that to an even height for comfort. Side note, they should also offer an all gloss black wheel option. Outside of that, I think its a huge step forward for Acura. Let’s not talk about current interest rates of 5.5% at it’s lowest. Considering I have a GMC SUV at 2% and a Shelby at 2.5%, that’s horrible. I suppose we can thank the current administration.

No doubt that Acura has something unique here. I think of this as a bit of a "halo" car in that it obviously doesn't sell in large quantities. That said, its a bit shocking that the only real competitors require spending MORE than $83K - for a 2 1/2 row performance SUV. Did anyone ever think we would see the day where the JD Power rankings for an Acura would be lower than Chrysler? If that isn't a wake-up call I don't know what is. The consumer reports study on reliability instantly looks flawed, skewed, or bias when it shows chevrolet, jeep, and ford as high as they are. There is no way. I'd question what they are calling "problems" or how that is calculated. I have owned many US auto makes and every single one has had problems. Some as severe as engine failure on the recent Chevy 6.2 V8 motor that was related to their DFM system.
