A view from the UK. Can i ask you, have you ever driven at 290Kmh? That is just short of 180mph, i have. Anyone and i mean ANYONE that wishes to do these speeds go to the Nürburgring or even a local race track and find out how much stopping distance it takes. To try to do anything over 160Kmh on a motorway is insane. You maybe the best driver on the road, but it ain't you, it's the other idiots out there doing the unexpected on you. Comfortable quite cars lull you into a false sense of security. Ask my brother, traffic cop that pulls over many women for speeding. Oh officer, i didn't know i was going so fast, the car is so quiet. Why do i need it to be stable at 180mph Alpina and where am i going to go that fast? Do you think the BMW 550i is not stable?

@@robertstancer4469 idk if you replied to me or to the other guy, but: yes, I‘ve been in an b3 before, close to top speed (German Autobahn). And I know that no one needs those speeds. But it’s not the cars that make the whole process dangerous. It’s other people who merge into your lane without using their indicators etc. Why you need to me stable at those speeds? Well if the car can drive it, it should drive those speeds with the highest security, no? Thats the whole point of alpina. To be sporty and fast, but on the lowkey side with a lot of comfort.

@@rs6akrapovic I had also one.. Leased.. But with my child and my wife that scratches everything with their nails and makes all dirty with her make up... It was extremely expensive to give it back.. Minor dents.. Parking lot fuckery or jealous people.. With some other scratches or its sensible interior I had to bleed a lot.. Now I have a cla 35 shooting brake.. She drove into it with her also expensive car by accident.. Parked beside me.. Crashed into me.. Now I buy a Dacia if that goes on and on or no wife's, just cars!

I love this generation 5 series so much, glad BMW managed to spare it from the atrocious stuff they've been doing to the other models. The only evidence of self sabotage is the gauges that look like they've been pulled out from a CRV. Also much kudos to Alpina, more luxurious and livable than a regular 5, yet more performance than an M5, without any unnecessary racer boy aesthetic fanfare.

What Alpina did to that car is just short of phenomenal. The range of the suspension is a master piece, it is so much softer in comfort /plus and so much stiffer in sport plus than the regular G31, its an incredible flex from being a Rolls Royce up to being ferrari like. The adaptive mode is also significantly different, its gets stiffer much more quickly. Also the programming of the gearbox is much better, especially in adaptive mode which is way more "adaptive" as the regular G31. However it drinks a lot...

Springs need to be stiffer in order to control the extra weight and height too this would be more comfy cruising. I'd only get the X5 if you're too out of shape to slide into a low car or plan to do a bit of off roading

@@kordaxmint533 actually B5 is better, X5 does have more ground clearance but it has Higher centre of gravity and less aerodynamic, also B5 better for long rides B5 has better handling and suspension is softer meaning a less harsh ride, X5 has a truck ride, and B5 more stable than X5 because b5 is more aerodynamic, More room? Doubt it, they are exactly the same really, only that x5 is taller and B5 is narrower but B5 better for daily use as more narrow space can fit longer things, the Centre of gravity determines car rides making Wagons better, also nobody in their X5 is going off-roading neither putting things in the trunk besides groceries.

@@papa_pt X5 also heavy asf too, X5 is like 5200 lbs, B5 touring is 4600 lbs leaving B5 more efficient and more reliable, also X5 has aerodynamics of a rock while B5 touring has smooth aero, X5 needs more stiffness making ride Harsh and truck like, B5 touring is softer yet takes corners better and grips better than X5. wagons are simply more efficient and ride better

Yes. The B5 starts life as a 540i since there is no 550i Touring. They replace the engine with the (heavily modified) engine of a 550i Limousine. Alpina then does their magic to the rest of the car and voila…..the best car in the world hits the streets

You can still buy an ALPINA B5 GT (2023 version). BMW bought ALPINA because both knew that they cannot keep up once the full electric cars are out, so to prevent someone else buying ALPINA, BMW did to keep the name and intellectual property "in the family".

Hello, Alpina's are indeed very nice BMW'S. But what i still don't get or do not believe is that the interior leather would be non BMW, it just looks like the BMW individual leather which you can get on most of the series.

Dakota leather, the cheapest leather of BMW is to my knowledge not available when you configure an Alpina. The better Merino leather is standard but you can upgrade to Nappa leather but even to Lavalina leather which is definitely not available when you buy an ordinary BMW. Lavalina leather is exclusively reserved for Alpina and Rolls Royce. This is apparently the best leather in the automotive industry. I own one with a full Lavalina interior and I can confirm it is magnificent

A view from the Uk. So, a car salesman comes to you and says "these brakes have great 'Acoustic comfort', 3.40mins in, or "the brakes are not as 'quiet', 3.50mins in, what's your response going to be? I know what mine would be and most of it would be rude. Is this the first car this reviewer has reviewed? Let me help him out here. The engine is from a BMW M550i, an engine that can hit 608hp as it stands so i don't think Alpina has done anything to "Improve" the cooling system, that's just silly talk. The cooling of any ICE is vital to its efficient operation as a company as old as BMW well knows. So is talking about "forged pistons" and different turbos for a gain of 13hp is also hard to nonsense. This improvement in horsepower can be achieved purely by re-mapping. The more i watch this video the more i think this guy doesn't know his subject. He's another one that wants to masturbate over the car and get it on the autobahn asap to get that old feeling in his tiny tickle tackle. Boys and toys huh.

For a Alpine the interior colour is a huge let down. Red, tan, white leather all alpine options which would make it better. Plus an estate should always have a panoramic sunroof to brighten up the interior of the car.

The 550d (also estate version available) is more than enough with 400 hp and 800 Nm. If not a stage 2 or 3 will do also that job with 500-550 hp and would be cheaper not only considering acquisition but also the fuel consuption (more range).
